September Event Log
Of course, the potential for mayhem is pretty high in practice. Shrinking clothes, accidentally creating a scarf 250 feet long... Professor Trammel has loaned them his familiar, a top hat named Decorum, so it is on hand to quickly deploy wide black censor bars in the event a mishap leaves you perhaps offering more in the way of an Anatomy of the Sundered class than you might expect. But if you work hard and give it your all, you might come out of this looking good indeed!
The theory is simple: Suspend an Intimation effect within the ward's construction, then make the ward manifold-responsive -- or in other terms, capable of shifting its focus from one danger to another. The Intimation spell predicts the damage and preemptively shifts the ward to full effect. Simple! Enjoy testing them. Since it involves hurling some things at each other. What better way to test a ward than practically?
Now, mess up the Sundering spell and you could end up discharging a large volume of water or stone or pudding out of midair at a terribly inopportune time. But don't worry! Several groundskeeping golems are on-hand to help with the inevitable messes. Also Professor Trammel knows how to clean clothing. You might need that help.
"And it will be the third Metacurriculum! Wizardkind everywhere will develop and master these powers that I have paved the way for! AND THEY CALLED ME MAD!" she yells to the sky, before flinging her hands wide and laughing maniacally. So! You get to start very basic: Modifying a spell to last longer. Pick your favorite spell, any spell, and cast it. While its magical energies still exist in the pattern your will has imposed on them, Modify them. A simple equation. Add 1 to them. Multiply them by 2. Whatever works for you. You don't get much more instruction than that, says the Headmaster, because you have to figure out how to make it work for yourself. More than most magic, this depends entirely on your will and your determination. Everything else is just trappings -- take what you want from the foci of Modification, that will help, but find your own path forward. And unlike every other lesson, this one is utterly safe. At the first sign of a spell getting out of control or going haywire, Headmaster Birony squelches it like a bug beneath her heel. Not even literally, for a pleasant change! |

Classes! Because V is attending ALL OF THEM.
Normally V skipped a few classes here and there, because V had classes to TEACH and conflicting schedules were a thing. But for as long as these classes are available, V has posted notice that all classes V teaches are suspended, and has posted an assignment due the week after classes resume. It is a long and dull assignment, requiring the student to attend at least two of these special classes and to write a 40 thousand word paper on ways to combine these kinds of magic....
Making Modification Fantastic
V has no real interest in fashion, but a vested (pun intended) interest in cloth armor that actually helps armor class. Being a clothie with low hit dice and delicate elven constitution, it should surprise no one that this is V's focus. There might also be some interest in how to make plate mail armor be QUIET. For reasons of a dwarven nature.
Advanced Warding
This class on its own promised to be useful and not only was V going to learn everything possible about predictive wards V was also going to try to figure out how to use this to create better buffs.....
Also the creation of magical armor to give a plus against anything. Which could be useful for the Order Of The Stick...
Pocket Summoning
Yes please. All of this. Not only is V going to use this as a jumping off point for later research into how to get them all home, because apparently the team in charge of that is incompetent, but V is also going to combine this with the Modification combined class to research making bags of holding. Which could later be sold at a very high price.... Hammerspace for a fee....
METAMAGIC
Since this has ALWAYS been of interest to V, V will be attending this class attentive, filling up multiple notebooks of notes on how to combine this with the Metamagic feat V took levels back.....

Are there multiple NPCs here or did they just swap out? LOL.
You think she'd make poor Prof. Trammel deal with V alone? :D
LOL, fair enough. Was just muzzy headed and sick so wondering if I missed something.

