What: It's a very bad day.

When: Immediately following his Discovery of what the Deathtoll card does.

[ yugi had stayed overnight in purifuel, but at the crack of dawn decided to head back to his own dorm, because one, he didn't want to get caught and two, he needed some time to himself. that's part of the reason he hadn't planned on going to class, but the distraction might be welcome. maybe. he's not really sure he's going to be able to focus on anything but how terrible a person he is for using that stupid card. he smothers his face with his hands, trying to keep it together, which is difficult when he's exhausted and guilt ridden. ]

[ could today get any worse? ]

No. I know exactly what I want and how to get it.

[ Now she's on her way! She smirks and draws her hand, immediately laying a trap. Oh, how she loves taking control of her opponents' creatures. ]

Tell me, Yugi, do you know how it feels to lose everything?

You only think you do.

[ he summons a pair of identical monsters and lays a card face down. ]

I do, actually. [ when he lost atem and more recently when he lost kaiba. ] I’ve lost it all, twice, and I’m afraid you’re not the only one that thinks I’m undeserving... [ he bows his head briefly. ] But that doesn’t mean I’m going to roll over and give up, especially to the likes of you! If you want the win, then prove yourself worthy of it. [ he sends his monsters to attack. ]

Ooh, bad move. Sorry, not sorry about it.

[ Yup, she had a trap ready for that. But she doesn't seem to see the bigger picture here. Continue preparing to crush her, Yugi. ]

Fine. I'll prove myself far , and I won't be denied anymore! Haha!

[ She sends her next round of monsters. ]

[ when she takes control of one of his monsters he doesn't seem the least bit concerned. he takes the direct hit from her monsters, because on his turn he's going to turn this around. ]

[ letting her think she's got the upper hand is an easy way to lull her into a false sense of security too. he doesn't play a monster just yet, and instead flips over death toll as well as another card that immediately shoots crack straight through the middle of the battlefield, and as the ground crumbles away all of their monsters tumble in. ]

[ the souls of all of the monsters go onto the death toll card as an enormous bone dragon climbs its way out of the crevice. it roars, shaking the immediately area as it spreads its wings and fills the field with a vile poison that'll effect any and all monsters played for the remainder of the game. ]

[ four souls... one more to go. it's not that he plays a monster, one that immediately can't take the poison - it's attack and defense cut in half. next turn it'll be dead, but for now he'll have his dragon attack her, and then he'll lay another card face down and end his turn. ]

I'm sorry, Sunset, but I can't let you win.

[ Sunset's evil grin stretches her face. ]

I'm almost disappointed in you, Yugi. Done already?

[ And she's just gonna jump right into that trap there, cackling. ]

Disappointed in me? Why?

[ he asks just before she throws herself at him. ]

Oh, I don't know...just that I expected more from someone who talks so big.

[ She's still laughing. That won't be long. ]

[ he just shakes his head, his monsters obliterating hers and causing the final soul to ignite deathtoll. the bells sound and yugi's expression turns to something darker as he releases them, several spirits from the card shooting out and through sunset to relieve her of, well, what probably be her own soul were she not possessed. instead, it's going to take that. ]

[ There's a horrible shriek filling the air. What is happening? Whatever it is disappears in a puff of smoke, and Sunset falls forward---she's not unconscious, though. Just exhausted, and she looks from the cards up to Yugi with a glazed-over expression. ]

...what? Did...huh?

[ She looks at the chaos and a spark of memory from before all this hits her. There's a cold feeling of dread in her heart. ]

I went full she-demon, didn't I? I don't expect you to believe me, but I am so sorry.

... [ he really doesn't have anything to say. ] I need to go. [ she can offer an explanation and an apology later, but there are more people coming to look for him, coming to challenge him, and he'd like to put some space in between them, so he can maybe get some rest. he's tired. he hates this. and he'd really just like to be left alone, but... but that's not going to happen... sadly... ]
