February Event and Intro Log
Orientation Week/Magic Mayhem
The campus of Diatu Magicademy stretches out before you, confused and chaotic and surging with energy. Where are you headed? To your dorm or suite, to get settled? Maybe you need some food now? Wherever you head off to as your first stop, you have to deal with the snow. Helpful or proud students are passing out various magical remedies to get you where you need to be -- umbrellas with a nasty tendency to dump snow directly onto other people nearby, an iron tube that projects fire but appears to have no off switch, snowshoes that keep you slightly too high off the snow and thus provide no friction for stopping...
Familiar Follies
Familiars do not harass or harm each other as a rule -- but that doesn't mean they have no pecking order, and the week of Orientation finds them all jockeying for status and position as suits them. This can take the form of pranks, displays, competitions, or simple physical assertiveness towards each other. The goal is simply to be seen as superior by the student body. New wizards especially may find themselves surprised at this behavior of their familiars...
Research On the Sundered
With the arrival of the Sundered come those wizards engaged in research on their presence here, now set to investigate what brought them here and how to get them home. All Sundered students are asked to meet with representatives of the research team, to introduce themselves and relate what they will of their homes. In addition, the team requests samples of blood, hair, and skin -- carefully magically collected, and the researchers will sign in the presence of the Sundered a Glyphed contract that forbids them from using the samples for a purpose they know will be harmful. (They quite understand your reasons to be suspicious of this collection! And they will not compel anyone who refuses even given these conditions.)
Furthermore, they request to perform a few spells on you for testing purposes. It is, quite regrettably, possible that if you consent to this testing, you will come away with a temporary side effect -- a slight change of hair color, traveling two steps for every one you take, one hand moving about a second behind the arm it should be attached to, or being ridden by a penguin. No need to worry, these changes won't last more than a day!
Wonders Await
Diatu Magicademy is open to you in all its glory. Have fun! |
Webby Vanderquack | Ducktales 2017
[So, she belongs to Ka, eh? She has no issues with this! A forbidden, lost art suits her perfectly. She's headed to the dorms to check over everything, only to find out that she doesn't live in the Spirals like all the other students. She and the other Ka live in Makerion Keep, a haunted former fortress.
CAN THIS DAY GET ANY BETTER?!
She's swinging from the rafters, calling out and not noticing her fellow students just yet.]
C'mon, come out already! I promise you can haunt me and I won't mind! I live with a ghost back home! ... I mean, kind of, he doesn't "live" with us, he's dead. You get the idea.
Oreintation Week - Locked to Lena
[With 'home' settled, it's time to explore the rest of the grounds. Webby's so excited she wants to explore every single inch of every place. She giggles to herself, running around, and nothing could possibly distract her -
Except a very familiar shade of violet.
She stops in her tracks. Absolutely freezes. Did she see...?
Slowly - very slowly - she turns her head, not daring to hope, as she'd been hoping every night in the McDuck mansion. Her breath catches, and suddenly everything else is forgotten. Her voice, when she finally speaks, is uncharacteriascally quiet and shaky.]
... Le... Lena?
Familiar Follies
[Again, it's exploration time, but for a whole new reason. She's checking behind curtains, under tables, calling out...]
Jorry! Here, Jorry! Where did you go? Aw, if I lose my familiar on my first day, I bet I'm gunna get in so much trouble...
[She's only had her familiar for a handful of hours and has already fallen in love with it. Help her search?
... Also it's a snake. Also it might be slithering up your leg.]
Research On the Sundered
[So, here's the thing - when the wizards asked Webby to "relate what they will of their homes", she believed this required giving them the full details about one Scrooge McDuck. After all, he's a very important part of her world.
You, poor soul, see her get pushed out the door, at hour three of Scrooge-A-Thon.]
Hey! Wait! I didn't get to the part about Fort Duckberg and the Panama Canal!
[That's definitely a lock clicking on the other side. Webby bangs on the door a bit, indignant.]
I'll come back with a slideshow! ... A magic slide-show! And it'll have zombies!
Wildcard
[Make your own prompt!]
familiar follies.
No. Shhhh. [ she reaches out and clamps her fingers over his beak. at the moment her familiar's taken the form of a bird and he's perched himself on her shoulder to complain. or, rather, he'd intended to set up a joke about being nothing but
skin andbones, but she's not interested in hearing the punch line. ]I don't want to- eh? [ she stills, feeling something crawling up her leg and- ] SNAKE! [ saya kicks her leg and sends the poor snake flying... hopefully straight into webby's arms. ]
no subject
There you are, Jorry! You gave me a scare.
[Sssss. Jorry slides up her arm, and Webby bounces over to the girl, oblivious to the fact that it was violence that reunited her with her friend, not just good timing.]
Thanks for finding Jorry! I was looking everywhere for her!
no subject
Don't mention it. [ really. don't. it hadn't been intentional. ] 'tis nice to meet thou. [ he familiar chimes in, taking a sweeping bow with his wing. ] Yeah, [ saya jerks a thumb at the bony bird. ] what he said.
no subject
[She holds out her arms, allowing the snake to slither up, down, across.]
This is Jörmungandr! Jorry for short. And I'm Webby!

