March Event and Intro Log

Golem On The Loose

The rain never stops. Water and mud track all over campus. Diligent cleaning golems stomp about, mopping and scrubbing and polishing and then going back to do it all over again, and again, and again...

One of them seems to have had it.

The renegade golem bursts into Kedrigan Hall -- interrupting classes and disrupting labwork to furiously seize students and scrub every last scrap of mud and dirt off of them. All the halls have been locked off with "Under Cleaning" signs, and anyone who enters them meets with the golem's wrath, as it violently plays a pre-recorded message about not interfering with groundskeeping and deploys a giant claw-like tool to grab the interloper and put them back on unforbidden ground. The professors, who are after all completely immune to the golem's attention by its very design, seem to think this is a good learning opportunity for students.

    Is it?

Horrible Spell Doom?

"Are you sure you're ready for the test on Advanced Gaseous Discovery?" one upperclassman asks the other.

"Of course I'm sure," the second says confidently. Whipping out a wand from a holster on her belt, she sweeps her wand through the air gracefully, pronouncing several Osmarian sigils as she draws them. Probably. "See, that's a blue cloud--"

Said blue cloud, which puffs into being as the last syllable left her lips, abruptly doubls in size. Then it doubles in size again. And again.

The upperclassmen, who have been in Diatu for several years and know exactly what this sort of thing means, don't hesitate. Not even stopping to share a glance between them, they run like crazy, leaving the growing cloud behind just as classes let out and students begin to enter the halls.
But... surely it doesn't have any weird and wacky side effects, right?

The Bala-inlota Parade (aka The Non-Horrible Prompt)

To celebrate the start of the Bala-inlota season, Anastara spares no expense. The great parade and associated festival stretches the whole weekend, and the whole city puts on their colors and turns out for the fun. Enterprising vendors sell food, drinks, and souvenirs ranging from small and crude figurines to magical constructs that shine field displays onto flat surfaces so you can watch the action up-close! (Good luck affording that, students.) Practically any sort of entertainment you could want appears on the streets and canals of Anastara, and food and drink flow freely.

Research On the Sundered

With the arrival of the Sundered come those wizards engaged in research on their presence here, now set to investigate what brought them here and how to get them home. All newly-arrived Sundered students are asked to meet with representatives of the research team, to introduce themselves and relate what they will of their homes. In addition, the team requests samples of blood, hair, and skin -- carefully magically collected, and the researchers will sign in the presence of the Sundered a Glyphed contract that forbids them from using the samples for a purpose they know will be harmful. (They quite understand your reasons to be suspicious of this collection! And they will not compel anyone who refuses even given these conditions.)

This month, the team has developed a Sundering spell that they warn is crude and unpolished, because the Curriculum is so unpracticed. They hope it will connect to your home worlds and establish a magical link they can build off of to open further passages. No promises! And to those who do undergo this spellwork... it has a certain side effect of confusion, as brief images from your home world flicker across your vision for a few hours afterwards.

Wonders Await

Diatu Magicademy is open to you in all its glory. Have fun!

A Special Note

If you thread out one or more scenes based on the confusion from "Research on the Sundered", respond to the comment on this post with a link to that thread. The results of this will be revealed next month! (It is, we're afraid, not a regain, lest your participation be based solely on that hope!)

New Student Exploration through Flying:

Skuld stretched her long white wings and flew up into the air. From the twisted corridors of the school's many buildings she could tell that the complex was a large one but from here she had a bird's eye view of the place. It was massive! Some of the palaces in Asgard weren't as large as this school.

She soared between the spires, walked across rooftops, and... may have on one or two occasions peeked into a window to get her bearings but she always made sure to smile and wave if some one noticed her. After all she was exploring not trying to frighten anyone.

Just Passing By:

Passing over the large courtyard she spotted who she thought might have been a fellow student and swooped in to land beside them in a flurry of white feathers.

"Hello! Were you sent to this world by Omnipotent Odin to learn magic too?"

Golem On The Loose:

"Hey! You can't do that!"

