February Event and Intro Log
Orientation Week/Magic Mayhem
The campus of Diatu Magicademy stretches out before you, confused and chaotic and surging with energy. Where are you headed? To your dorm or suite, to get settled? Maybe you need some food now? Wherever you head off to as your first stop, you have to deal with the snow. Helpful or proud students are passing out various magical remedies to get you where you need to be -- umbrellas with a nasty tendency to dump snow directly onto other people nearby, an iron tube that projects fire but appears to have no off switch, snowshoes that keep you slightly too high off the snow and thus provide no friction for stopping...
Familiar Follies
Familiars do not harass or harm each other as a rule -- but that doesn't mean they have no pecking order, and the week of Orientation finds them all jockeying for status and position as suits them. This can take the form of pranks, displays, competitions, or simple physical assertiveness towards each other. The goal is simply to be seen as superior by the student body. New wizards especially may find themselves surprised at this behavior of their familiars...
Research On the Sundered
With the arrival of the Sundered come those wizards engaged in research on their presence here, now set to investigate what brought them here and how to get them home. All Sundered students are asked to meet with representatives of the research team, to introduce themselves and relate what they will of their homes. In addition, the team requests samples of blood, hair, and skin -- carefully magically collected, and the researchers will sign in the presence of the Sundered a Glyphed contract that forbids them from using the samples for a purpose they know will be harmful. (They quite understand your reasons to be suspicious of this collection! And they will not compel anyone who refuses even given these conditions.)
Furthermore, they request to perform a few spells on you for testing purposes. It is, quite regrettably, possible that if you consent to this testing, you will come away with a temporary side effect -- a slight change of hair color, traveling two steps for every one you take, one hand moving about a second behind the arm it should be attached to, or being ridden by a penguin. No need to worry, these changes won't last more than a day!
Wonders Await
Diatu Magicademy is open to you in all its glory. Have fun! |
research on the sundered.
That depends entirely on what you mean. [Given the context clues it didn't take long to figure it out that this boy was experimented on. Hel had initially volunteered to help with the research but she had drawn the line rather early much to the staff's chagrin. Pointing to her two-toned hair she quietly stated] It's always like this.
[What a peculiar person to volunteer willingly to be a guinea pig]

I like it though! Mine's kind of the same when it's not, uh, flashing.

It's nice to find someone with good taste.

hahaha. ]I hope I'm not the only one. [ come on people! ] I'm Yugi, by the way, it's nice to meet you.

Skuld would have done the same thing, wouldn't she?Guess she better look out for this human since he was unable to do so for himself] There might be a way to at least tone it down in the meantime. I warn you though, it would be just as ridiculous looking. [Hel produced the infinity cloth] This magical item, useless though it may look, can be unfolded for as much material as you need. Then you could wrap your hair in this until it's thick enough to block more of the light.I will expect it back, however you can borrow it.
As do I. I'm Queen Hel, ruler of Helheim- and I'm frequently being drawn into adventures that have nothing to do with my actual duties.