"While the appearance is clearly from a formerly unknown plane, the complaint sounds eerily familiar. Would I be correct in my hypothesis that you were attempting to answer some question and that the people here are at least as impatient as the people in my own plane of existence are?"
no subject
A little shrug. She has no idea why they would cut her off.
"Maybe if I compile it into something handier they'd have an easier time of it. Like a research textbook!"

"Is there any way I can help you? I know we're probably from different places, so I don't know much about yours and you don't know much about mine... but it never hurts to have an extra pair of hands!"
Although she did pause for thought and wondered if, with magic, you COULD get an extra pair of hands.

The bat, however, seems to notice Webby some distance away, and as soon as it lands it begins to chitter at her.]
...What?
no subject
Lena... Lena! LENA!
[With that, she SPRINTS - sorry to anyone who's in her way, they're getting shoved aside - saying Lena's name over and over again, hysterical, as her arms are outstretched.
You're getting tackled, Lena.]
LENAAAA!
no subject
...Webby?
[She turns towards the sound of the voice, just in time to catch the girl barreling towards her.
And having not expected the force of the tackle at all, she slips on the icy ground and sends them both tumbling.]
no subject
And Webby doesn't sob.]
Lena! Lena, you're... I thought she... Lena! Lena...

Familiar Follies
And a much larger snake who is, most likely, coming nose to nose with this intruder on its mistress. To most, the buzzing that ensues is just an annoying sort of noise--but it means more to the Witch of Doma. She brushes along one side of her kimono--used to seeing her own four-foot-long beast, another snake doesn't bother her, but she does decide to rescue Jorry and lift the snake in her hands.]
I imagine this is what you are looking for, youngling. [ And her familiar pokes his head out of her robes, black tongue flickering in the air. She glares down at it.] You know you are not to torment others' familiars. Especially if they are just being curious. Behave.
no subject
[Webby lifts her head - and then sprints over, arms outstretched, happy as all get out.]
You found Jorry! Thanks so much!
[Jorry huffs a bit before slinking into Webby's open hands, not grateful for the rescue.]
I was going to tear this place apart, but now I don't have to!
no subject
You named yours? [To judge by her expression, Yotsuyu finds this a rather curious practice, but she glances at the blue racer who even now is distending her kimono sleeve. For a familiar, it's a big snake, but it seems docile enough for the moment.]
Is that a common practice, where you come from?
no subject
[Jorry coils around Webby's neck, resting her head on the shoulder.]
The full name is Jörmungandr... I named her after the legendary world serpent from Norse mythology. Jorry for short.
And I'm Webby!

Research
[Of course Orisa is surprised. It is not often one has a small anthropomorphic waterfowl deposited almost at one's front feet as one is leaving their own session. The massive war robot takes a hopping step back, surprisingly light on her four feet, then leans down slightly as her quad eyeshields narrow to focus her attention on the duck.]
[This might be intimidating, right up until she speaks in a cheerful and friendly tone.] Hello! You must also be a Sundered!
no subject
Yeah, I -
[Record needle scratch in brain. WHAT IS SHE LOOKING AT.]
.... HI ARE YOU A GIANT ROBOT WITH A PERSON INSIDE?
no subject
no subject
Hi, I'm Webby!
[With introductions out of the way, Webby begins running all over, poking and prodding and inspecting Orisa because HOW COOL IS THIS]
How were you modified? For what purpose? Are there lots of you? Will you get to learn magic too?

You were telling them about Uncle Scrooge things?
[He does pay attention - sometimes - he just doesn't like to act like it.]
no subject
Of course I was, how can you understand our world without -
[Wait.
She turns her head.
Blink.]
... LOUIE!
[Have a tackle-hug, not bro! She missed you something fierce.]
You made it here too! This is great!
no subject
[He can't help a light chuckle as - after regaining his footing - he returns the hug.]
Hey, Webs. [His voice is warm; he missed her, too, and he's reluctant to step away from the hug, even if it's just a bit.] I bet you're excited about this magic school stuff, right?