The young Valkyrie exclaimed as she charged forward to grab the Golem's arm and prevent them manhandling her fellow student... it wasn't very effective. Being so much larger and more made of stone than her Skuld ended up hanging upside down from the creature's massive bicep rather than successfully rescuing anyone.

"Why are you so upset anyway, because of the mud? Maybe we could help you clean it up?"

Wildcard:

(Whatever you'd like! Skuld's new and not opposed to meeting anyone.)

Golem On The Loose

[Did somebody say CHALLENGE ACCEPTED?

... They didn't? Well, too bad, she's doing it anyway. After all her adventures with Uncle Scrooge and the gang, Webby was fairly confident that she could take down one golem.

She was incorrect.

She's now dangling upside-down from one of their tools, being unceremoniously hauled off back to 'forbidden ground'.
]

... Don't suppose we can try for 2 out of 3?

Horrible Spell Doom

Sheesh, what's everyone freaking out about? Did someone let out a ferocious man-eating monster, and NOT tell me?

[Webby for the moment is oblivious to the spell's affect on her - which has temporarily turned all her white feathers blue.

Commence the "feeling blue"/Eiffel 65 jokes.
]

... What're you staring at?

The Bala-inlota Parade

[As someone who's been a forced shut-in for most of her life, junk food was a forbidden luxury for one Webbigail Vanderquack. As such, with this opportunity presenting itself, she is PIGGING OUT.

You can find her nestled in a corner surrounded by stacks of food. Or maybe you just heard that giant BURRRRP she unleashed.
]

Ooof... I don't think I could have another bite... Oooh, caramel!

[om nom nom.]

Research On the Sundered

[No surprise that Webby dove head-first into a new spell, especially for any chance to see home sweet home. But boy, they really weren't kidding about the confusion part.]

GRANNY! I MISSED YOU SO MUCH AND I LEARNED SO MUCH AND LENA'S ALIVE AND I HAVE A PET AND -

[Cue her running right into a gargoyle statue. She winds up flat on her back, eyes spinning.]

... Owww. Either Granny's gotten too muscular, or this spell didn't work.

golem on the loose

[The problem with being a Purifeul student on such a muddy campus is keeping one's white robes clean. Kaiba is tall enough that he doesn't risk things dragging on the ground, but he still has to tread carefully.

Unfortunately, today he hasn't tread carefully enough. The rampaging golem rounds on him next, and before he can draw a small defensive ward, he's violently manhandled and scrubbed like a dish being scoured after a meal heavy on melted cheese. He's now a very clean but very rumpled mess, hair sticking up every which way. And he's looking positively murderous.]

That monstrosity has to go. Let's put an end to this.

[And he's rolling up his sleeves, prepping a spell. This is probably a horrible idea.]

research on the sundered

[Those who were here last month may remember Kaiba's vehement opposition to this testing. He personally witnessed the side effects, and he was prepared to dismiss the researchers out of hand once more, but the word 'home' has a powerful effect on him. Home means Mokuba. And with how wayward he's felt lately, a glimpse might be worth the risk.

Despite his rational mind screaming that this is a horrible idea, he submits, and what follows leaves his head spinning. Oh, he sees Mokuba all right...but he's not sure if these images are from the past or present. Either way, he looks unhappy, and the thought infuriates him.

He hurries back to his dorm, or tries to, but every now and then he stops, gazing blankly in the distance. He really hates today.]

Horrible Spell Doom

Come on! Everybody out of here!

[If there's one thing Sunset knows, it's that you do not mess with unknown magic. She's pulling her vest up over her nose and mouth and running, looking back in surprise when she dares. The entire hallway behind her is lit up with neon glitter. What.

Unfortunately, she stops running and it catches her, leaving her feeling pretty lightheaded. Then she lifts her foot...and floats clear off the ground]

Well. That's new.

Bala-inlota Parade

[Now this is more like it! It's not a sport she would play herself, but it's fun enough to watch. And partying with everyone is really starting to make her feel better. She bounces over to the nearest person and holds out a hand in invitation.]

