February Event and Intro Log
Orientation Week/Magic Mayhem
The campus of Diatu Magicademy stretches out before you, confused and chaotic and surging with energy. Where are you headed? To your dorm or suite, to get settled? Maybe you need some food now? Wherever you head off to as your first stop, you have to deal with the snow. Helpful or proud students are passing out various magical remedies to get you where you need to be -- umbrellas with a nasty tendency to dump snow directly onto other people nearby, an iron tube that projects fire but appears to have no off switch, snowshoes that keep you slightly too high off the snow and thus provide no friction for stopping...
Familiar Follies
Familiars do not harass or harm each other as a rule -- but that doesn't mean they have no pecking order, and the week of Orientation finds them all jockeying for status and position as suits them. This can take the form of pranks, displays, competitions, or simple physical assertiveness towards each other. The goal is simply to be seen as superior by the student body. New wizards especially may find themselves surprised at this behavior of their familiars...
Research On the Sundered
With the arrival of the Sundered come those wizards engaged in research on their presence here, now set to investigate what brought them here and how to get them home. All Sundered students are asked to meet with representatives of the research team, to introduce themselves and relate what they will of their homes. In addition, the team requests samples of blood, hair, and skin -- carefully magically collected, and the researchers will sign in the presence of the Sundered a Glyphed contract that forbids them from using the samples for a purpose they know will be harmful. (They quite understand your reasons to be suspicious of this collection! And they will not compel anyone who refuses even given these conditions.)
Furthermore, they request to perform a few spells on you for testing purposes. It is, quite regrettably, possible that if you consent to this testing, you will come away with a temporary side effect -- a slight change of hair color, traveling two steps for every one you take, one hand moving about a second behind the arm it should be attached to, or being ridden by a penguin. No need to worry, these changes won't last more than a day!

The sob is finally what cuts through her, though, and despite the torrent of emotions she's feeling, she focuses on the fact that Webby is actually crying. She's crying, and all because of her. That though is enough for her to push aside everything else as she carefully sits up - a feat that's more difficult than usual with how tightly Webby was holding on to her.]
...H-Hey...Webby, it's...it's okay...
[It's definitely not okay, and as she awkwardly hugs her, she can't help feeling that it's wrong, because does she even really deserve to? To hug her, or to be the reason for all these tears?
But Webby is sad, and it's her fault, and she's not the best at being comforting but she's trying anyway.]

She looks up, and a weak laugh escapes.]
... Hi.
... It's nice to see you again.
no subject
...H-Hey.
It's, uh...nice to see you too.
[Because it is, it really is...but after everything that's happened, she also can't help feeling a little scared.]
no subject
... I missed you so much. I... I was trying to find some way to bring you back...
no subject
...Webby...do you...Do you know what I did?
[She knows for sure that Scrooge definitely does, but she isn't sure if he told Webby about any of it. Because if he did, she couldn't figure out why Webby would even want her back in the first place.]

... When Magica's shadow things began taking over, we tried to find you. I thought maybe you could help us out. We went to your hide-out... and... I found your book.
[What a way to find out one of your first friend and crush is a shadow - through gorgeous poetry.]
... We put the pieces together... and... Uncle Scrooge told me the rest once we finally got rid of her.
[She swallows hard, not wanting to cry again. Lena had been suffering all this time, and Webby was just... oblivious. If she had tried a little harder... asked more questions... could she have helped Lena? Save her?
What kind of friend was she, that she couldn't help the person who meant so much to her?]
no subject
...Webby, I -
[What could she even say? "I didn't mean to"? But she had meant to. "Magica was controlling me"? She hadn't been at first, not completely. "I didn't want to hurt you"? She hadn't cared at first, so focused on getting her freedom that using Webby hadn't meant anything...that it wasn't supposed to mean anything.
"Please forgive me"?
...She doesn't deserve it.]
...I'm sorry.
no subject
[For not being there when you needed me. For not seeing that you were trapped. For not stopping Magica from...
A hard swallow - but then she lifts her head, sadness being replaced with sheer determination.]
But... now we can... try again! She's not here, and you ARE!
[She doesn't say "I forgive you" - only because she assumes it's implied. Of course she's forgiven. Why wouldn't she be? Lena sacrificed herself to save Webby - there was no bigger way to prove her real feelings and loyalty than that.]
We can start over! We can really learn about each other - we can really be with each other! This is a new chapter!
[With growing excitement, she takes Lena's hand with both of hers.]
We can be best friends all over again!
no subject
...You...You still want to be friends...?
[She couldn't fathom it. If Webby knew the truth about her, why would she still want to be her friend?]
no subject
[Beautiful idiot, same thing.
She breaks into a smile, holding Lena's hand to her heart.]
We'll always be friends, no matter what. Nothing and no one can change that.
no subject
[She doesn't get much more than that, unable to swallow the lump in her throat to say more. Her eyes start to burn, and try as she might to blink them back, she can't stop the tears that start streaming down her face.]
no subject
It's okay. It's okay now.
no subject
no subject
She's not sure how she can ever let her go again. There's a lingering fear that this is just a dream, and she'll wake up, and Lena will be...
She holds on a little tighter. No. Focus on the here and now.]
no subject
It's really only a few minutes, though, and eventually she manages to calm down enough that the sobs fade off into quiet sniffles. And soon she pulls back a bit from Webby, wiping her eyes with her sleeve.
Part of her feels slightly embarrassed - she has an image, after all - but the rest of her is too tired to care.]
...Thanks.
no subject
[She reaches over to stroke some of Lena's hair back into place. It's amazing how Lena remains beautiful even when disheveled and a sobbing wreck.]
... We've got some catching up to do, I guess.
no subject
Yeah...I guess so.
[Though she suspects it's less "catching up", and more "hearing what Webby's been up to since Magica zapped her out of existence".]
no subject
But... they are sitting in snow. Might be best to get a move on.
So she climbs off, and holds Lena's hand. She's more than happy to talk to the dorms as they chat.]
Where do I even begin? Gyro discovering tiny people living in the mansion, the harpies, the ghosts of Christmas, Glomgold's amnesia...
no subject
But she can't help frowning a bit as Webby lists the things that's happened to her.]
Wow, you've been through all that already?
no subject
[Months, even if you thought about it. Wasn't that how much time had passed since they last saw each other?]
no subject
Weeks? Has it been that long?
no subject
Well, yeah! It's...
[... Oh. If Lena didn't exist, then time must've... stopped for her. Was it only the power of this world that brought her back...?
She swallowed hard. Don't think about it. She smiles shakily.]
... It's been a while, but, time flies when you're trying to escape a man-eating plant!
no subject
And a glance from Webby tells her that she doesn't want to think about it right now either. So she files that away for another time
or never, that's an option too.]...yeah, I bet. How'd that happen anyway?
[It's always just easier to let Webby talk, anyway. It means less focus on her.]
no subject
[Hand-in-hand with Lena, she heads to the warm dorms, detailing each and every adventure since then - she doesn't know what to hold back, and so, doesn't, even the embarrassing and gross parts.
Everything will be okay now, right? Of course it will. They're friends again, and nothing will tear them apart.
Webby won't let it.]
