Discussion of dancing with Xion

Xion would find Lea sitting on a bench under a tree, sketching something on a pad of paper. He'd look at it, frown thoughtfully, then erase a bit and redo it until he was satisfied. It was still a little while til sunset, but he was always up for a little chat.

As a rule, Lea was generally a fairly light sleeper. So it was hardly surprising that he was occasionally woken up by Xion slipping out of bed in the middle of the night. However, he usually fell right back to sleep afterwards, and since she was always back in the morning, he assumed that she was just getting up to use the bathroom or something and thought no more of it.

However, this particular night he found himself unable to get back to sleep after being wakened by Xion's nocturnal stroll and started to get concerned when she didn't return after a few minutes. Then more concerned when about a half hour had passed and she still wasn't back.

So this time, when Xion did return, she would find her friend sitting up in bed, apparently waiting for her.

It would take her a while. Night wasn't exactly the easiest time to hunt for shells on the beach, and she was always careful not to get caught or to wake anyone. So she was startled when she saw Axel sitting up as she snuck back into the dorm.

He would have seen her quietly edge the door closed behind her before she turned and froze, seeing him. Then she put whatever she had been holding into her pocket and lowered her hood before walking over as quietly as she could, a small smile on her face. Part of her was always afraid that when she left for the shell, that she would come back to find Axel gone. That she would be alone again.

Lea, on the other hand, wasn't smiling. In the dim light, he saw her slip something into her pocket, but couldn't tell what it was. Presumably it had something to do with why she'd snuck out.

"Welcome back," he said, keeping his voice down since most of the rest of the dorm was still asleep. "Now would you mind telling me why you were sneaking out in the middle of he night to begin with?"

She stopped smiling and frowned, confused. He was upset...? Why? With her? She walked over closer so they wouldn't wake anyone and sat beside him. "I always go out at night," she said, softly. "Am I not allowed to?" was that why he was upset. Had she broken a rule? Was... was she going to be in trouble?

"Yeah I think it actually is usually against the rules for students to be out running around the school after a certain time of night," Lea said. "But that's not the point. It's more the fact that you were sneaking off and not telling me about it. Up til now, I've thought you were just getting up to go to the bathroom or something when I heard you getting up in the middle of the night, since you were always back before I woke up in the morning. But when I woke up again like an hour later tonight, you were still gone, and I had no idea where you were or what was going on, so I was worried."

She looked confused, but also devastated. "I didn't realize I was waking you," she whispered, sitting on the edge of her bed. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."

Aw, don't look like that, Xion. He can't stay upset when you look like that.

Lea sighed, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly. "It's OK," he said. "You didn't know, like you said. Just don't do it any more, OK?"

"Though what were you sneaking off for anyway?", he said. "Seems like a really weird time to run an errand or something."

"But... I can't stop yet," she said softly. I can let you know when I'm going, if you want. But...." she reached into her pocket and pulled out the shell she had just collected. "For Roxas," she said softly, knowing he'd understand why. That's he'd understand this was when she got the shells for the bed.

"That's why you've been sneaking out every night?" Lea asked. "To get one seashell?" He had of course noticed the growing collection of seashells on the spare bed next to hers and understood the significance, but had assumed she'd gotten them ahead of time. "Why not just get a bunch of them in one trip? It'd definitely let you get more sleep, and then you could just add one to the bed every day."

"Though come to think of it," he said, "where have you been finding them in a floating city anyway?"

"Because.... if he comes what do I do with all the extras?" Besides, it was more special if she went out for each one, wasn't it? "It's not close, but it is really nice there at night. Once Roxas shows up we can all spend a day on the beach together. Right?"

Lea shrugged. "I dunno," he said. "You could do lots of things with them. Start a collection of your own, make them into arts and crafts projects, give them out to other people, or even just take them back where you found them and leave them for someone else to find later."

"Point is, however nice it is there, you can't just keep sneaking out every night," he said. "Eventually somebody's gonna catch you and you'll get in trouble." Though really, that might help with her fears that being in trouble would mean being turned into a Dusk, so he probably wouldn't push that too hard.

"Why... would I get in trouble for this, though?" she asked softly. "I'm not missing missions or anything important for it."

"Because it's against the rules," Lea said. "And it's not always safe to go out late at night, especially without telling anyone where you're going. I mean yeah, one of us'd probably be fine if someone tried to mug us or something, but most people wouldn't. So they have to make rules that apply to everyone."

She looked down at her gloves. "But I need to collect them for Roxas. So he knows that we waited for him."

"Then you can do like I said and get a good number of them at once, then do something else with the extras once he arrives," Lea said. "Or you could try and find a time to get them that's not in the middle of the night. I mean it's not like going to get a seashell is some big super-secret thing that needs to be done under cover of darkness, or anything. Maybe between sunset and bedtime? Given when you left and got back, there should be enough time for you to get back before lights out."

"If I got too many at once I might lose count," she said softly. "But I guess I could go after ice cream. I just don't like going during the day, there are too many people there." Too many Somebodies.

"If you wanted, I could hold onto the extras for you," Lea suggested. "That way you could just ask me for one every day and it'd be a lot harder to lose count."

"But yeah, if you don't want to do that, heading out after ice cream is probably your best bet. And will probably be less of a hassle than sneaking around after dark."

Now she was torn. She wanted to let Axel help if he wanted to, but this was also something she wanted to do for Roxas. But.. Roxas was his best friend first. So... "Do you want to help with the shells?" she asked, trying to figure out if he really did want to or was just saying so for her sake.

"Sure," Lea said shrugging slightly. "Roxas is my best friend too, after all, so it's only fair that I get to get in on it somehow."

"Though right now, what we should both probably be doing is getting back to bed," he said. "Morning starts way too early for my taste, and it won't wait for us just cause we were up late."

She gave a small nod. "Alright," she said softly. "But Axel?" she asked as she climbed onto the bed, "If no one here is going to turn us into a Dusk for not doing our jobs, is sleeping longer really so bad?" Asked the girl who spent almost a quarter of her life comatose....

"It is when it makes us miss breakfast," Lea said. "And when my first class of the day is one that I actually learn something useful in."

"Anyway, g'night again, Xion," he said, settling back into his own bed. "We'll go find thos shells tomorrow after ice cream."

She really didn't care about breakfast. Or classes. But she cared about Axel, as best something like her could. So she nodded and settled in to sleep.
