| Fall Cleaning
The faculty barely bat an eye as they direct students to get outside quickly. "Fall cleaning," they explain wearily to those students who have never experienced this phenomenon. Older students offer their own explanation as they move: at some point every fall the buildings of the Magicademy rearrange themselves so the cleaning golems can repair their foundations, tend to the ground around them, keep them from sinking into the caverns, that sort of thing. Totally harmless. Well, until you realize no one knows where your House tower went. Or till you need to get to class promptly except Kedrigan Hall is in the middle of a lake somehow. Or till the Library of Starchime is down in the middle of the lab caverns and you have to try to study while students practice magic in the aisles. But it's okay! This will only last for a couple of days! You can get by, right?
It's one of the nicer times you could ask for.
Headmaster Birony has found out about Halloween. Diatu Magicademy is nothing but orange and black now. Carved pumpkins wander the campus and aggressively pose for anyone who glances their way (or doesn't...). Spiderwebs litter every hallways and passage, complete with spiders that patiently move their webs out of the way and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience with a sort of weariness that says they know exactly who to blame for this. A twelve-foot-high menorah sits in the Great Hall, leading some to suspect that the Headmaster's Intimations to learn more about the holiday did not produce universally-accurate results. Headmaster Birony herself patrols the grounds like a madwoman, slinging extra spookiness wherever she passes and occasionally Discovering costumes straight onto the innocent students she passes. "Spirit of the season!" she yells before fleeing, candy and toilet paper left behind in her path. If by this point you are questioning whether the Headmaster ever does actual work, rest assured you're not the first, nor will you be the last, to wonder that.

So there was Jecht, standing where the Great Hall ought to be and very much wasn't.
"Uh, anybody see where this thing went?" he said, more out of frustration than any expectation of getting a real answer. His suite was in there, damn it!
"What am I supposed to do, camp out?!"
The Bonfire
Hey, now this was more like it.
Jecht lounged by the bonfire, on a chair someone had loaned him without him even needing to ask. Maybe they recognized him from bala-inlota? Or maybe just everyone was being way nice right now. Either way, it wasn't so bad.
Arms folded behind his head, the man looked far more relaxed than most people have ever seen him. Downright serene, almost. It might almost be weird. But he wasn't out of it by any means; his eyes stayed open as he watched the people moving around, and he had a lazy smile for most and a wave for the ones he knew.
This Is Halloween
"Hey!" Jecht also said a couple less classy words as he shoved at a pumpkin, which had outright wrapped one vine around his leg and was resolutely jamming itself into his face to get him to appreciate its incredibly clever carving job. It had a snaggletooth. Other pumpkins swarmed around him, all jockeying for position and vying for attention.
"Why am I so popular?!"

Sunset tries to create a bubble spell to push them off, because she's not a monster enough to just stand by and watch. But she's not making much headway.

"Sure, why not? I'd think that would be a good way to toughen yourself up or whatever, right?"

"How strange."
Thanks to the Headmaster, Orisa now had the guise of a centaur! A horse costume surrounded her lower half, not the most convincing disguise but enough to pass muster for appearances' sake -- and on top, she wore a sort of toga, with a human mask crammed on over her head. Magic even made it so that a human mask COULD fit over her head without getting hung up on her horns!
"I have never celebrated Halloween before. I think this will be fun!"
Research
Orisa took her duties very, very seriously! Obviously, because she had a notebook and everything!
She was undergoing a certain amount of struggle trying to keep the notebook balanced on her fusion driver, but never mind! "Hello! Would you please answer some -- oh my, one second." The notebook was on the ground again...
Research
"What are you doing with this, anyway?"
(no subject)
Research
"This might work better for you, I think," he said, sliding it carefully over Orisa's weapon arm. "And you can take it off when you don't need it, but I don't think you exactly fit in desks, either. Wish I'd had my powers sooner, honestly."
Since he was really sure that'd come in handy, now...

