March Event and Intro Log Golem On The Loose The rain never stops. Water and mud track all over campus. Diligent cleaning golems stomp about, mopping and scrubbing and polishing and then going back to do it all over again, and again, and again... One of them seems to have had it. The renegade golem bursts into Kedrigan Hall -- interrupting classes and disrupting labwork to furiously seize students and scrub every last scrap of mud and dirt off of them. All the halls have been locked off with "Under Cleaning" signs, and anyone who enters them meets with the golem's wrath, as it violently plays a pre-recorded message about not interfering with groundskeeping and deploys a giant claw-like tool to grab the interloper and put them back on unforbidden ground. The professors, who are after all completely immune to the golem's attention by its very design, seem to think this is a good learning opportunity for students. Is it? Horrible Spell Doom? "Are you sure you're ready for the test on Advanced Gaseous Discovery?" one upperclassman asks the other. "Of course I'm sure," the second says confidently. Whipping out a wand from a holster on her belt, she sweeps her wand through the air gracefully, pronouncing several Osmarian sigils as she draws them. Probably. "See, that's a blue cloud--" Said blue cloud, which puffs into being as the last syllable left her lips, abruptly doubls in size. Then it doubles in size again. And again. The upperclassmen, who have been in Diatu for several years and know exactly what this sort of thing means, don't hesitate. Not even stopping to share a glance between them, they run like crazy, leaving the growing cloud behind just as classes let out and students begin to enter the halls. But... surely it doesn't have any weird and wacky side effects, right? The Bala-inlota Parade (aka The Non-Horrible Prompt) To celebrate the start of the Bala-inlota season, Anastara spares no expense. The great parade and associated festival stretches the whole weekend, and the whole city puts on their colors and turns out for the fun. Enterprising vendors sell food, drinks, and souvenirs ranging from small and crude figurines to magical constructs that shine field displays onto flat surfaces so you can watch the action up-close! (Good luck affording that, students.) Practically any sort of entertainment you could want appears on the streets and canals of Anastara, and food and drink flow freely. Research On the Sundered With the arrival of the Sundered come those wizards engaged in research on their presence here, now set to investigate what brought them here and how to get them home. All newly-arrived Sundered students are asked to meet with representatives of the research team, to introduce themselves and relate what they will of their homes. In addition, the team requests samples of blood, hair, and skin -- carefully magically collected, and the researchers will sign in the presence of the Sundered a Glyphed contract that forbids them from using the samples for a purpose they know will be harmful. (They quite understand your reasons to be suspicious of this collection! And they will not compel anyone who refuses even given these conditions.) This month, the team has developed a Sundering spell that they warn is crude and unpolished, because the Curriculum is so unpracticed. They hope it will connect to your home worlds and establish a magical link they can build off of to open further passages. No promises! And to those who do undergo this spellwork... it has a certain side effect of confusion, as brief images from your home world flicker across your vision for a few hours afterwards. I'm in Gekronus Maius! [As if the vibrant green of his robes weren't a dead giveaway.] And it sounded right to me.

[He kind of makes a face at that.] Well. Ellyn does try, and Dad has done his best to show her some techniques, but while magic is complicated, for her, swordplay isn't that easy, either. I mean, I usually get a branch to use as a cudgel, because I chose the path of "one or the other, not both". So really, you probably had more training than Ellyn did. But enthusiasm...

[That, he shakes his head ruefully at. No one could say his sisters lacked that. Any of them.]

He didn't really mind animals either--geomancy also made them easier to understand, and Cliff was a bit sad that he'd lost that talent.

Though nothing said he couldn't help Fluttershy. Maybe if he did that he'd actually rediscover it, or find that he had some empathy towards critters naturally. Either way, he'd find that a win-win situation.

"Okay. So...you know where this place is? I only really went there once, when I met Rounder." He got to his feet slowly, and offered Fluttershy a hand up, especially since she was still a bit occupied by Blue Bunny. Said bunny seemed to be perfectly happy where she was, though, so he wasn't inclined to take her from Fluttershy.

Making sure she had a careful hold of the bunny, she accepted his help getting to her feet.

"No, not really...but I'm sure if we explain what happened to a teacher, they could point us in the right direction."

"No, no, of course you mean no harm! I know that. And of course you should come with me now! I am simply saying that it might not always be the case, eh? And that if there ever is a time that I say 'no', you should not take offense to it."

Because truly, while there were some people she could care less as to whether or not she offended them, Hendrik was not among their number. He was something close to a friend--if not a friend in fact. Yotsuyu had to admit, having never truly had one, she was still a bit unclear on the subject.

"Huh, guess we maybe ought to find a teach--wait. I'm a teacher..." Grimacing at that. "Then again, it's student teaching and nothing to do with animals, I teach gemcutting."

