September Event Log
Of course, the potential for mayhem is pretty high in practice. Shrinking clothes, accidentally creating a scarf 250 feet long... Professor Trammel has loaned them his familiar, a top hat named Decorum, so it is on hand to quickly deploy wide black censor bars in the event a mishap leaves you perhaps offering more in the way of an Anatomy of the Sundered class than you might expect. But if you work hard and give it your all, you might come out of this looking good indeed!
The theory is simple: Suspend an Intimation effect within the ward's construction, then make the ward manifold-responsive -- or in other terms, capable of shifting its focus from one danger to another. The Intimation spell predicts the damage and preemptively shifts the ward to full effect. Simple! Enjoy testing them. Since it involves hurling some things at each other. What better way to test a ward than practically?
Now, mess up the Sundering spell and you could end up discharging a large volume of water or stone or pudding out of midair at a terribly inopportune time. But don't worry! Several groundskeeping golems are on-hand to help with the inevitable messes. Also Professor Trammel knows how to clean clothing. You might need that help.
"And it will be the third Metacurriculum! Wizardkind everywhere will develop and master these powers that I have paved the way for! AND THEY CALLED ME MAD!" she yells to the sky, before flinging her hands wide and laughing maniacally. So! You get to start very basic: Modifying a spell to last longer. Pick your favorite spell, any spell, and cast it. While its magical energies still exist in the pattern your will has imposed on them, Modify them. A simple equation. Add 1 to them. Multiply them by 2. Whatever works for you. You don't get much more instruction than that, says the Headmaster, because you have to figure out how to make it work for yourself. More than most magic, this depends entirely on your will and your determination. Everything else is just trappings -- take what you want from the foci of Modification, that will help, but find your own path forward. And unlike every other lesson, this one is utterly safe. At the first sign of a spell getting out of control or going haywire, Headmaster Birony squelches it like a bug beneath her heel. Not even literally, for a pleasant change! |

The portal on the stick side bared a couple of inches of bicep. On the other side... it did not, and the edge of it began to press into Jecht's skin as the portal angles.
"Uh, this is getting kinda tight."
no subject
She'd simply have to create another length and send it in on the other side, mayhap. It might let water out when she was done, but that, she didn't care about at all.
Soon, she's Discovered herself another stick and has set it along the other side of Jecht's arm, as if it is a makeshift splint. "Very well, we shall try this again, no?"

Jecht pulled back on his arm, planting his heels to get more force on it. The portal put up one hell of a fight as his bicep forced it further open, though!
no subject
She does not precisely want to stop--this thing needs to release Jecht, after all--but slowing the extraction process if it's painful? That is possible.
no subject
Which was enough to scoot the broadest part of his arm past the portal's boundaries. with an audible pop, the pressure let off all at once, sending Jecht tumbling backwards.

Yotsuyu does scramble to her feet, swearing quietly beneath her breath, and tried to get out of the drenching torrent.
"Well. I suppose that did work." But she looked like an angry, drenched cat, truth be told.

"I got my arm back at least..."

The sheer unexpectedness of it rolled over the ridiculousness of it all and caught him up in the wave. He began to laugh too, harder and harder until he was slamming one fist into the muddy ground next to them and trying not to thrash and take her out in doing so.
no subject
She still couldn't help but stifle a snicker, especially since he was practically rolling about in the mud like a hog, now. "You are a mess!"
no subject
no subject
No, she felt absolutely no remorse--not for landing on him (a prudent move on her part, she thought), and certainly not for laughing at his predicament. He'd gotten himself into it mostly, losing his arm in that portal. And she had helped him get it back!
"You could thank me, you know."

Jecht bent forward and rolled to his feet, the sort of move that came from a world-class athlete instead of a burly middle-aged goofball. He was both, after all, even if a lot of people forgot the former! (But rarely Yotsuyu, though, the way she attended practices.)
Then he spread his arms, mud dripping off to the ground below. "You're terrific! Lemme give you a big hug..."
no subject
Which, with another gesture, dumped unceremoniously upon him. She might get spattered, but at least it was only water, now, not laced with mud and lightly scented with sea salt and beach grass by her own design. May as well ensure he doesn't smell bad, after all this...

"Nice spell!"
no subject
"I am the one with the nice spells." Though there was a bit of arrogance there, Yotsuyu felt it was entirely deserved.

no subject
Yes, there was some smugness there as she explained it, but Yotsuyu doubted she could be called to task for that, either. She no longer wallowed in her pride, but a good spell was a good spell!

"I have no idea what you are talking about, in truth," Yotsuyu replied, with a shake of her head.

"I am sure it wouldn't take you an entire year to figure it out, if you did."
no subject
Sure made sense when you compared the two of them, didn't it?
