What: Lena asks the boys for help planning a birthday party for Webby. Because that can't go wrong

It was only mentioned for a brief moment, but learning that Webby's birthday was coming up meant that Lena had work to do. Unfortunately, while she had an idea of how people celebrated birthdays from what she picked up here and there, actually planning one was not familiar territory for her.

So at some point, each of the guys might find Nectormancer flying around before the bat familiar lands on or near them, holding a note for them. And the note carried a simple message:

Meet me at the library
Lena

She wouldn't be difficult to spot, either, and for all the world it looked like she was just reading.

Though she was also keeping an eye out for Webby, just in case.

"Ahh, the traditional approach!" He braced his elbows on the table and pressed his fingertips together in front of his beak. "However, there's a big obstacle still in the way. How to surprise Webby without her instantly going into kung fu kid mode? Because our collective track record is... not great at that."

She frowned slightly at that. "Yeah, that's a good point. She's definitely the hit first type."

"My tailbone still hurts sometimes, I swear." Muttered to himself, as he ticked his index fingers, eyes half-closed in thought. "There's always you leading Webby for a walk into the party space, and let her make her own conclusions before the guests approach her and-or jump out in surprise. Of course with Webby, she may go sailing over the mark entirely and wonder if it's a new spell, or the academy is having a special Pink Day celebration, or something of the sort."

He paused, then waved a hand. "Not that that's a bad thing, of course! But it makes our job all the more difficult."

"Yeah. I can definitely distract her for a little bit. That won't be too hard. Maybe we can skip the whole 'everyone jumps out and yell surprise' thing and just have everyone there with the party set up?"

"Yeah, I'm thinking that'll be the best way to go about it. And if she does misconstrue what the party is for, there'll be the rest of us there to steer her clearer."

"We can have a banner that says 'Happy Birthday, Webby'? Hard to mistaken that."

"That is an extremely good point." He chuckled some, not even mad that Lena had come up with such an essential thing before he did. She was so kind, doing this for Webby and- no Huey, focus.

"Have you talked to the others about this yet?"

"I sent a note to the other two. Louie and I thought maybe a scavenger hunt would be kinda fun. Webby would eat it up."

"A scavenger hunt is an excellent idea. Webby may also appreciate games of skill, perhaps even magic 'duels' that're more flashy Fantastics than they are anything that'd truly hurt."

"Maybe something like a tournament, then? Have people compete against each other in 'duels' to determine a winner?"

He considered that, and nodded. "Yeah! And maybe Webby can be both crowner of the champion and final challenge, as the guest of honor."

She snickered. "I don't think Webby would be willing to wait that long for a chance to duel someone."

Huey paused, then laughed some. "Yeah, I guess not... Still, a tournament is a good idea all the same."

So it gets added to the list.

"We'll probably have to make her one of the starting competitors. Even if she doesn't make it to the end, she'll have more fun testing her skills than waiting until the last person to do anything."

"That's true. You really do know Webby best, after all." He glanced up, smiling at her.

That got a soft smile of her own. "Yeah well...she's my best friend."

Then she glanced at Huey.

"Not that we're not friends or anything. Webby's just...different, y'know?"

"Oh don't worry, I completely get what you mean. It must be really nice to have someone you're super close to like that."

"Yeah...I guess it is."

Huey nodded lightly, smiling still.

"Webby will really appreciate you throwing this party for her. I'm 100% certain of that." A pause and a little 'Oh!' exclamation, then he adds, "But make sure you put hamburgers on the food list."

"Hamburgers, huh?" She jotted that down. "I'll still need help getting everything together for the party. You and your brothers will need to help me with that too."

"Of course, Lena!" He gave her an honest smile. "You can count on me for whatever you need. -And my brothers too, of course!"

Nailed it.

With a smile, she nodded. "Thanks. Which reminds me, how do you think we should do invitations?"

"Familiar delivered, perhaps? They go in and out so much, it'll be easy to miss a few carrying something specific to Webby's friends."

"That's a good idea. And that way, it goes straight to them, so Webby won't notice like if we'd try to pass them out or something."

"Exactly!" Party. Master. "So we'll get the invitations to everyone like that, and then it can be a group effort to decorate while you distract her."