Well if this wasn't the single oddest thing he'd seen in his death, he was hard pressed to find an odder one. It was too zetta loud, but at least the food was good. And best of all, he found a nifty new bullhorn for a lot of Money ≤. Zetta Sweet!

Research

Yeah, he'd wander in, listen to their speil, and while he'd refuse to let them collect samples, he'd offer a deal. They can do the spell on him... if he could see the mathematical equations the spell was based on. There are a lot of things he would do for that kind of beauty.

He would stutter his way through building a junk pile after. Not one of his best works, but a good place to sit and watch the flickers. Though sometimes he thought he saw Yoshua and actually tried to shoot... with his bullhorn. Other times he thought he saw Players, and tried to send Noise to erase them... which mostly just confused his familiar.

Horrible Spell of Doom

[If there's one thing horror movies have taught her, it's that if people are running in one direction, you don't go in the direction they came from. So with a lot of "nope", she starts to hightail it out of there as well.

Golem On The Loose

[For the most part, Fluttershy has managed to avoid most of the mud on campus, thanks to Ballet letting her ride on her back to get from one place to another. Unfortunately, it did mean that Ballet herself picked up a lot of the dirt, which for a Land Whale, isn't that surprising.

As such, Ballet - and Fluttershy by association - is a prime target for the upset golem. Currently Fluttershy is riding on Ballet's back, gripping on to her dorsal fin as the land whale sped through the ground, with the golem in hot pursuit across the campus.

Help?]

The Bala-inlota Parade

[While Fluttershy usually did her best to avoid crowds, the parade looked like a lot of fun. There was so much to do, and to look at, and to eat, and to enjoy.

Though she mostly stays where there's less people, she can be seen around the city streets, finding all the different things that the festival had to offer.]

Exploration
Kamala wasn't exactly thrilled to have been taken from her home - from her whole reality, it seemed - but she couldn't deny that there was something exciting about the experience. A different world where she could learn magic was pretty cool. If only she still had her usual powers... Still, Kamala had every intention to treat this as a learning experience in every way. After all, it was a school.

And, just when she'd started at Coles Academic as a freshman, she knew the first step was to get a lay of the land. Things were mostly going well, and she'd even found the Ka dormitory. The classrooms proved more challenging, and it wasn't too long before she had to stop someone passing by and ask, "Hey, can you help me find something?"

Golem on the Loose
No powers. No back-up. No problem.

Kamala wasn't about to let this rouge Golem pester her new classmates, even if it was one of the cooler things she'd ever seen. She may not be a polymorph anymore, but she could still put up a fight. So Kamala unclasped the cloak she'd had upon arrival as she faced the creature.

"Cover the eyes!" That would be a good start. Except... The cloak, which had mostly obeyed her orders until now, didn't do anything.

No problem? ...Make that maybe problem.

Bala-inlota Parade
When the time came for something decidedly less stressful than Golem attacks, Kamala was enjoying herself. She couldn't afford anything besides a snack here and there, but that was okay. She was honestly more interested in the free entertainment happening on most every street corner. After watching one particularly impressive performer show off some magic, she turned to the nearest person with a grin.

"Isn't this cool?"

Horrible Spell Doom?
When Peridot left her Intimation class for the day only to walk right into a blue fog, she was less than amused... But it didn't seem like there was any harm being done. So she pressed through the cloud... And through the increasingly disorganized student population. It took her a good while to even notice the tears streaming down her face, particularly because she wasn't feeling sad.

"...What's happening?"

Bala-inlota Parade
Peridot's interest in parades was limited, though not quite as limited as her interest in food, drink, and other seemingly pointless items. The street entertainers, however, did interest her. Specifically, she was drawn to anyone performing music, watching them with keen interest. The thus far often stoic Gem could be seen - and heard - giddly cheering as each song ended.

Research on the Sundered
Peridot had helped the researchers before, and while the side effects had been pesky, they hadn't lasted and hadn't done any damage. Why should this time be any different?

