March Event and Intro Log
One of them seems to have had it. The renegade golem bursts into Kedrigan Hall -- interrupting classes and disrupting labwork to furiously seize students and scrub every last scrap of mud and dirt off of them. All the halls have been locked off with "Under Cleaning" signs, and anyone who enters them meets with the golem's wrath, as it violently plays a pre-recorded message about not interfering with groundskeeping and deploys a giant claw-like tool to grab the interloper and put them back on unforbidden ground. The professors, who are after all completely immune to the golem's attention by its very design, seem to think this is a good learning opportunity for students. Is it?
"Of course I'm sure," the second says confidently. Whipping out a wand from a holster on her belt, she sweeps her wand through the air gracefully, pronouncing several Osmarian sigils as she draws them. Probably. "See, that's a blue cloud--" Said blue cloud, which puffs into being as the last syllable left her lips, abruptly doubls in size. Then it doubles in size again. And again. The upperclassmen, who have been in Diatu for several years and know exactly what this sort of thing means, don't hesitate. Not even stopping to share a glance between them, they run like crazy, leaving the growing cloud behind just as classes let out and students begin to enter the halls. But... surely it doesn't have any weird and wacky side effects, right?
This month, the team has developed a Sundering spell that they warn is crude and unpolished, because the Curriculum is so unpracticed. They hope it will connect to your home worlds and establish a magical link they can build off of to open further passages. No promises! And to those who do undergo this spellwork... it has a certain side effect of confusion, as brief images from your home world flicker across your vision for a few hours afterwards.

- If you thread out one or more scenes based on the confusion from "Research on the Sundered", respond to the comment on this post with a link to that thread. The results of this will be revealed next month! (It is, we're afraid, not a regain, lest your participation be based solely on that hope!)

Yeah... this isn't how I imagined my day would go. [ he manages a laugh, but he's still kind of concerned about the side effects he's experiencing. ] I'm feeling better, but- it's hard to explain. [ since he's on the shorter side he might be struggling to keep up, but thankfully she's not going that fast. ]
It definitely would have been nicer to meet you under normal circumstances, but given where we are I'm not sure how possible that's going to be. Either way, it's still a pleasure. [ from the sound of his voice he can kind of guess what's happened to him, but he's going to try not to think about it, because it's weird enough as it is. ] I hope this doesn't happen often...

Perhaps I ought to have a word with Professor Trammel about this. I don't...think that was Thaumaturgy, we were on the proper floor...
[Yotsuyu shakes her head at that. It's for another time.] I suppose we could wait and see if this wears off by itself, and then if it does not, I suppose we should see a Modification instructor...I think.
[Discovery...might work there too, but Yotsuyu really wasn't certain how; one made better sense to her than the other. Besides, it was the signature magic of her House, right? Even if she wasn't about to attempt something so complex.]
no subject
I don't think so either. [ but he was still learning, so maybe it was some sort of advanced spell. ] The last time something like this happened the effects lasted about a day. [ and that's honestly kind of a long time to have to go through something like this. he won't really complain if that's the only way, but he won't exactly be thrilled about it either. ] It couldn't hurt to talk to them, especially if this is going to become a common occurrence. [ knowing how to reverse something like this could be invaluable. ]
no subject
[Yotsuyu rubs her chin at that, looking thoughtful. Then, she makes a face, lip curling in derision.]
Though I imagine that I'll have to make it taste better, most of them smell awful when we make them, and I cannot honestly imagine that they taste better than they smell.
no subject
[ yugi crinkles his nose, not looking forward to getting a taste of any alchemy potions. he could probably stand waiting the twenty four hours to see if this went away on its own depending on how foul it smelled. ] R- Really? Maybe waiting wouldn't be so bad. This isn't the worst thing that could have happened. [ nervous laughter. ]
no subject
[Actual puppies are also be safe, considering that there is no knowing if an alchemical potion is good for them. For all that she'd freely admit to it, Yotsuyu is trying very hard to put her days of actual evil behind her.]
Well, yes. If you would rather wait, of course that is up to you. You are the one enduring it, after all. Still, I will probably see if I can find antidotes for this sort of thing for the future. [Here, Yotsuyu sighs.] I cannot imagine there will not be a repeat, or something similar, someday.
no subject
I wouldn't mind helping you find one, because, yeah, I kind of get the feeling we're going to encounter a lot of these kinds of scenarios. I think it's inevitable in a magical school.
no subject
[Helping anyone else is mostly incidental, true, but if she came up with an antidote, Yotsuyu would not end up being stingy with it.]
And I agree, it is probably only a matter of time...
no subject
So where did you want to start?
no subject
[Yotsuyu may be reaching, here, but it at least makes sense to her.]
Have you any ideas?

