October Event Log
| Fall Cleaning
The faculty barely bat an eye as they direct students to get outside quickly. "Fall cleaning," they explain wearily to those students who have never experienced this phenomenon. Older students offer their own explanation as they move: at some point every fall the buildings of the Magicademy rearrange themselves so the cleaning golems can repair their foundations, tend to the ground around them, keep them from sinking into the caverns, that sort of thing. Totally harmless. Well, until you realize no one knows where your House tower went. Or till you need to get to class promptly except Kedrigan Hall is in the middle of a lake somehow. Or till the Library of Starchime is down in the middle of the lab caverns and you have to try to study while students practice magic in the aisles. But it's okay! This will only last for a couple of days! You can get by, right?
It's one of the nicer times you could ask for.
Headmaster Birony has found out about Halloween. Diatu Magicademy is nothing but orange and black now. Carved pumpkins wander the campus and aggressively pose for anyone who glances their way (or doesn't...). Spiderwebs litter every hallways and passage, complete with spiders that patiently move their webs out of the way and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience with a sort of weariness that says they know exactly who to blame for this. A twelve-foot-high menorah sits in the Great Hall, leading some to suspect that the Headmaster's Intimations to learn more about the holiday did not produce universally-accurate results. Headmaster Birony herself patrols the grounds like a madwoman, slinging extra spookiness wherever she passes and occasionally Discovering costumes straight onto the innocent students she passes. "Spirit of the season!" she yells before fleeing, candy and toilet paper left behind in her path. If by this point you are questioning whether the Headmaster ever does actual work, rest assured you're not the first, nor will you be the last, to wonder that.

Noa is having a stressful day. "Shhhh...shhh, there there..." Kuma the horse is having a worse day, however, and Noa is doing his best to calm her down as he leads her back toward the dorm towers. The stables it seems...are missing. Faculty say its normal.
Kuma does not agree. Kuma is upset. She just got used to the stables. Now the stables are gone. Where Stable.
"It's alright...we're going to stay somewhere else you know, hmm...shhhh..."
"AUUH!-" Ah, a penguin. Noa turns to frown at them.
"What is it."
The penguin in reply just squawks, and rather frantically. It jumps up and down, waves its flippers around, and continues the panic as Noa turns another corner down the path toward the dorms. Or...
Where they should be? "AAAAAU!"
"AH..."
WHERE IS THE DORM TOWER!
[Rest for the Weary]
While the questionable location of the dorms is a pain, the bonfires are nice. He's never gone camping, at least not really, but the similarities are enough to make the novelty of it all rather fun. Even if he had to convince Adelai to get a few penguins shopping for a tent and bedroll.
And a small canopy, because Kuma deserves a roof.
Kuma in question is now much calmer, possibly because she has a stash of delicious apples and oats to munch. She's down on her front, serving as a sort of backrest while Noa fiddles with his ocarina, or occasionally focuses on a book. It's...
Nice.
"Pwwhhhhhhhh....fwhhhh..."
And occasionally, he might even start trying a small tune from the ocarina.
[THIS IS HALLOWEEN (HALLOWEEN), HALLOWEEN!]
Noa has been dressed in no fewer than three costumes this week. Every time he comes across Birony, it's something new. First it was a mummy. Then it was a robot. This time, as he rubs his head, he appears to be a tiny green vampire, with some pumpkin accents. He's a little tired of it all. But...
But candy. Candy makes it worth it, and Birony leaves some behind every time. He munches on a toffee he's salvaged from the trail, sighing to whoever was discovered into a costume with him this time. "By the time Halloween arrives, I won't have anything left to dress up as, if the Headmaster has her way..."
[THE SUNDERDOG]
Research time? Well, this is a rather nice change of things. The seats are rather comfortable as well- possibly because some of them wil be here for hours. Cushioned and sofa-like, Noa wonders if he should have brought something to drink. Maybe a warm tea, given the dreary weather.
It's too late to consider that though, and he can probably ask later. For now, Noa looks to the one he's partnered with, stretching comfortably against the seat to get more situated for any 'stories'. "So...who should go first?"
bonfire
"Hm. Is it too warm for them?"

He settles against a nearby log. "...the ghost hasn't come after you again, has it?"
no subject
Noa narrows his eyes, and slowly looks to his step-brother from the corners of them. "...What did you do..."

"What!" he hisses, bristling. "I've been having a hard enough time trying to figure out how to help block off the caverns! It's coming out anyway!?"
This is Halloween
The kid scoops up a handful of wrapped candies, shrugging. "Sure, I guess. But free treats!"

"I wanna hear all about your world! I bet it's super neat!"
no subject
Yeah.
"Is that so? I suspect it won't be nearly on par to one where humans don't even exist..." he hums, arms crossing. "But alright- where should I start- a general point gives me a better idea of what to dig into."
no subject
"How about ancient legends, got any of those?"
no subject
Gizzards?? No Gizzards? It is a Mystery.
"Ancient legends however, I have in abundance...I think I might use Egypt's, I suspect they'll be the most different. ...In fact..." He gains an odd sort of grin, like he's doing something he really shouldn't.
"There's an entire, albeit brief, reign that there's no clear historic record of..."

He may have tried, foolishly, to possess someone connected to it, as well. But mostly sources. "No record is perhaps inaccurate now; rather, there was no record of the name of who reigned. This was rather serious- to the Egyptians, as with many other societies, a name brought power over you. In their case in particular, it could even be said to hold part of your soul."
no subject
"Did you ever find out the name? And why did the name vanish in the first place?"
no subject
no subject
"How so? Was it because of an ancient curse? Oooh, was it bloody vengeance from beyond the grave?"
no subject
Implying...he knows...this guy...

Perhaps not literally, but. "I would say we're....acquainted," he says carefully. "That's about it."

"...They definitely aren't decaying," is all he says, crossing his arms while amusement plays across his face. "They look quite alive, I assure you~"

"I do recall that I was supposed to talk about my world not one person...you have yet to tell me anything of yours for that matter..."
Expertly dodged!
