September Event Log
Of course, the potential for mayhem is pretty high in practice. Shrinking clothes, accidentally creating a scarf 250 feet long... Professor Trammel has loaned them his familiar, a top hat named Decorum, so it is on hand to quickly deploy wide black censor bars in the event a mishap leaves you perhaps offering more in the way of an Anatomy of the Sundered class than you might expect. But if you work hard and give it your all, you might come out of this looking good indeed!
The theory is simple: Suspend an Intimation effect within the ward's construction, then make the ward manifold-responsive -- or in other terms, capable of shifting its focus from one danger to another. The Intimation spell predicts the damage and preemptively shifts the ward to full effect. Simple! Enjoy testing them. Since it involves hurling some things at each other. What better way to test a ward than practically?
Now, mess up the Sundering spell and you could end up discharging a large volume of water or stone or pudding out of midair at a terribly inopportune time. But don't worry! Several groundskeeping golems are on-hand to help with the inevitable messes. Also Professor Trammel knows how to clean clothing. You might need that help.
"And it will be the third Metacurriculum! Wizardkind everywhere will develop and master these powers that I have paved the way for! AND THEY CALLED ME MAD!" she yells to the sky, before flinging her hands wide and laughing maniacally. So! You get to start very basic: Modifying a spell to last longer. Pick your favorite spell, any spell, and cast it. While its magical energies still exist in the pattern your will has imposed on them, Modify them. A simple equation. Add 1 to them. Multiply them by 2. Whatever works for you. You don't get much more instruction than that, says the Headmaster, because you have to figure out how to make it work for yourself. More than most magic, this depends entirely on your will and your determination. Everything else is just trappings -- take what you want from the foci of Modification, that will help, but find your own path forward. And unlike every other lesson, this one is utterly safe. At the first sign of a spell getting out of control or going haywire, Headmaster Birony squelches it like a bug beneath her heel. Not even literally, for a pleasant change! |

"That kind of sounds like me when school's in session. High school. The days are just one after the other...especially if there aren't any holidays to break it up. At least here at Diatu things are a bit more interesting!"
"I think it'd be a little weird if you could gift them to people! They're yours! At least you're not like 'well I can always hack them off and you can graft them on!' One of my mom's...acquaintances actually did that, way back when." Carolyn hadn't exactly made up with Alex, either. Ever. "So I should look up?"
Isabel grinned at that. "Nah, you don't look like a vampire. You lack fangs! I mean some of them can hide them, at least where I'm from, but plenty of them like to be all 'oooh look at my sharp teeth, I vant to thuck ur blot.' Laaaame."
She pursed her lips. "Yeah, Valhudor doesn't sound like it'd be a challenge to you. I bet that's why. Which is why I'm in it...though I guess most houses could have stuck me in there and I'd float. Except maybe Purifeul...I'm not that much of a Scientist." Back to chuckling in amusement, Isabel shook her head. "It's not really a cult-oddly enough, it is a Tradition--one of the ways of magic where I'm from. It could have been called a number of other things, that's just the one that stuck. Me, I'm an Akashic Brother...even though I'm not a brother." She laughed. "It's just that my Tradition's called the Akashic Brotherhood, so."
Isabel figured it wasn't a terrible secret here in Diatu, like it might be somewhere else. And Aaron seemed pretty okay, too.

"Oh! No, not like. Give you my wings, but just... Miracle wings to you, you know? Divine stuff and all that?" He made a nervous sound. "Not like some Saw shit." He started laughing again. It was really nice to be able to make pop culture references with Isabel - there were some jokes he'd like to make with Yotsuyu, but she wouldn't get them. "Normally I'm somewhere near the ground so that Yotsuyu may find me, but if you haven't seen me for a while, probably! Just... Not while these terrifying birds are on campus. They're. Hm. I'll return to the skies when they go away."
"I mean! They look like fangs!" He pulled his mouth open with his fingers and stuck his tongue out totally obnoxiously. Sure enough the canines and first premolars on both the top and bottom were quite sharp. They were a little elongated, but certainly not to the level that people would think 'oh god, vampire!'. He let his face go, chuckling. "I could do that accent, but I'll stick to my French I think."
He kinda relaxed a bit, slouching a little as he looked back over the grounds. "I'm sure you'd do fine even if you're not a scientist. I'm not that great at it, but I study a lot and I try to ask for help if I just don't get it." Aaron looked down and rubbed Purble's head. "Eiather isn't so difficult, but it's... The joke isn't lost on me, if it was meant as a joke." He was surprisingly somber as he said it, but he moved past it quickly as she explained about the Traditions.
He just looked confused, but good-natured about it. "You're saying a lot of words but I don't understand what they mean, especially not together. So far... I understand the word magic." He gave a solemn nod. His expression broke into a smile. "Nah, I get it. Another place with magic, like this but different. It sounds far more interesting than my own stuff." Powers of god and everything, you know.