With his back against that tree, Dust munched on the remaining half of a particularly large sandwich he'd snagged from the Great Hall back when it was still where it should be, and mentally patted himself on the back for picking up that habit. The rough days of a couple months ago had left enough of an impression that he'd vowed not to go hungry again, and lo and behold, it had served him well!
Honestly, this was the most comfortable Dust had been since coming to the Magicademy. It called back to his days in Falana, camping wherever he needed to and always on the move the next day, to find whatever trouble he needed to put down or answers he needed to find. It'd be perfect, except...
Well, he hadn't spent that time alone. The lack of his friend was the one major thing that cast a shadow on an otherwise pleasant night.
no subject
It was also getting loud and crowded, and for a young duck who - though he'd never admit it - is pretty sensitive, it was getting overwhelming. He didn't want to isolate, though... Not having someone to talk to would make him more uncomfortable.
The solution presented itself when he spotted Dust - it had certainly been a while, but he headed over to stand in front of him, all the same.
"Hey... I'm Louie. You helped me with those jerks a few months ago, if you remember that."

That was because Isabel's answer to her quarters disappearing for now was to go into the city. Especially when she found out that the Great Hall had disappeared, as well. That meant it was time to get food for the evening as well as the moment, and maybe some supplies for later that night.
She'd only returned when twilight painted the sky with a blend of warm and cool colors, so it was easy to see the smaller fire away from the big bonfire.
Isabel strolled right up to Dust's campsite as if she owned the place, sitting herself right down next to the Warmblood. She lifted a small, wrapped parcel so that he could see it.
"I've been in the city. So do you want cherry amaretto pie, or apple caramel pie?" She knew Dust had a sweet tooth, so she'd come prepared! But since he was still eating, she wasn't about to shove dessert in his face.

[Webby has to wonder what Granny would think of this type of cleaning. But that's something to wonder later.
Because Webby was leaning out a window to wave hi to a friend when the building she was in began to move - ]
Uh-oh - !
[Aaand she's falling out of it now.]
AAAAAH THIS IS NOT HOW I WANTED TO GO IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A PIT OF SPIIIIKES!
[She scrambles to grab her wand or grappling hook - or can you save her before she can save herself
or becomes a webby pancake?]This Is Halloween
[Webby had been minding her own business - for once - before she's suddenly costumed! She blinks a bit, turning around to get a full view, and...?]
... Hey, this is neat! Can I keep this?
[Good on you, Headmaster, Webby loves being a knight!]
Sunderdog
[Always happy to help! Webby's a bit unsure where to start, because when they mentioned the assigned topic...]
What do you think they meant by "magic styles"? That's pretty vague. You could be talking about enchanted creatures, or runes, or spells, or potions, or...
[This could take a while.]

Have at thee, varlet!

HalloweenAudio WarfareIt started with a wayward pumpkin and a few stuck-up Purifeul members with a Modification spell. And then there were a few Valhudor bystanders who scoffed, rolled up their sleeves, and burst into harmonious song. A cathedral sprang up on the lawn, complete with elaborate wrought iron gates and eerie golden light from the stained glass windows. No one is surprised, but the building itself is moving around and collecting students for the impromptu
battleparty.Maybe you came for curiosity, drawn to the chaos of instruments and voices. Or you hoped to sneak your own spells into the fun. Hopefully you arrived after Birony, because then the hall is filled with candy, and Tenn in gentlemanly, gothic attire passes you some of the spoils in a handkerchief.
"Here. Compliments of the Headmaster. I think they’re pie-flavored." And then he's eyeing your attire curtly. "You'll want to change your outfit before someone does it for you."
Not long after, he takes to the center of the hall to dance, and it's not the reserved, graceful styles he's known for at the local restaurants; hip-hop is embraced strongly tonight – fast, sharp movements keeping the tiny bells on his wrist in constant ringing to maintain a play of light and shadow around him.
Citizens Found Out About a Ghost Dragon
Wizards are always a topic of conversation in the city. But this month is the first time he's heard them spoken of in such distrustful tones. Tenn isn't in the tavern long before there’s hushed mention of curses, students whose grasp for power goes too far, and undercurrents about forbidden arts. He’s starting to feel a little sick, sitting with his hands clenched, trying not show the frustration creeping into his thoughts.
A few sympathetic looks find him. "Not you, Tenn." A free drink is slid his way. "Are you sure you don’t want to stay at the inn? There’s a room for you if you change your mind." Tenn smiles and reassures them that, yes, he’s quite all right. No one wants to lose young students to a dragon, after all. He has to wear a brave face, especially now; he won’t give them reason to worry. But if someone he knows enters, Tenn may move to sit closer to them; he has cause to be protective tonight.
Later Tenn departs for the dorms, strolling through the city at an unhurried pace in a nondescript cloak; showing his House colors might make others uncomfortable, and that he does not wish to see more of. Having to witness students be turned away or gossiped about in passing hurts enough. One such incident might lead to him stepping into range, giving the citizen in question a judgmental once-over before checking on his fellow student.
This is Audio Warfare
But at least he finally got some free food out of the other student?
"Uh, thanks?" He's more focused on the second statement, honestly. "So... Costume magic? Is that what's going on?"
(no subject)
Citizens
After all, those who admire dragons just think Spyro's adorable. "Alright alright... guys! I gotta get back to my dorm. And didn't you say there was work you didn't want to be late for at the docks?"
"Got us again! Ya got a good head on your shoulders, kid!"
"Yeah be careful around here! Come runnin' back to find one of us if anyone even looks at ye funny, ya hear? No one messes our bar's mascot because of some ghost story!"
Soon there are hands trying to ruffle the soft fish fin-like 'mohawk' of spikes on his head and then fist bumps get exchanged before Spyro and his acquaintances part ways. Though contrary to what one of his new friends insisted, the young dragon only gives an unimpressed look at whoever's bold enough to express a negatively biased opinion.