trouble follows him like a shadow so please look after him!] You think so? [ he had just planned on closing his eyes and hoping he could feel his way back to the dorm, though he probably would have called on his familiar for a little help. ] Wow, really? That's pretty cool.[ he feels his face color at the offer, because that sure was nice of her! ] Of course! [ but, wait, hold the phone. ] Hel? er, sorry, Queen Hel? Really? [ his eyes lite up as he gave her another once over. she's nothing like he imagine, but still cool nonetheless. ] It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Yugi, and though our circumstances are very different I'm always somehow pulled into things too. [ he gives a laugh as he starts wrapping his hair. ]
Terrible word pun is terrible. Sorry in advance
How can one human get into so much trouble?][She nodded to his first question then elaborated on what she had come up with] I don't know that I would call it cool but it can now serve a purpose.
[Oh no- it looked like the spell might be effecting the color of his skin now as well, unless he was actually blushing] So we understand one another. [His word would be good enough. Some other personality type she would question] That's correct. [It was nice to have a name to go with a face, and if she wasn't mistaken he'd heard of her before?
For reference since he looked her over] You said that before. [Assuming Yugi did not in fact mean to introduce himself twice she pointed it out so he didn't do it a third. Clearly, he had been struck with such awe by being in the presence of an Aesir that he temporarily lost his senses.Or- he was still feeling out of his element and a touch nervous] I wonder if it's the same for the others, it would explain some of this nonsense.i love puns so never apologize for puns!
his middle name is trouble. ]No? I guess you've probably seen a lot more than I have. We had a bit of magic back home, but it centered around a couple of ancient Egyptian artifacts. [ so he really did think her infinite cloth was cool. ] But, hm, maybe you'd think this was cool; my familiar. [ he pulls a set out dice out from his pocket and throws them onto the ground; snake, ???, ???. the dice split apart to reveal his familiar, peregrin, who has a mermaid tail, a horse body, and a snake head. ] Meet Peregrin.
[ he digs her aesthetic! ] Did I... [ he trails off and into a chuckle, his hand coming to his head as he gives it a shake. ] I think I might be losing it.
fff, my bad.] I don't know, but if that's the case, then we all might want to be careful, because we've got the collective potential to bring some real big trouble here. [ or something. ]no subject
He should think about having it legally changed]It's just a bit of cloth. [It was true that she had seen a wide variety of magical items, weapons and gear so that is why the cloth of infinity seemed to pale in comparison. For just a few examples: the golden apples of Idun with the ability to grant immortality and eternal youth to those who dined upon them, Thor's hammer that could trigger thunder and lightning from the heavens- and other such things.] Did you say Egyptian? [That got her attention, her nose crinkling up a moment later] Tell me you have no personal affiliation with Medjed. [Hel had no great love for that deity, Osiris on the other hand was alright. She seemed to be the more sensible of the two. Also, despite what Hel said, she had put her newfound cloth to use on multiple occasions now. It was handy] ...... [She watched curiously as the die were cast] That's like if Marmalade, Sleipnir, and Nidhogg had a child..... [Which would have been impossible mind you. Marmalade being a mermaid, Sleipnir a six legged horse, and Nidhogg being a cross between a dragon with a more serpent like head] Peregrin isn't bad, it's a good name for it too.
[She can tell from the accessories Yugi is sporting that he might appreciate elements of her look] You did, but I wouldn't worry about it. [
No worries] There is always that potential. [At the moment she's not overly concerned by it] Which dorm are you staying in?no subject
but yugi trouble mutou just rolls right off the tongue. ]I guess I'm still getting used to being in a world that's centered around nothing but magic. [ he said mildly apologetic. he wouldn't help but find everything so amazing, because he'd never experienced anything quite like this. most of the magic back home was used for shadow games, and it hardly ever helped anybody. though he supposes he shouldn't say that so definitely. the magic of the millennium puzzle found him friends ( and atem ) and his life had certainly changed for the better because of them. ] I did and no. I don't really know anybody outside of my other self, Pharaoh Atem.
[ he knew some of the names she mentioned, his familiar swishing its tail to and fro and crinkling its snoot with a hiss. ] Depending on what each of the die land on he can become something different. And thanks. [ not bad? peregrin bristled, stomping a hoof as he turned his head aside. ]
True. But this place might have very well just opened Pandora's Box if you know what I mean. [ but enough talk of that. ] I'm in Aer et Calculum. What about you?

