What: It's a very bad day.

When: Immediately following his Discovery of what the Deathtoll card does.

[ yugi had stayed overnight in purifuel, but at the crack of dawn decided to head back to his own dorm, because one, he didn't want to get caught and two, he needed some time to himself. that's part of the reason he hadn't planned on going to class, but the distraction might be welcome. maybe. he's not really sure he's going to be able to focus on anything but how terrible a person he is for using that stupid card. he smothers his face with his hands, trying to keep it together, which is difficult when he's exhausted and guilt ridden. ]

[ could today get any worse? ]

... [ grabs his belt and straps it in place, reaching for his deck and shuffling with flourish. he's not looking forward to this. he hasn't been looking forward to these foil clashes. he had hoped this game would be different from duel monsters, but... ]

Orisa... did something happen to you, t- to everybody... [ he doesn't think he'll get an answer. he hasn't gotten any answers, but it's worth a shot, right? ] ... [ he's almost got to laugh, because this is ridiculous, but he takes her cards and shuffles them like he would his own, handing them back to her. ] Let's take this outside. We shouldn't wake anybody else up because you need to foil clash me...

[Succeed at all costs. That is her directive here. But that didn't mean she had to be rude to others, did it?]

[Turning, she squeezes through the door back out to the staircase, then hustles down that at a fair clip. The sooner she wins, the sooner she'll be the hero she's supposed to be!]

[ he sighs. he's so freaking tired, but that doesn't matter apparently. he's doomed to be playing this game until he just drops dead from exhaustion. he follows her outside and then draws his hand. ]

Challenger goes first, Orisa. Let's clash!

Welcome to the City of Splendors!

[Tossing down a card, Orisa transforms the battlefield into a shimmering paradise that... looks a lot like Anastara, there may be some bias in this card's creation.]

I hope your cards are prepared to obey all relevant laws!

... [ he blinks, staring at the sudden change of scenery. ] All the relevant laws? [ oh... boy... ]

[ he's going to have to be careful. ]

[Orisa throws her arms wide.]

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha!

[Then her hand descends thunderously, slamming down a card.] Noan Guard, invoked! End of turn!

[ he's just going to... stare. orisa has easily been the strangest encounter and that's saying a lot, especially when they're only a few minutes in, if even. ]

[ he frowns at his hand, summoning a creature with high defense, and then promptly ending his turn. ]

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! Noan Guard, PLAYER FOILCLASH! Your Foil does not have the proper permit to perform defensive work in this city!

[As the Guard attacks, Orisa invokes a Street-Blocking Cart for defense.]

Turn over!

And yours doesn't have the right permits to attack mine! Not when I activate this! [ a forcefield appears to prevent the attack despite the fact that her monster was forced into attack position. ] This forcefield prevents five attacks and that was one!

[Orisa flings up her fist, shaking it at Yugi.]

PROFANITY FILTER ENABLED! But this isn't over yet!

No, it's not, and I don't plan on losing!

[ since her turn has come to an end he's going to summon another, similar monster, and when the two magnet warriors are on the field they connect and bolster each other's stats - defensive and offensive. ]

Now I activate Deathtoll. [ as the card is played a tower rises up behind him and the bell will toll with each monster sacrificed. ]

I play two more cards face down and end my turn.

HA HA HA HA HA HA! AH HA HA HA HA HA! You have behaved precisely as my predictive combat algorithms have predicted!

[Orisa slams down a card, hard enough that the force of the impact makes her cape billow back.]

Behold! Fantastic Foils Ultimate Monster: The Great Mage of the City!

[The tall wizened figure that looks a Merlin-style mage and not like anyone around here rises up out of the ground, then taps his staff against the illusory streets. A shining shield surrounds each of the foils on the field.]

So long as this Foil is invoked, no other card made be destroyed or removed! Your efforts to use Deathtoll cannot succeed if you cannot remove it or destroy your monsters! Now, two cards in reserve, and I pass!

...! [ he can't help stare as the wizard materializes. not so much because of its effect, but the ultimate monster? he'd through deathtoll had been the ultimate card, but he supposes there are others. ]

If you think I need Deathtoll to crush you, then you're wrong. [ he summons a third monster, the three of them interlocking and forming a large fortress, which immediately activates one of the face down cards he'd played. another, secondary, barrier appears beneath the other one, which has a bunch of different effects that he's not going to invoke until the first is destroyed. ]

If you think you can get to me, then think again! [ two more cards are played face down and yugi ends his turn with a smirk. ]

Hiding behind walls? Unworthy, Yugi! But walls do not mean a thing when one can go beneath them! I invoke Giant Sewer Rat!

[The card hits the playing field, and the monstrous beast squeals at Yugi before darting into a storm drain.]

So long as the City is in play, the Rat will drain your life each turn! No barrier shall save you! HA HA HA HA HA! AH HA HA HA HA HA HA! End turn!

[ yugi frowns, trying to come up with some sort of a strategy, though he's got no cards to help out right now. he continues to bolster his defensive offense, but it's as she said, she can sneak around. he takes the hit to his life this turn, putting another card face down and ending his turn. ]

You'll have to do better than that.

Better? Every advantage is mine! Your weak deck has no answers for my city, and Deathtoll is useless to you! AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

[Orisa augments her defenses with another Guard, then turns it back to Yugi. Let him suffer a loss without her needing to do anything more, then!]

I said it before and I'll say it again I don't need Deathtoll to win! But something is going on and he seems to be the only thing that's making you people less crazy!

[ he activates his first face down card, a bounce spell, which will take her rat pack and send it back at her, so she suffers the damage instead, but doubled. ] I'm not going to let you win. [ the next card he activates is a meteor that crashes into the city, cutting all of the monsters on the field's attack and defense in half. the ground on his side of the field starts to crumble and fall apart, giving way to an enormous bone dragon. it roars, shaking the entire area, the attack and defense points funneled into it and making it strong. ]

I'm going to end this, Orisa. I hope you're ready. [ and he activates his final facedown, a card called blow for blow. ] This allows the strongest monsters on each side of our field to attack a player directly. I might take damage, but I'll still be in the game. You, meanwhile, are about to lose!

What?! Blow for Blow?! How could you have that card?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

[The attacks come through, despite all the protections, and Orisa flings her arms wide.]

SYSTEM ERROR!

[KATHUD. The omnic hits the ground heavily, enough that the earth shivers beneath Yugi.]

I told you I wouldn't lose, Orisa. Deathtoll wasn't a crutch. I never needed him to win. I just... thought... [ but it doesn't matter. when she hits the ground he stumbles backward, waiting for the monsters and playing field to disappear before he runs over. ] Orisa? Are you okay? [ are you feeling more like yourself? ]

[Orisa is silent and still for a moment -- then makes a series of artificial noises, vaguely cheery sounding ones at that, as her eyeshields swivel open again.]

Orisa online.

... [ he kneels down alongside her and frowns, reaching out and giving her a teeny tiny shake. when she makes the noises and suddenly opens her eyes again yugi falls on his butt and skitters backward. ] -! [ he clutches his chest and expels a breath of relief. ] Orisa! You're okay!

System operations are within normal parameters. My apologies, Yugi! I was not properly responding to my programming!

[Orisa sounds... excited about this? Delighted, even? Not that she is glad she tormented him.]

[ HE IS VERY CONFUSED. ]

I, ah, kind of... figured...

My database is fully operational. Ha ha, I certainly did like to laugh while I was challenging you!

[She puts a hand to where her mouth ought to be, making a little electronic noise that sounds like a giggle.]

[ his expression softens and he smiles. ]