Noa is having a stressful day. "Shhhh...shhh, there there..." Kuma the horse is having a worse day, however, and Noa is doing his best to calm her down as he leads her back toward the dorm towers. The stables it seems...are missing. Faculty say its normal.
Kuma does not agree. Kuma is upset. She just got used to the stables. Now the stables are gone. Where Stable.
"It's alright...we're going to stay somewhere else you know, hmm...shhhh..."
"AUUH!-" Ah, a penguin. Noa turns to frown at them.
"What is it."
The penguin in reply just squawks, and rather frantically. It jumps up and down, waves its flippers around, and continues the panic as Noa turns another corner down the path toward the dorms. Or...
Where they should be? "AAAAAU!"
"AH..."
WHERE IS THE DORM TOWER!
[Rest for the Weary]
While the questionable location of the dorms is a pain, the bonfires are nice. He's never gone camping, at least not really, but the similarities are enough to make the novelty of it all rather fun. Even if he had to convince Adelai to get a few penguins shopping for a tent and bedroll.
And a small canopy, because Kuma deserves a roof.
Kuma in question is now much calmer, possibly because she has a stash of delicious apples and oats to munch. She's down on her front, serving as a sort of backrest while Noa fiddles with his ocarina, or occasionally focuses on a book. It's...
Nice.
"Pwwhhhhhhhh....fwhhhh..."
And occasionally, he might even start trying a small tune from the ocarina.
[THIS IS HALLOWEEN (HALLOWEEN), HALLOWEEN!]
Noa has been dressed in no fewer than three costumes this week. Every time he comes across Birony, it's something new. First it was a mummy. Then it was a robot. This time, as he rubs his head, he appears to be a tiny green vampire, with some pumpkin accents. He's a little tired of it all. But...
But candy. Candy makes it worth it, and Birony leaves some behind every time. He munches on a toffee he's salvaged from the trail, sighing to whoever was discovered into a costume with him this time. "By the time Halloween arrives, I won't have anything left to dress up as, if the Headmaster has her way..."
[THE SUNDERDOG]
Research time? Well, this is a rather nice change of things. The seats are rather comfortable as well- possibly because some of them wil be here for hours. Cushioned and sofa-like, Noa wonders if he should have brought something to drink. Maybe a warm tea, given the dreary weather.
It's too late to consider that though, and he can probably ask later. For now, Noa looks to the one he's partnered with, stretching comfortably against the seat to get more situated for any 'stories'. "So...who should go first?"

Yotsuyu has questions. Questions that she isn't certain that she wants answered. First and foremost in her mind? (Aided in no small part in the discussions of her Espionage students and their discussions of 'who they ship'...) Is Headmaster Birony a shipper?
Whyever would Yotsuyu wonder that, you ask?
She's not entirely certain that she wants to find out the answer. Yotsuyu's also not certain she wants anyone else to see her like this, either!
[The Bonfire]
Yotsuyu is one of those who has brought something to share. To wit; a pair of gallon jugs, full of sweet apple cider. (She may have hard cider secreted somewhere as well, but that is not for the younger students, and she will hoard it away from them. Only her closest friends will get a portion!)
She has made herself a little tent on one side of the bonfire, clearly intending to take a turn at keeping it lit, and for the moment sits cross-legged in front of it, with a cup of cider of her own near the jugs.
[Research on the Sundered]
"'Tis true, I know little of the practice of magic on Hydaelyn, but that does not mean I cannot speak of theory. So what harm is there in comparing notes?" Yotsuyu asked. Of course, if there was another topic that intrigued her companion, she'd do her best to converse!
Halloween
"Oh man! That fits you like it was made for you!" Without shame, he wandered right on up, looking over her costume and the nice way it fit her. "You know -- it was, but the style!"