She was pleased when the spells seemed not to have any side effect at all this time... At first. But then, as she roamed through the halls, she kept finding herself - seemingly not at the school? She was at the barn. Then on her old ship. Peridot slowed to a halt, with clarity, Ruby: imprisoned and curled up in misery.

"Oh."

She was standing right in the middle of the hallway, staring at - well, nothing. She was also quite likely going to be in someone's way.

Golem on the Loose
Louie had the misfortune of being in a Kedrigan Hall classroom when the golem snapped, and stepped out of a morning class into a locked off hallway. The creature made a quick grab for Louie, who only just managed to tumble out of the way.

"Aw, come on, it's too early for this!" he exclaimed, as his mind was racing. Uncle Scrooge had said he could see the details of a situation to solve problems. Just like his mom had. And in this case - a big monster with cleaning supplies and its attention split about fifteen different ways... Yes. He had an idea, and he grabbed the arm of the nearest student.

"I need you to distract it. I'm going for the bucket of soapy water."

Bala-inlota Parade
It seemed like as good a chance to make some money as any, except... Louie wasn't exactly a performer. He'd much prefer to be doing some marketing during this event, but he didn't have a product to market. Maybe, though, he could find a way...

On one Saturday during the celebration, Louie could be found urging folks to gather around and buy some of his wand polish - a special formula, odorless, leaving no residue, and guaranteed to boost your wand's magic abilities.

Yes, of course it was just water.

[ research on the sundered ]

[For better or worse, Sora has literally no hesitations about volunteering to be a lab rat. Any potential side effects or discomfort are, after all, small fees to pay if it means he gets a pathway home-- he doesn't even want to leave that desperately, but he'd be lying if he said he didn't sorely miss some of his friends. A connection is a connection, small as it may be, and he jumps at the potential to gain one.

He'd been hoping for... well, he's not really sure what he was hoping for. His dream eaters returning somehow? Getting back his Keyblade? A spontaneous phone call from Riku? What he gets instead is brief flashes of beings he can only just make out; black coated figures and heartless that slink in and out of his vision.

Needless to say, Sora's causing quite a commotion where he's at, twisting and turning about in a hallway and just sort of kicking and swinging his fists aimlessly every time a Dusk or Shadow flits across his line of sight. More than anything, he just seems to be frustrated with his inability to hit the visions.]

Ugh! Just hold still..!

[ the bala-inlota parade ]

[Unfamiliar as his surroundings may still be, Sora nonetheless feels right at home in the crowds of the parade-- all the noise and the food and the celebrations are right up his alley. He bounces from here to there with a nearly never-ending grin on his face, weaving in and out of the crowd with his arms absolutely full of as many figurines as he could get his hands on.

And, naturally, he has no reservations about chatting up the crowd, either. He sidles up alongside what appears to be another student as he picks his way through the festivities, elbowing them lightly to get their attention and beaming.]

Meanwhile, Yotsuyu stands before a group of cowering smaller children, glaring up at the golem itself, while holding one arm before the youngsters protectively. She has a fan in her other hand; that is pointed at the golem. It is growling about the mud the children have tracked in and is cleaning it furiously for now, but clearly it's only a matter of time before it turns its attention on them.]

Go. Escape through the windows if you must. I will hold it back!

[The Bala-Inlota Parade]

[The riotous crowd around her is practically designed to annoy Yotsuyu. She is frowning, being shoved from one place to another, and generally looking like she isn't having a very good time. She isn't. She had come down here to try to understand what all the fuss was about. It still isn't getting through to her, really. She does manage to get herself a cup of wine and back herself into a corner to watch all the chaos, but she mostly tries to keep to herself, a little frown on her face.

Research on the Sundered

Cliff understood how this sort of thing went. It wasn't as if magical research wasn't a common enough thing on his world--the Endless showing up and begging hair or something else from his entire family, so he could try and figure them out. Cliff figured it wouldn't stop until his sister Syrienna gave the guy a kid--though he sorely pitied the kid when that happened...