Now this is a class Sunset can get behind. The garment she chooses to create is a sparkly flowing dress, though she wisely chooses not to wear it while she casts her magic. Unfortunately, the 'flow' spell seems to become a 'swallow' spell, and the billowing sparkly fabric is now attempting to engulf any nearby students. Something this beautiful deserves to be worn!
"Whoa...ah...down! Stop!"
She doesn't know a spell for this one. Whoops.
pocket portal
After that mishap, she decides to try something a little different. A subspace pocket is incredibly useful. She fills hers with reading material (she imagines Twilight would be jealous) and goes on her way.
Unfortunately, one bump into someone and she sways her wand, and out tumble the books. But these aren't just any regular books. The bright colors and cheerful characters on the covers indicate that they're comic books---and fortunately, comic books aren't heavy enough to hurt anyone.
She's really into fairy tales if some of these titles are any indication. Gumdrop Princess. Totally Trolls. Dragon King. Take your pick!

Fluttershy wasn't really as into fashion as Rarity was, but she did like wearing nice dresses and things. Plus it was just nice to have a spell for clothes, just in case.
Although the outfit that Fluttershy was currently working on seemed a bit too small. Luckily she wasn't the one wearing it, but it didn't look like it would fit her anyway.
Advanced Warding
In theory, the spell itself was relatively simple. In practice...maybe not so much. Still, Fluttershy tried her best, though she wasn't too thrilled with having things thrown at her.
She may be ducking a bit more than she is using her magic, in this case.
Pocket Summoning
Somehow, Fluttershy seemed to get the hang of this spell rather quickly. She seemed rather fond of creating bird seed or other food for animals, and storing it away to feed animals here and there when she could.
So it was no surprise that she soon had a gathering of many animals, all waiting to be fed. Not that she minded that, really.
Modifying a Spell
Headmaster Birony's class seemed liked the perfect thing for a spell that Fluttershy had learned of one day...or rather, discovered, though she wasn't entirely sure how. All she knew was that it could help her Pony Up again, and she was hoping to figure out how to get the hang of it so she could teach it to Sunset. But it was difficult getting the spell just right in order to use it. So finding a way to make the effects last longer would certainly help.
And she was certainly determined to get it to work...maybe a bit too much so.

While Lena isn't too into fashion, she would take any spell that meant not having to wear the school robes all the time. But her attempts to make some casual clothes had some...interesting effects.
Mainly, when Lena tried on the hooded sweatershirt she'd made, she suddenly wasn't there anymore.
"...Huh. So that happened," said a voice that came from seemingly nowhere.
Advanced Warding
This was a type of spell that Lena decided could be very useful, especially when it came to defending herself or others. The problem was trying to work it.
"Hey," Lena said to the nearest person. "Wanna practice this with me?"
Pocket Summoning
This was also a spell that could potentially be useful, though more for Lena's benefit than anything. She started simple at first, testing it with water as was suggested in class.
When she tried to open up the pocket dimension again, though....sorry about the wave of water.

Recognizing that magical defense was a weak area of his, even with his current work at integrating spellcasting into his attacks, Dust took particular note of the Warding class and put particular effort into it. Maybe too much; the shield that surrounded him occasionally shimmered and certainly distorted the air along the lines of its circumference. Even Dust himself could reach out and poke it, his finger denting against it.
"I'm... not sure I did this right."
Fashion Show
At last, a way to wear his sensible outfit without getting into the hassles of "why are you always wearing that" and "hey wear your House colors" and all that! Within a few minutes, he'd changed his clothing so that it appeared to be white and blue. It looked a little odd on him, given the color of his fur, but who was counting? This was a success!
Looking over the front of his outfit, he didn't notice at all that his cloak was growing quite rapidly, unrolling like a carpet to pile up on the ground.