"So is there anyone I haven't already told about the whole horses turning into human girls through a mirror thing?" Sunset wonders aloud. "It's pretty weird, from what I gather."
And no she won't be giving a demonstration. She can't, sadly. But she can sure tell the stories.
nightmare night (halloween)
It's been a while, certainly. Sunset never really had time to celebrate Nightmare Night back home, not with all her studies, and she knew the human version of the celebration was slightly different. But that still didn't explain the headmaster's behavior.
She found herself in a floofy emerald green witch dress and floppy hat, brushing off the candy she'd been pelted with. She looked at her fellow students, bewildered.
"Does she think I'm going to eat her? I'm not Nightmare Moon! I mean...I was a demon once, I guess, but on Nightmare Night you only throw candy at people you're afraid of."
Nightmare Night
He could get used to this.
When he hears Sunset speak up, though, he glances sidelong at her. "Okay, there's nothing you just said that I don't have a question about."

Kaiba has had about enough of all of this. He's about given up on making it back to the tower with how often it moves, and he flops onto a nearby bench...
...only for it to start to move. Jumping off now.
"...maybe I should just go back to town tonight." Which was an option...he was known enough as a gamer that the townspeople didn't reject him quite as much as they would other students, though if his affinity for dragons became known...
Why did everything have to be so difficult?
halloween
But his troubles don't end there. On a routine stroll to the (thankfully settled) library, Kaiba's hit with a stray spell and he finds himself suddenly encased in some bulky dragon armor. He wanders over to the nearest reflective surface and sighs.
"Of course it wouldn't be anything else. This is ridiculous."
He takes a sharp turn to make it back to his dorm where he can take this off...might want to dodge his wings, they're sturdier than they look.
later in the month (closed to yugi)
Fortunately, he's no longer stuck in that bulky dragon armor. Unfortunately, what he's stuck in now is arguably worse. He can barely see through the mask, and the moving towers and giggles from classmates really aren't helping much. So it's a while before he finally makes it to the Aer tower, obnoxiously cheerful birthday cookie in hand.
"Yugi?" Yugi's got some explaining to do.
Halloween
Spotting him on the way back to his dorm, Orisa immediately analyzed his costume with a gradual shift of her eyes to red. On reaching her terrible conclusion, she immediately interposed herself in front of him, waggling a finger.
"The dragon beneath the island is a danger to many and certainly not to be taken lightly! You should not cosplay as it."

This seemed like a perfectly welcoming and suitable way to say farewell to a season, so he was in attendance. In fact, Atem was planning on camping out under the stars like so many of the other sundered. Gazing up at the sky, it was nothing like the vistas from home but how could anything compare with that? With the lack of electrical lights, and the sprawling expanse of the desert sand there wasn't anything to compete with the spherical orbs up above. that being said he could still appreciate the sight before him now.
Coming out of his trance, he unfurled a sleeping bag and laid it carefully on the ground. The festive music ensured a jovial mood. If he'd had a mind to, he would have invited someone else to have come along with him but he likely would run into plenty of his fellow classmates to while away the time with.
[This is Halloween]
As the headmaster proceeded down the hall caught up in a flurry of festival excitement, Atem wasn't able to fully assess what had transpired when he'd been struck with that stray show of magical mischief. The first thing he noticed was just how much draftier the hallway felt, and then there was something covering his face and hair....
Feeling oddly exposed, he looked down and caught sight of his midriff but at least that was all that was on display. Whether it was intentional or not, Atem had ended up dressed as either a genie or a dancing..... girl? At least there had been no physiological changes to go with it. He was still male, just dressed in what appeared to be a more feminine costume.
Perhaps he could make it back to the house tower before anyone caught sight of him? Assuming it had not decided to alter it's location yet again.
halloween
He's dumbstruck for a moment as they face each other in the hallway, and then with a nod and a cough he decides to pass by without saying anything. Please don't recognize him...