That probably just contributed to the researchers' spells when they cast it, though. He'd sorely hoped to see his family, that was true enough. What he hadn't hoped to see were things like--his twin sister making out with her boyfriend. Ew.

Which explains why he has his hands over his eyes, ineffectually, yelling "I CAN'T UNSEE IT!" as he leans against a wall. The psycho.

Horrible Spell Doom

Cliff has enough sense to realize, when the upperclassmen break and run AWAY from the cloud, that he ought to, as well. First things first, though, he cups his hands around his mouth and yells. "Rogue spell, everyone OUT of the building!" He's not sure how far it'll go, after all.

Altruism is a good thing, and all, but he gets a good lungful of that blue cloud and doubles over, coughing. A few moments and he's stumbling towards the nearest door and, blessedly, out, where he falls on his hands and knees to cough a bit more.

And, oddly enough, hiccup. Once. As he does, a small blue rabbit pops out of his mouth and falls to the ground, where it innocently noses about in the grass. Rounder rolls up to it, then around it for a moment, then his arms pop out, and he gestures at Cliff, angrily.

"Hey," Cliff objects. "It's not a familiar, I don't want to replace you, so cut that out!" He points a finger at the bunny, touching its nose briefly. "You're not a new familiar, right?"

"Ribbit," says the rabbit. Oh, that can't be good...

[ A Potential for Golems ]

[Mizael has not actually run into a golem yet (which is probably lucky for them), but he's almost certainly going to. Standing out in the rain until he's soaked is going to result in a whole lot of water dripping onto the floor later, after all.

Not that he really cares. Rain (and water in general, really) that's only cold and doesn't burn is a novelty that hasn't quite worn off yet--despite this seeming to be the only weather this world has--and he couldn't care less how wet he gets in experiencing it. That's something of a novelty too, after all.

Still, it is also cold, and it's almost uncomfortably so. It might be about time to get back under cover soon...
]

[ Research on the Sundered ]

[This seems suspicious as hell...but if it means making some progress toward finding a way back home...

(which really shouldn't be nearly as difficult as these humans are making it out to be, but it is a new world with new magic and new rules, which is why he spends almost the entire time asking questions about what exactly they're doing and how this magic is supposed to work)...

He doesn't regret helping, not exactly, but after the third time his surroundings flicker into a red and pink crystalline world in which he is utterly alone, he practically snarls and throws his fist at the nearest wall--and nearly through it.
]

You coward--stop playing these games and come out and face me!

[Who he's talking to at this point--Vector, Don Thousand, those idiotic humans and their complicated magic--he doesn't really know, but it doesn't really matter either in the face of the stack reminder of everything he's lost in the last few days.]

Research On the Sundered (Open; Just looking to thread for this one prompt!)

In light of recent golem rampages, the labs beneath Kedrigan Hall are quiet, many empty as students seek out safer refuges for their studies. But what is a curse for some is a blessing for others. A Valhudor-uniformed student sneaks around the chaos in the upper hall to descend to the lower level labs - with a sigh of relief.

Still a little woozy from the experiment and subsequent flashbacks, Tenn nonetheless pushes through to find a suitably large and acoustically favorable (and also very clean) lab. It's not a box in the Music Room. But a cubicle isn't what he wants today.

He isn’t waiting long until another vision assails him. This time he’s ready, braced against the wall and closing his eyes. Holding the image of familiar city streets in mind, Tenn begins to sing. Softly at first, getting the melody precise. Then stronger as he draws from his inner well of power and commands the music, applying Fantastics to call up illusions around him. The smoke-like mirages waver a moment, as though seen through water, before coalescing into a world of busy modern streets that fill the room: vehicles rushing by in shadows, highlights tracing the buildings, disrupted white lines of crosswalks and a haze of people walking the streets.

But it’s still just an illusion made real outside of his mind. If he could only improve the connection to his home… more magic, more willpower.

Past closed doors, his insistent singing echoes in the abandoned hallways.

[Golem on the Loose]
[So. Finding himself somewhere new, and magical at that, had been a surprise. He had been adapting well enough, one could suppose, though finding a way for him to... er, sustain himself had been an interesting conversation. But he was here, in magical school now one supposed, might as well go along with it.