[That said, though, she heads to the laboratory area of the campus, beckoning to Yugi to follow. To her dismay, the instructor is not in, but that doesn't stop Yotsuyu from perusing the books lining one wall, and selecting a thick volume with a yellowing ribbon threading along its spine; a bookmark not in use. Considering its title is Magickal Remedies, she's hoping her theories are good.]
You may help. I shall get you a mortar and pestle, and if there are any ingredients that need to be crushed or blended together, that should suffice to do so, to start. But first, time to find a recipe, I think.
[She settles the book on the nearest counter, opening it carefully. Thankfully, its dust is minimal, and more from age than disuse. She leans over it and begins to run a finger down the index, silently thanking the Twelve that she can understand it.]
no subject
[ he follows her to the laboratory, taking a moment to look around while she goes to grab a book off the shelf. maybe he could pick up alchemy too. he did want to learn just about everything he could, but he was trying not to spread himself too thin, especially since he'd only just gotten here. ] I think I can do that. [ he nods, moving over to the book and skimming over what's on the page. ]
Should we look for something for my particular problem or just something for general disaster reversal?
no subject
And then if it does not, that is when we try something more specialized. But do you really want to be a test subject for this? I had thought that we were being prepared for next time, and you were going to suffer through for now.
[Really, Yotsuyu doesn't begrudge him trying anything if he wants to, but his reluctance of before doesn't have her trying to cram any potion they brew down his throat, even if it's not brewing yet.]
Here, I know you are not an alchemist, but this looks promising. [She slides the book over, open and bookmarked to a potion called 'For Reversing Milde Magick'] I worry about the archaic spelling, but it was a student spell that was cast, and I also worry about bringing to bear something too powerful, without need.
no subject
[ he reads over the page and gives a nod. ] Well, we can certainly try it and then see if there's anything more powerful if it doesn't work. But Mild Magic seems like it could be right up our alley. [ though he's not sure his own transformation is considered mild. either way, count him in. ] Let's do it. So we need to collect the ingredients, right? Everything should be here, right?
no subject
Let me see. Gum arabic, nettle, peppermint and lavender--well, that's fairly normal to start, and thank the Twelve, peppermint will make it taste all right, I hope...none of this needs the mortar yet, the arabic's a powder...
[She reads further, and makes a face. Certainly she's used to some strangeness since beginning to study alchemy, but...]
Powdered newt brain and chimera scales...I can sort of see why that is, it's for transformation, but...ugh. And some ethanol and distilled water, boiled in a retort. Well, the whole mess should be.
[Yotsuyu measures out the appropriate number of dried brain and scales, and gives Yugi another look before handing him the mortar and pestle.] I hope you're sure. At least if it does taste disgusting, I know where the honey lozenges are.
no subject
I'm sure and, uh, m- maybe have them on stand by. [ he starts grinding down the ingredients that need it, making sure they're a fine powder before passing the small bowl over to her. ] H- Here goes nothing. [ more nervous laughter. ]
no subject
She really hopes this works. But as per his request, she does make sure the honey lozenges are nearby. She's not certain she could stomach it herself, if she had to.
Time passes, and after an excruciating period of waiting, well--something slightly viscous and unpleasant-looking has bubbled into the cup.]
There seems to be a mouthful, and the recipe said that should suffice...I'm not certain if it'll taste better if it cools, but we can wait until then if you like?
no subject
[ he looks to the lozenges and considers eating the entire bag following his drink. ] How much do I have to drink? Just a sip or... or a full cup... [ he takes the cup as soon as it's ready and stares it down for a couple of minutes. ] Gross. [ he nods at her and swirls the cup. ] A mouth. Ok, uhm, that shouldn't be too hard... [ or so he hopes. ] I don't think anything's going to make it taste better short of dumping those lozenges into it. [ a half hearted laugh as he sucks in a sharp breath. ]
Here goes nothing. [ he holds his nose and throws his head back to drink it all. he doubles over immediately and grabs his mouth. please don't throw up. please don't throw up. please don't throw up. he coughs a couple of times, but he manages to keep it down. ] I- I think I'm ok. [ a hesitant nod as he stands upright again and looks down at himself. ] Nothing so- [ a hiccup, his tone pitching a bit higher. ] Uhhhh. [ his face colors as his hair grows a bit longer and his bust grows a bit bigger. ] I- It's not working. It's making it worse!
no subject
What a fool she is.]
There's a page missing. There's a page missing! [That last is almost a scream, and it takes a supreme act of will for her to not just sweep the entire mess off the table. Calm. Making a bigger mess won't help anything.]
This won't work! I don't know what will! We'll have to talk to a teacher, I don't know...I tried. I'm so sorry...
no subject
[ he bites his lip. ] I'll just wait it out and maybe talk to my Professor later, but, uhmm, i- in the meantime do you think you could help me, uh... [ this is embarrassing, so he looks aside, flushing a dark shade of red. ] make my clothes fit better?
no subject
I will do my best...though it was not enough, a few moments ago.
[She frowns at that. But it does turn out that she has more talent in Modification than alchemy, as she draws a folded fan from her sleeve, and uses it as a focus, drawing geometric designs in specific areas, and whispering equations under her breath with great care. Maybe it's harder to mess up than alchemy. But it's also likely that Professor Kith makes sure her materials are flawless, too...]
How does that feel? Any better? I do not want to do too much, too fast, but there should be some relief...
no subject
You did do your best. It's not like either of us had expected the book to have been defaced.
[ he expels a breath when she makes his clothes that much bigger, a small smile lifting his lips. ] Definitely better. They were getting pretty uncomfortable, but the additional room is as much needed as it is appreciated. Thank you.
no subject
Do you need more alterations? And you are welcome, though I do not feel as if I much deserve your thanks.
[[Though he's certainly a kind young man, and she won't soon forget it.]
no subject
Maybe just a few more around the, uh, y- y'know. [ clears his throat and averts his gaze as he makes a vague motion over his chest. ] H- Here. [ his gaze snaps back when he says that. ] You do. The mishap wasn't your fault and I'm not going to let you blame yourself for it.