The flashing lights and the screeching alarm was bad enough, but when the tremors started Hel was nearly dislodged from her perch. Getting off of her chair, she stumbled a little until she had the sense to begin hovering over the floor. "It couldn't be..... is it another monster?" Was she giving the staff too much credit that they would have had sense enough to install an alarm system after the last battle?
The answer was yes.
Somehow she missed the audible encouragement to depart, but she instinctively knew better than to remain inside the structure. Once she was safely outside, her head whipped to either side as she caught sight of the other evacuees, her pigtails swinging. It only proceeded to get more bizarre. All around her the buildings were moving on their own and shuffling at will. Offering up her most deadpan expression Hel said for anyone within earshot to catch. "............. I get that some of the student body is irritating but for the buildings to take it this far is overly dramatic..."
[This is Halloween]
The Jack o'lanterns were a bit of a pain as they all tried to fight for attention. If they had just remained stationary then Hel could have appreciated them in some way. What made it worse was her helhound, Garm, striding by her side yapping at them whenever they got too close. He knew his master well enough to realize that the colorful gourds were irritating her so he was doing his part to remove them from the path.
At least the spiders, though they were creepy bugs, were polite enough to pull their webs out of the way like fine draperies.
"Garm! That's enough!" Unable to take it any longer she chided the beast. Still looking down towards the now petite creature, since his collar had been repaired a month ago, Hel was oblivious to the danger. She didn't see the headmistress turning into this hall, or the brandishing of her chosen magical implement of the time.
Gruff ruff!
(Master, look out!)
Garm valiantly threw himself between the two, ending up in a rather ridiculous mouse costume.

It should have been evident to the staff that Marisol was not an ideal student. Though she hadn't told anyone, she couldn't read the texts for class having never needed that skill before, and Jenghis could only read so fast. Well- if she'd been focusing on the coursework that is. The longer it took her to learn magic and grow the longer it would be before she had to resume her responsibilities elsewhere.
So, she did enjoy the musical element of her house, and was showing progress in activities related to that.... but otherwise she was trending towards recreational endeavors.
Like this convenient bonfire here. Currently she had sidled up closer to the open flame, so she could toast this peculiar white squishy cylinder. Everyone else was doing it, so why question it. She can also be found singing, dancing, or just resting in various locations.
[Fall Cleaning<]
As it would happen, Marisol had been fortunate enough to have been outside when everything started going off. She was reclining on a bench, letting her tail flip lazily. One arm was tucked behind her head to prop it up, and the other was raised up before her face to make it easier to converse with the walking stick bug sitting on said arm. Without having any warning, she startled easily, jumping to her feet and hurling poor unfortunate Jenghis into a nearby bush.
"What in the-?!"
Her ears flattened against her head trying to prevent some of the sharp notes of the alarm from deafening her. Then the rumbling commenced. The buildings raised from their sitting places and started shuffling every which way. Jenghis to his credit had managed to free himself from the bush, and was crawling back to her when they both made a terrible realization at the same time. Some of the buildings were aimed right for them.
In a desperate act Jenghis increased his size, so he was large enough to carry a passenger, and in this manner they proceeded to flee as fast as he could skitter out of the way,
[This is Halloween]
The traditions were quite different here than what Marisol was used to so when she found the giant candlestick-thing she never questioned it.
"Where did they ever find candles that big.....?" Cocking her head to one side, you could just tell that she had this strange desire to find a way to climb up there.

This...was weird. Cliff had thought his father's flying castle strange, but at least it was precisely what it was on the tin. A flying castle. But he only stood there in awed horror as Gekronus Maius' tower pulled itself from the ground and wandered off.
"And they say this is normal?" he asked, weakly.
This Is Halloween (What Is Halloween??)
He heard her before he saw her, but even with that foreknowledge, Cliff couldn't escape Headmaster Birony and her Halloween cheer. He'd call it cheer because she really is quite cheerful about it all...
He is rather astounded by his costume, however. It is akin to something he's done in the past, even--though when Cliff acquires a golem form, it's a bit less...humanoid in shape and more like a serious rock monster. So he's as bemused as he is confused, Rounder still spinning at his feet.
"Hey, uh, thanks?" he calls after her. All the Headmaster does is pelt him with candy, which has Rounder scooping it up. Gotta save that for later!