The timing was perfect. Tenn had said he wanted a shielding spell on his bracelet, and this new technique would be a dramatic improvement over the general ward he already knew. He hadn't begun the forging process yet, so there was no need to start over. The use of Intimation was so highly inventive in combination with a spell he loved that just the concept of it fascinated him. Not to mention the practical applications, and how pleased Tenn would certainly be if he was able to forge it into his commission.
Needless to say, Eleven took to the lesson with enthusiasm, utterly determined to master it.
He began to chant a prayer, working to thread it through the secondary spell envisioned, then threw his arm high to follow in a sweeping gesture.
"Goddess Raida, prithee, ward thy humble servant from changing ills and bask in thine infinite wisdom."
The air rippled around him, and the warmth spread through his body let him know the spell had succeeded. He grinned at his fellow students.
"I have healing magic," he assured his partner. "But I don't have any reason to doubt that it will work. Use whatever spells or objects you'd like."
Metamagic
Madness aside, the lesson was an outstanding theory with widely useful applications he could understand. The only flaw in which was the fact that Eleven had almost no practice in Modification at all.
He conjured a simple warding spell to start, quite familiar with its duration already to have a rough estimate of how long it held up unimpeded.
"So I just.. try adding to the length of time?"

Now this was an idea he could get behind! Whip up a bunch of stuff and then dump it on the unsuspecting enemy team in bala-inlota? Don't have to give him an hour to think of a few nasty tricks he could pull with it.
Y'know. If he could master it first.
And if he could get his arm out of the pocket dimension he'd gotten it stuck in. Actually, the sight was pretty funny, what with his shoulder seeming to lead right into a black circle! Even Jecht was chuckling, though he was also pretty aggressively trying to yank his arm free. And having no luck.
Advanced Warding
"Hey!"
Yeah. Jecht's pointing at you, and smiling cockily while doing so.

"Excuse me!"
Orisa had a problem: fashion. Specifically, though her database included raw facts on fashion, her programming had no guidance on assembling those facts in a relevant way. It especially did not include specific notes for a modified OR-15 chassis.
"I need some help, if you would please? I do not know what I should make my outfit look like."
Advanced Warding
"Oh dear."
Orisa was on fire.
This didn't bother her quite as much as it might someone who wasn't covered in armor and inorganic to begin with, but Orisa wasn't exactly thrilled either. She turned in place quickly, trying and failing to reach over herself to extinguish the flames. "Does anyone possess a fire extinguisher? Preferably one rated to handle electrical fires!"

Looking good? Well, of course that was something Yotsuyu was invested in, even though she was in classes for both of these subjects already. She'd thought that this meant that she'd have no problems combining the two.
The truth was that she was making far more use of Decorum than she was completely comfortable with. How the mighty (or at least, the arrogant) have fallen!
Raise your hand if you're sure!
For her part, Yotsuyu has kept the original spell simple--Fantastics. Something to keep the chime of bells sounding around her person. Normally, it only lasts a few seconds, and is intended to keep another Fantastics effect going. That one, Yotsuyu has not decided, yet. She does not think it's a good idea to go too gung-ho on layering magics until she has the first two performed to her exacting standards, first. She keeps the bell bracelets with her and has the sound the way she desires it, and has used her fan to do the precise mathematics of Modification to prolong it by a factor of 4--Modification is her specialty, after all.
Though she still has her brow furrowed, deep in thought, to proceed with the final flourish. There are just so many options with Fantastics, after all, and while Valhudor students often prefer flash and drama, Yotsuyu has always loved her subtlety...