At least until a golem burst into his classroom. He was one of the unfortunate students hauled up by the ankles and dragged back outside, past a restricted hallway he'd clearly gone through to get to class in the first place (even though it hadn't been closed until five minutes ago but, DETAILS), and then dumped down to be cleaned.

One of the students with him, perhaps? A passing witness to the spectacle? Or someone that could find entertainment in a vampire Perfectly Normal Student trying to get away before being rigorously cleaned like a dog that'd gotten into the garden patch? Either way, HELP.]

[Bala-inlota Parade]
[All the activity was certainly something else to see. The excitement was contagious, and with a bit of antsiness born of wanting to wander, he got out in the crowds to explore, carefully keeping his cloak's hood tucked over his head of course. The trinkets get a few curious glances, and doubly so the projection constructs, but he doesn't really buy anything. Just spends his time taking in the sights and the world at large.

One may find him browsing a stand or off to one side, peoplewatching. And there's at least once where he's found a bench off by himself, cloak down even tighter around him, bent over as if tired. Must be a few too many people.]

[Wonders Await/Wildcard]
[The parade weekend proved, if nothing else, there was a LOT to see. If not during the whole golem event, you can also find him going to classes, hanging out in the common area of Gekronus Maius, or in the library. At times he'll be alone, or others he'll have his familiar- a bat, because magic thinks it's funny -hanging off a somewhat unusual backpack.

Here is also the part where something specific can be plotted, either by PM or [plurk.com profile] zumidotexe~]

The Bala-inlota Parade

In a sharp contrast to the festivities, there's a grim-faced Aesir with her arms crossed tightly against her chest grousing about how juvenile this all is. There was something familiar about it though.... this parade and merriment reminded her of many of the festivals that would have been celebrated in her own world, some of which would span all the realms like the harvest festival, or some that were more localized like the coming of the new year which different countries observed at various times during the year.

As a vendor tried to shove a figurine in her face, her lips twisted into a frown as she waved him off. Then she proceeded onward, catching sight of the food stalls almost lamenting the fact that there wasn't a certain blond-haired valkyrie frequenting them and stuffing her face.

What good was going to a celebration by yourself...?

Research on the Sundered

Even though Hel was vehemently against experimentations on either herself or the other sundered she was making it a point to be present in the waiting area when the bulk of the research was being undertaken. Whether it was out of some vain hope that she might be able to help mitigate the damage the guinea pigs endured or whether she was here to try and glean knowledge about their situation from the practices herself it was hard to say.

When some of the students leaving the examination rooms started talking a bit deliriously about their homes it piqued her interest. Apparently, today's experiment was a little less random than before. They were actively trying to establish a link to the other worlds...?

Still, dubious- but growing incresingly more desperate to return home she debated going against her better judgement. With a feeling of apprehension mixed with resentment for the examiners she finally conceded and went into one of the rooms. "I hope you know- that if any harm befalls me, I will seek you out as soon as I am able and it won't be a pleasant experience for you." She warned them. After the spell the scenes around her became contorted and difficult to decipher. The visions were so strong that she thought for a while she really had returned.

Unfortunately for everyone else, she was reliving the moments before she had begun her journey to halt Ragnarok, when she believed the humans to have caused chaos in her kingdom. So whenever she saw a human now, with her ire reignited she set upon them to attack. "Hellfire blaze!" Hel shouted motioning to the nearest student. On a positive note, she was still trying to use her powers from home, so nothing was really happening other than the spread of further confusion. "You humans have really got some nerve thinking you can destroy Helheim.... I won't forgive you."

❆ golem on the loose; the claw decides who will stay and who will go

[Much as Lys would be loathe to admit it, this isn't the first time an otherwise ordinary day has unraveled completely and without warning thanks to forces outside her control, overwriting everything that came before; the discovery of strange new powers, dangerous and unasked for, was honestly the most familiar thing of all. But even finding herself in another (universe?) world entirely could be coped with after a fashion, so long as she didn't think too hard about any of it. Better to keep the uncomfortable details in the middle distance and focus on the day-to-day, what could be faced and dealt with instead of what could not.