Not even if you coated your tongue in butter first would that slide off the tongue]I'm sure that must take some adjustment. [Also what a terrible thought. A world where magic was less common place. Sure, some places in Midgard would fit that bill, and not every human had a connection to the supernatural but she was an Aesir and magic was tightly interwoven into her day to day existence. Also, don't be too apologetic Yugi, there were still some Aesir that would be impressed with so little too. Like Skuld. She's an idiot though, don't be like her.
She's also practically Hel's bff so don't listen to that last statement. Hel would find the shadow games intriguing] Good. [As previously stated Hel can't stand Medjed.] I'm not familiar with Atem, I've only had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting Medjed and then later Osiris. [It's curious that Yugi called this pharaoh his ... other self] So you and this pharaoh share a connection? [Is this a Freya and Gullveig kind of deal? Does she need to look out for your other self appearing when you go to sleep Yugi? Inquiring minds need to know][Looks like your familiar could use some manners] For once, I can't think of a parallel to my world. [Which says a lot for the uniqueness of this pet] How many sides are on the die? [ If it's the standard 6 then that could lead to a myriad of combinations] Your beast might be more useful than this cloth.
.... [Pandora. Right. Should Hel know a Pandora...?
Nope] They are playing with forces they can't fully comprehend. [Apparently she was going to be in her dorm alone because no one so far shared her house. Well, she could turn it into a proper lair then] Gekronus Maius. [Least she knew where to go to retrieve the infinity cloth.] Were you headed there next..? Or did you have something else foolhardy to involve yourself in?no subject
well damn. maybe he will consider changing it. ]I don't think it'll be too bad though. Ever since I solved the Millennium Puzzle I've encountered a lot of it, though it's nothing that I could really wield. [ he couldn't cast spells, though he supposes he had his own special brand thanks to his ties with the pharaoh. maybe yugi will be able to find something from his own world to impress hel. a lot had definitely happened in his lifetime and he'd kind of been at the center of it. ] Osiris? He's one of the Egyptian Gods that's helped the Pharaoh out of countless situations. Compared to the other two gods, Obelisk and Ra, I want to say that he was the closest connection with Osiris, or Slifer as he's more commonly called back home. [ he nods. ] Y- Yeah. For the longest time he shared a body with me, his spirit having been bound to the Millennium Puzzle. But... he's gone now... He didn't belong in this world, er, my world, and he'd fulfilled his duty, so it was time to move on...
I don't think I've ever heard of such a thing either. [ aw, peregrin, don't be like that. yugi will pet him until he's relaxed himself. ] Six, and the faces are Cat, Rat, Snake, Fish, Phoenix, and ???. Because of the question marks the possibilities are endless.
You're not wrong. [ he shook his head. ] I, ah, should probably head there next, though it's not what I was originally intending. [ but then this happened so he shouldn't be running around anymore. ] H- haha. No. I think taking it easy the remainder of the day is the way to go.

At least it's under consideration]If this truly is a school, they won't expect you to hold any sort of mastery over the craft. They'll ease you into it. [Trying to stay some of his concerns about the subject. There was something about the name of that puzzle that intrigued her, it definitely sounded like a powerful artifact to have such a moniker. Perhaps, the human's lengthy tale did have it's own ups and downs. The way Yugi had stood against adversity and insurmountable odds likely would have impressed her. Especially since he was just a human.] She. [Hel corrected.] Although- I think she mentioned having been a male before. [Whatever. It doesn't really matter] I haven't met the other two, but I have a feeling I would have in time. [
Maybe not Obelisk, nor the incarnations they held in Yugi's dimension] I wouldn't know what that's like but it sounds annoying. [To share a form. Still, the way Yugi hesitated she picked up on something else.] ........ but you haven't. [To put it bluntly]I can't even fathom how a creature such as this was created. [It's so random, and the possibilities are infinite]
[Hel so no further reason to pry into his personal details. It was none of her business what he had originally planned to do] That's likely for the best until you're sure that the colored lights were the only side effect from their spells. [.... then she thought to tack on] I suppose I'll be seeing you around campus.

person god. ]I suppose that's possible. [ he taps his cheek. ] Though we'd really only seen him as a giant red dragon with two mouths... [ but, uh, yeah, there's no need to sweat the details. ] ... [ he blinks when she calls him out on it and he instinctively reaches for the chain of the puzzle that's not there and hasn't been there for some time. he swallows thickly, fingers eventually taking holds of his jacket. ] I'm trying. [ so, no, he's not. ]I don't really know either, honestly, but he's been nothing but helpful so far. [ and yugi's really taken to him. ]
Yeah, I think you're right. I can always pick up where I left off tomorrow. Thanks again, Hel, and I hope to see you around. [ he gave her a smile and headed back towards the dorms. ]

You'll ruin her image] ...... I wonder why Osiris had not mentioned such a specific detail. [Hel was mentally thinking of the two forms side by side now.] There is much we still do not know about the Gods from the other realm...... [That much she would allow. Noticing the reflex she knew she'd struck a cord] ...... I wouldn't know what that's like. In my dimension I was on a journey with others to halt Ragnarok. When that task is done, I will return to my rightful place in Helheim. [Assuming they are successful] It's just the way these things work... the wielder of the runic knife will return to their land and that noisy slob of a Valkyrie will return to Asgard. It's something I knew from the start and have accepted. I won't miss them harassing me with all these meaningless side quests... [Somewhere in there she was attempting again to let Yugi know it was natural to feel this way, but it somehow got lost in her own desire not to appear too attached to the rest of her party. In reality, she did worry about losing that odd dynamic they all shared...]The Gods of this realm must have an odd sense of humor. [... but one she could appreciate] He should serve you well.
[She gave him an nod as the two parted ways]