The Academy was always interesting and even more so now that the leaves were turning colors. He'd had to watch out for the trees that almost toasted him with flames, and really his hair was dark enough already so it didn't need help. The king had even plucked a leaf off of a tree and it turned into a dragonfly which had startled him quite a bit. So that never happened again.
Then there was the time Noctis was sitting trying to read and he got up and moved out of the way of a walking hulking tree so that he didn't get crunched. He'd already avoided the dropping huge leaves trees and it didn't seem to safe to be outside anymore. But he'd seen some kids playing in the leaves like it was no big deal.
So he shook his head and folded his arms over his chest.
"This place sure never seems to have a dull moment, does it?"
And I ran..(from a flock of eagulls)
The eagulls were just huge. He'd seen birds that resembled these in Galdin Quay and then there was that giant Zu that one time while trying to get stuff for Dino. Ya that hadn't been fun. So Noctis was really trying to get the hang of avoiding these things because he didn't want to kill them unless he had to.
He didn't refrain from using Warp Strike a time or two to chase them or get away from them though. Still, the birds were getting his attempt at recreating the Magic Flask for Elemancy mixed up with eggs he supposed. Noct would be working on finding out how to turn the spells he did know into elemental ones, now that he was working with Professor Drom. Now just to be able to do the things and avoid the birds.
"This was a lot easier back home."
Fire imps from metamagic
Noctis is at it again with the elements. This has to do with fire and using his sword, he's able to keep it burning longer than a few seconds. But then it seemed the fire turned into red implings on fire, so he knew he was doing it wrong.
He figured it was in the pronunciation, but the king couldn't seem to get the inflections correct. And while he was reviewing it, the implings began to dance so it wasn't out of control. He just had to go back and recast it.

Kaiba already has his jacket with subspace pockets, and he's happy with it too, but he'd like to bring his casual wardrobe a little more up to his personal standards. To that end, he's summoning belts and spikes, going for that tough black leather look he loves so much.
The end result? Try to get too close to him and you're likely to end up lashed by belts. He's already tied up in a mass of them, extending from his sleeves and boots.
"...I hate this school."
come float away
Kaiba's mood is much improved by the second class. He considers these spells essential to learn, so he's practicing with an all-out elemental fight. He's quickly shifting flames and fusing elements in his attacks, a little singed and soaked from previous battles, but he's getting better at it.
He smirks at his opponent...only for his not-quite-dispelled wards to suddenly react to a new threat, bouncing him up in the air. Practicing down the hall from the pocket summoning class was definitely a bad idea, because there's suddenly a flood of pudding gushing across the floor.
"Pudding. Of all things. Couldn't they have tried to go for something useful?" He's still bouncing uselessly in the air, by the way.

Noa is in So Many Classes
Making Modification Fantastic is naturally his first one attended; though he's a little more careful than his fellows, perhaps. Rather than work with clothing on himself, he's working with Adelai...who has apparently pulled out his own personal modelling dummy! Wow!
The idea is that if Noa can properly dress a penguin, he can probably dress himself. One problem however-
"Gh-! We aren't working to create the Best outfits, we're creating outfits that fit..!"
"AAAAAAUH!" Adelai was hoping for some fashion though!
Of course Advanced Warding goes its own way as well. Being in the Intimation class already, Noa is as eager to pay attention here as he was with the blended Fantastics. If he can learn to blend these forms of magic with other things after all then...well it should be easier to work it the way he's planning right?
Suspending intimation is a tricky matter, but testing it and testing it safely is...another thing altogether.
"Alright...we're going to try electricity, and then penguins..." Noa slowly looks up from the electric orb he has from the month prior, to the large emperor penguin giving a bellowing battle cry.
Hmm. Maybe he should have warded penguins first instead.
But Pocket Summoning will surely go better! ...It's...Discovery blended into Sundering of course, but surely he can keep himself from ruining-
"KYUUHH-!" "AAAAUUUUH!"
Well the penguins are enjoying the waterslide at least. Noa however, is Sopping Wet.
And there's still...
Birony's Class.
Listen he couldn't just go to every class but the Headmaster's! That would be rude. It seems like something that takes from modification, certainly, but he doesn't regularly take that one so this is going to be interesting indeed. The headmaster herself is already making it interesting.
But he'll...try?
"Hmmm...would fantastics require a scale change or a volume change I wonder..." No, Noa, that's not quite how it works.