It's having to play at being a student that's been the real struggle. Lys can remember lessons taught at her older brother's knee, a shared and battered abacus, secondhand primers meant for children. "Real" school was a thing of trade towns and cities, the domain of those who could afford it — and deserved it. Despite falling into neither category, here she was at a full-fledged academy, expected to train and study and, god forbid, crack open a book or two.

...Still. She's resolved to do her best while she's here, and at the bare minimum that meant going to class. Sidestepping an angry golem wasn't part of the original plan, but Lys is adaptable.]

Look, I know you've got a job to do — and I really don't mean to make it any harder for you! But my next class is down this hall, so if we could just....talk this over....!

[So said while furiously dodging the golem and their tool of choice as they block the way, alternating between jumping back out of reach and seeking any opening that might fit a 6'2 beanpole still damp and slightly sudsy from a prior scrubbing. Eventually she musters up the nerve and momentum to dive through the golem's legs, wriggling valiantly toward freedom and into a scrambling crouch......only for the claw to seize tight around her ankle. As she's dragged backward down the hall, Lys grabs the nearest doorjamb and clings tight, hanging on with desperate (and abnormal) strength.]

C'mon, I'm gonna be late!

❆ research on the sundered; they blinded me with science

Samples, huh?

[Lys listens attentively to the researchers' spiel, nodding in all the right places, and at first seems perfectly willing to comply with their request; talking about her home and world could be done truthfully enough without compromising guild secrets. The mention of blood samples, though.....that noticeably gives her pause, shoulders hunching in unconscious reflex. A small amount wouldn't do any harm even should the worst occur, but just how much would they ask for? What sort of research would require it?]

Hair and skin should be fine, but I'm not too sure about the rest. I mean.....blood can carry diseases and stuff, you know? Even if you're gonna use magic instead of needles to collect it, accidents can still happen. I'd hate for any of you to get sick.

[....

In the end, it's the promise that the samples won't be knowingly misused that wins out over her misgivings, even more than the faint chance of forging a new path home. When the side-effects of the spell inevitably hit, Lys simply grits her teeth and covers her face in her hands, patiently waiting for the cascade of visions to run their course. Snow and blood, fire and smoke, fangs bared in a vicious snarl—]

Ugh....and this is supposed to happen to everyone? I guess it can't be helped, but.....geez.

❆ wonders await; crybaby werewolf has arrived

["A deep and dangerous well of potential." The same words could paint an accurate picture of werewolves, if Lys was honest. Not that she's planning to be, not in that particular way, but the observation rings no less true for all that it's privately held. Power was power no matter the shape, and so she's found somewhere relatively quiet (or at least away from the general chaos) to practice the stuff of her first few lessons, determined to gain an edge of control over the magic of this world — magic that would explode outward and hurt others if left unchecked.

And also kill her in a suitably violent and dramatic fashion, but that's not what's important here.]

Okay, let's give this a try. Something simple....a bit of chain, maybe? Nothing wrong with starting small. [Thank god for the nonjudgmental presence of Arthur Worthington the capybara, sitting patiently off to the side as his master talks herself into showing some initiative and not minding that it makes her look like a crazy person.] A nice fire might be more practical, given the weather lately, but that sounds a little scary.

[A nervous exhale, then Lys slowly begins to trace sigils in the air with the feather she's acquired for this very purpose, pronouncing each syllable of the Osmarius language with the hesitant deliberation of a novice. Thankfully, sheer willpower seems to make up for the lack of finesse; a short length of copper chain materializes when the incantation ends, much to her obvious surprise.]

Huh, it worked! [A beat.] Maybe next time I can try for silver.

❆ wonders await 2; electric boogaloos

[Wildcard options all the way down; toss whatever ideas you've got for a thread here, or shoot a PP (sentinelbeach) or PM at me if you'd like to discuss specifics!]

