What: Lena asks the boys for help planning a birthday party for Webby. Because that can't go wrong

It was only mentioned for a brief moment, but learning that Webby's birthday was coming up meant that Lena had work to do. Unfortunately, while she had an idea of how people celebrated birthdays from what she picked up here and there, actually planning one was not familiar territory for her.

So at some point, each of the guys might find Nectormancer flying around before the bat familiar lands on or near them, holding a note for them. And the note carried a simple message:

Meet me at the library
Lena

She wouldn't be difficult to spot, either, and for all the world it looked like she was just reading.

Though she was also keeping an eye out for Webby, just in case.

Dewey was super stoked to get a note from Lena, to the point that he didn't even think about the possibility that maybe he wasn't the only one to get an invite. He beamed at Nectormancer.

"Alright, little guy! The moment has finally arrived! I! Am! Oficially! Friend material!"

CHRONOS, hovering at his shoulder, ticked a little louder, almost as if to warn him to be careful. When Dewey's enthusiasm failed to wane, the giant pocketwatch floated at his side, following him dutifully to the library. Depending on how close they were to 10:10 in the morning, they might be able to use his special ability as part of the party planning ... but for now, Dewey was just eager to get there.

"Hi, Lena," he called out, thoroughly forgetting where, exactly, she'd asked him to meet. A nanosecond later, it hit him, and he clapped his hands over his beak.

"Sorry. ... Hi Lena!"

Well, she at least knew who it was that arrived. Luckily the librarian didn’t seem anything more than a bit grumpy, but she continued on her business as Lena waved him down.

“Yo, Dew,” she said. “Glad you could make it.”

"Wouldn't miss it for the world." He grinned, making his way over to her. "But I gotta ask: why are we hanging in the library? I thought you'd be more the outdoor adventurey type."

She snickered. "Maybe. But the library is actually the perfect place to discuss top secret plans, because no one's suspicious when you whisper in a library."

Not only was he going to be hanging out with Lena, but they were going to be making top secret plans?!

"Okay," he whispered, "hold up just a second."

He put his hands behind his back and pinched himself on the wrist, just under his sleeve. Ouch. Yep, that hurt. Not dreaming: he was going to be making top secret plans with Lena.

"Alright, I'm ready! What are we planning? A treasure hunt? Exploring a network of secret passages? How to hold a rave with magic?"

She snickered a bit. "Y'know, two of those might be pretty useful for this. But actually, I'm trying to put together a birthday party for Webby."

"Only two? For Webby? I bet she'd love all three." He slid into a chair, getting into full party prep mode. "Do you have a theme yet?"

"She probably would. But I'm thinking of going with a 'normal birthday party' theme, since Webby didn't get the whole regular kid experience growing up."

"Oh! Then we're definitely gonna need party hats. And favors. And at least one game. And a great big cake!"

He gestured with his hands, indicating a cake at least half the size of the table.

"It's a good thing Mom's not here. She'd want to make it, and ... uh ... well ... her cakes look better than they taste."

"So," Louie began once he spotted Lena in the library, taking a seat beside her, "is this something good or bad? Because I'm really not in the mood for something bad."

As he spoke, he took a glance at the book she had open, wondering if that would give him a clue.

He wouldn't really get any clues from the book, since it looked like she'd just opened up to a random page in whatever textbook she had on hand.

"That depends," she replied as she looked at him. "How do you feel about birthdays?"

"Birthdays? Wait, you have a-"

Oh! Oh, no, he'd almost forgotten. "Webby's is coming up, right?"

“Exactly,” she replied, lifting her book some to pull out a notebook. There some things jotted down and some things scribbled out, and some with question marks and other things underlined.

“So I figured we can try throwing a party for her. Nothing big, just something fun, y’know? But I need some help, since...well, neither Webby or I really grew up normal.”

It was getting easier to say things like that without feeling sorry for herself...at least not really. But right now it was just a statement of fact, nothing more.

"Alright," Louie said, once she'd explained. He knew better than to comment on the 'grew up normal' thing - he wouldn't know what to say. Instead, he focused on the notebook she'd revealed. "What kind of things were you thinking? Are there going to be decorations and games? That stuff's pretty lame to me, but I think Webby'd like it."

She slid the notebook closer to him so he could better see the ideas she'd written down. "Yeah, something like that. I figure the decorations could be kinda normal, y'know: balloons, streamers, the whole thing. But as far as games go, I was thinking of something like a scavenger hunt. That seemed to be a bit more Webby's thing."

"A scavenger hunt?" He couldn't help smiling more enthusiastically than usual at that. He's working on getting over Webby, but it's not a quick thing. And she's always going to be one of his closest friends. So no matter what way he looked at it, it was just nice to think about Webby being happy. "Yeah, that's totally Webs, you're right. She's going to love it."

With a grin, she nodded. "Right? It probably won't be as exciting as an actual adventure, but I think she'll have fun anyway. But what I can't come up with is the treasure she's supposed to find at the end."

If there was one place he knew how to get to, it was the library. Could practically do it with his eyes closed! Lena's note caused him no undue bit of curiosity, and as soon as he received it he headed off to meet her.

She was, indeed, easy to spot, but mindful of the Quiet Rule, he waited until he was close enough to hail her.

"Hey Lena, what's up?"

Glancing up for a moment, she waved the hand still holding a pencil.

"Hey, dude," she said, motioning for him to take a seat. "I need your help with something."

"Of course!" He offered her a warm enough smile as he slid into the chair. "What do you need?"

Tapping her pencil in her notebook, she then slid it over to him so he could see its pages. "See, Webby's birthday is coming up, and I thought it'd be cool throw her a party."

"Webby's birthday?" He picked up the notebook and cast his eyes over it, kicking his feet a little at the prospect of what he was about to say.

"Well, you came to the right guy! I happen to be the Party Master." Duckworth who?

She snickered. "Well good, because I have no idea what I'm doing."

He studied the page again, then held out his hand for her pencil.

"If I may?"

With a shrug, she handed it to him. "Go for it."