Aaron was struggling, to say the least. For quite some time absolutely nothing happened. He would wave his hands about and do his thing and nothing would change. This continued for longer than it should have, but it did eventually come to an end as he made a shirt far too small for himself. After a few minutes of frustration, Aaron realized that the shirt seemed to be Purble sized, and the platypus seemed to eagerly wriggle its way into the shirt when Aaron offered it - so Purble at the very least got a new something or other out of this class, at least.
The singular Purble shirt was the only Purble clothes to be created, as his immediate next experiment turned his hoodie into a hoodie dress. Well, it was something. Much of his attempts would make things far too long and/or far too big. Aaron tended towards being patient, but it was becoming more and more clear that he was quite frustrated with his attempts at this.
Pocket Summoning
Aaron, ever the glutton for punishment, chose to attend this class. Mostly he felt it would be useful, but he also liked challenges. Mostly he just wanted to create the pocket dimension so he wouldn't have to carry things around in his arms anymore - he couldn't wear a backpack or anything like that because of his wings and he often grew tired of carrying his stuff.
Aaron figured that water would be the best way to test this out. Unsurprisingly, he dumped quite a bit of water on the floor, soaking not only himself but also a (now very happy) Purble. Purble splashed around in the water as Aaron took a seat and ran his hands through his hair. This has happened a few times now, and he thought for sure he'd get it this time.
Tree Watching
Aaron quickly made it a habit to perch himself outside somewhere between classes or when he was not studying. More often than not he had a cigarette in hand, but this was not always the case. His location would vary from day to day, hour to hour. He was staying closer to the ground because of the eagulls, but from the way he looked towards the upper levels of the grounds it was clear that he was interested in finding some spots far above the ground too.
Find Aaron as he watches one of the trees combust, or take special interest in a tree that decided to wander. Strike up a conversation and make bets on who will get knocked over by a giant leaf - he's a friendly guy and he's just amused by the wackiness of this season.
Probably Studying?
Aaron had a room in the Living Quarters and, today, he kept the door open as he studied. Well, "studied". Truth be told he was leaned over his desk with his head on his arms and hood up, asleep. He had a pen in his hand as if he had been writing, but this looked awfully like he'd planned on napping before he succumed to the sleep.

Isa wasn't really the sort who was into fashion, not really. He dressed mostly for comfort, and the sort of outfits Isa tended to think looked good... well, whether or not they did was up to personal preference, wasn't it?
The sweater Isa's working on seems pretty mundane and boring compared to what many of the other students are making... but that may also be why nothing seems to be going wrong yet...
Pocket Summoning
You'd think Isa's previous experience with summoning portals between dimensions and summoning weapons out of thin air would give him an advantage in this subject.
And you'd be wrong. Isa portals fizzle out before he can even have a chance to test them, it's clear he's misunderstood a fundamental step in summoning. Perhaps because it's so similar to what he's done before and he's unconsciously trying to do it the way he's used to...

If it involves clothing modifications, count him in. Kuja hasn't been overly fond of his house's colors, though they do hold a certain appeal, and he has avoided it for the most part where he can. The design of the thing, however, is a different story. There is a good bit he can do with designs and shapes and colors when given the right motivation - aka almost anything for his appearances - and this class has his interest.
Anyone wandering about will find him in attendance, taking note here and there of what is being laid out for them and how. Beware: he may have found a new love for these magics.
Profs. Loshakle & Mala: Advanced Warding
Never one to duck out on an opportunity to learn more about the defensive and the offensive, Kuja will be taking part in this class as well. If nothing else, it will give him a chance to practice his flight a little more, limiting himself as he sees his hair start to shift back to red again in doing so, and in making the wards at the same time. It might be tiring work, but the closer he gets to mastering it, the easier this will be on down the line when he
inevitablyneeds to use it.He might not be keen on becoming a target himself, but he has Ideas for those who want to approach him with intent for mutual learning and practice.
Pocket Summoning!
With one semester of both Discovery and Sundering under his proverbial belt and a personal interest in Sundering to boot, Kuja has decided he won't turn down the opportunity to further his learning in this field. He enjoyed it well enough in the first go around that he has decided to take the second class as offered, but this, he'll take as a bit of a challenge. Because he can. Why else?