Golem

"Unhand him, you fiend!" Atem's authoritative voice rang out as he tried to redirect the rogue golems attention away from one of the other students and draw it's focus instead to him. Without any provocation the Golem had burst into the room and set to capturing students one by one and giving them a rough scrubbing against their wishes. Mud or no mud this kind of behavior was deplorable, so clearly Atem needed to stand firmly against it.

If anyone was wondering why someone of his small stature felt as if he could talk so brazenly to a monster of this magnitude, well... he had commanded a soldier of stone or two back in his own world. It was a pity he could not call upon such creatures now as they would have given him a decided advantage.

The Golem seemed unmoved at first, but then it discarded the other student and lumbered toward Atem. Unfortunately this beast was tons above the weight limit that Atem's familiar could hoist so he was going to have to deal with it on his own. "What has brought about this madness..?" The golem didn't answer, reaching out to try and seize the pharaoh, but Atem was expecting it and made sure to put some furniture between him and the Golem. "Will you risk tearing apart your own work just to get to me..?" He remarked coyly trying to play on the Golem's weakness for cleanliness. "Stay back everyone.... I don't think it means any harm... but.." If you want to preserve some dignity you'll listen.

Research

Although Atem wasn't certain that he desired a swift trip home, he saw no reason not to assist in the process to return the others. He was still very divided on what path he should personally take, but there was no question that helping others was a worthwhile way to occupy his time in the interim. He receives the same warnings the examiners have been doling out to everyone else and perhaps he should be more leery about this, given the apprehension some of his colleagues felt toward this situation but he still he was a willing participant.

After the spell is cast, he's not entirely sure that it worked. At least not at first. It seems to baffle the examiner as well. "Well- we can't say that we didn't try.."

Leaving the room he heads to the great hall next, which is where the images assault his senses. For a moment he's not seeing the grand dining hall of the academy and inside he's surrounded by the extravagant trappings of his palace in Egypt. It's disorienting and it's so realistic that he for a moment thinks he's really there. It's not just things that he sees but people. Turning to one of the sundered he asked, "Shimon...? Is that really...?" then the vision fades, and he presses a hand to the side of his face as he gazes upon the bewilderment present on the fellow sundered's feature. "I'm.... sorry. I... I lost my head there for a moment...". Well that was disconcerting. It was a wonder how long these lapses would last. Perhaps he should try to return to the dorm.

a. Golem on the Loose

"Ah- hey!"

Newly wet and muddy from his daily sparring session in the courtyard, Eleven moved back inside with a perfectly sensible list of priorities: a dry change of clothes, a trip to the cafeteria, then homework.

But the golem got to him first, snatching him up and forcing a towel to his dirty face, boots, and.. well, general everything. Naturally, Eleven struggled- and naturally, this resulted in a fiercer scrubbing.

"I was- going..!"

b. Bala-inlota Parade

It was the most fun he'd had since the MMA tournament. Eleven took a curious shine to everything- marveling at the lights, colors, and magic on display with childlike enthusiasm. Everything was so bright and magical that destiny, lost powers, and every other one of his pressing worries vanished.

Instead, he worried about the pocket change he had and how much food he could afford to buy. He peered at the different stalls, attempting to weight value against the far less particular gnaw of his stomach.

"Hm.." Spotting a fellow student with something edible, he didn't hesitate to approach. "Oh, is that any good?"

c. Research on the Sundered

Eleven hesitated. Part of him wanted nothing more than to go home as quickly as possible, but with every day that passed by, that urge lessened. Having failed once already, he only grew more certain that he had so much more to learn before he could return.

"..No samples," he stipulated, finding himself unable to refuse entirely. "But you can test a few spells on me." After all, they only had temporary and harmless side-effects last time.

Braced for anything from green hair to extra appendages, Eleven instead found himself surprised (and relieved) to be completely unaffected. He breathed a sigh of relief even as the wizards themselves seemed a touch disappointed.

"That's okay," he tried to assure with a smile. "I think some of us would rather be here for awhile anyway."