He'd feel worse if he did have something to do with animals and didn't know where this place was.

"Back to the drawing board then, finding a teacher!"

He nodded. "I see what you mean." And the knight hoped he hadn't offended her because that was the last thing that he'd ever want to have happen. It was just his nature sometimes and he realized that he could be overbearing. It wasn't ever meant to be in a harmful way.

"But if you are ready to leave, then I will go with you."

There, that should settle things, right?

She blinked a bit in surprise, but then smiled at his clarification. "Oh, that must be interesting. I thought about the student-teacher thing too, but I don't know if I'd be able to stand up in front of people to teach like that."

"Gemcutting's something I'm passionate about, at least. I should be used to be talking to people, but...uh, not really. Though I find it easy to talk to you."

Cliff shrugged at that, more than a little sheepish. "I did it mostly to try and keep out of my comfort zone, since I'm already out of it here."

"We should be off, then. If I spend too long thinking about it, I might change my mind." Mostly because Sundering still made her very, very nervous.

Clearly Yotsuyu wasn't very pleased at the thought of speaking to anyone researching Sundering, but she supposed she ought to at least try. But she gave Hendrik a weak smile to let him know whatever irritation she felt, it wasn't directed at him.

Hendrik shook his head. "I do not wish to see anything happen to you, so please let us be off."

Having said this, the knight held out a hand out to her. He would face down anyone or anything to protect this woman who'd been nothing but kindness to him. And if doing some research or talking to some wizards would do the trick, Hendrik would jump through any hoop.

She nodded a bit. "I can understand that. It's can be hard, being out of your comfort zone, and I think it's really brave of you to try."

[A slight tilt of her head, caught between wanting to protest that offhand assumption and not seeing much benefit in drawing attention to it. Calling what her guild had done "training" seemed a little too generous to ring entirely true, but maybe that was splitting hairs.]

She likes using it, then? Half the time I just feel like I'm gonna cut myself on accident.

[As much as indifference and general carelessness counted as an accident, anyway.]

"Oh, I truly doubt anything would happen to me, here." Save if they tried to send her home, Yotsuyu mused. She would definitely take umbrage at that. Really, Yotsuyu was not sure that Hydaelyn felt like home any more.

If it ever had, in the first place. Perhaps when she was a young girl. But now?

She accepted Hendrik's hand, rising to her feet and sliding the chair back beneath the table.

"I suppose I am leading the way, again?" It wasn't as if she had a memory for such things, Yotsuyu just was never afraid to accost a passerby for directions.

She doesn't usually get that much of a chance to--then again, she got to go on an adventure with our eldest brother, Eiros.

[Which galls him a bit, but...]

I think Ellyn likes brandishing Trouble like a giant club, more. Between that and the fact that she can basically kind of set herself on fire, I think that's scary enough, you know?

The knight was silent in regards to what Yotsuyu said about nothing happening to her here. However, an unspoken vow of protection of her person went through his head.

And her question brought him back to the present as well as the touch of her hand. These things were real and gave him solid ground in his mind.

"Ladies first." And somehow Hendrik wondered if he was going to get into trouble for saying that, but it was out there now.

"Hmph." Maybe, but Yotsuyu only narrowed her eyes at him, and then preceded him out of the library.

"You know, we might miss them, if they are still involved with Bala-Inlota," she said quietly. She hadn't thought of that before they had left the library, it was too late now, though.

"Still, I suppose we could always leave them a note if we must. I am certain they'd get back to us, since they are so very interested in we Sundered."

Well, that went over a lot easier than he'd thought it would, so the knight was more than happy to simply follow behind Yotsuyu.

"I do not mind, but we will not find anything out, should we not go." Which was true, as the saying went 'nothing ventured nothing gained'.

And Hendrik's eyes slid over to her as she said the bit about being interested in the Sundered. It was on the tip of his tongue to say something but he refrained and sighed, moving his eyes forward.

She noticed that look, glancing at him and arching a brow. "Is there something wrong?"

Yotsuyu had never allowed them to do their research on her, despite their assurances. Trust was just a commodity that she did not trade in easily--which spoke a bit, considering she had let Hendrik fairly close, fairly swiftly.

Then again, knights were like samurai--usually faithful to a fault and beyond reproach, and so far, Hendrik was no different. Which was no bad thing, she mused.

Ok so she had caught that, but Hendrik wasn't going to worry her. He'd just have to be more careful. "No, there is nothing wrong." And since the two of them were in one piece and no one was attacking them, there was nothing wrong, except that he was determined.

The knight would be faithful to his words, to protect Yotsuyu and to keep her safe no matter what the personal cost to himself, it was just that simple.
