[ saya had made a point to stick her nose in a little bit of this and that in the hopes that she could learn a little bit more about this place. it paid off in the form of a rumor. hm, well, kind of. she overheard a couple talking about a building in the mayoral district, something she would have brushed off, if not for having also heard that it only appears at night. how fucken peculiar. but, then again, she's in the magical land of not!make-believe, so she supposes she better get used to the unusual, since it's going to be the norm. but back to the rumor! it wasn't anything particularly ground breaking, but because it was the only nugget of information she had gotten during her hours spend eavesdropping she was going to take advantage. ]

[ when night fell and her roommates were getting ready to turn in she crossed the room and plonked down on the end of seto's bed. ] Kaiba~kun~ [ she looked up at him with a devious smile. ] You're not doing anything tonight, right, because I could really use your help with something... [ she's keeping her discovery on the down low for now, since it could be a whole lot of nothing. but, if it's not, then the two of them will have a chance to learn something new about this place that they can later share. maybe; if they're feeling generous (*>艸<) ]

[But she has his attention, as he's already reaching for his ridiculous white coat. Sara, for her part, purrs contentedly and allows Saya to approach. She likes the woman's ability to keep her charge on his toes.]

[ she scoots closer, since she's not trying to tell the world, her hand coming to rest gently atop sara's head for some pets. ]

Well, for one thing, it only appears at night. [ she smirks. ] Interesting enough for you, Kaiba~?

[On second thought, he hangs the coat back up and reaches instead for a standard black cloak. It's not tailored to his liking, he'll have to take care of that later, but he'll draw less attention.]

The explanation is bound to be nonsense, but I believe we can puzzle it out.

[And sure enough, he's ready to go, giving her time for one or two more pets before offering his arm to Sara. She scampered up to his shoulder, well-used to this routine.]

[ saya stands from her spot on his bed and stifles a snicker as she stops by her own to call her own familiar. he'd taken the form of a bat for this particular expedition, so he's already ready to go. ] I'm sure the explanation is magic related. [ though there's bound to be a few more interesting details to be found. ] There's got to be a reason it only appears at night though... and who knows what sort of secrets it could be hiding~.

I almost regret not shaking down the couple for more answers, but I probably shouldn't have been eavesdropping to start. [ she folds her arms behind her head as they traverse the courtyard and head for the second ring. ] And at night is a little vague. [ here's to hoping the damn thing didn't just appear between 11:45 and 11:46 or something equally stupid. ]

[He nods his agreement as they walk...it's a quiet town at night, which isn't surprising, but in all the old stories the strangest magic occurred at night.

Not that he was one to pay attention to stories. Though maybe he should have.]

[If they have to come again during the day and figure out which building isn't normally there he's going to be very cross.]

Exactly. [ it's kind of eerie at night, and though she could have just as easily gone herself to investigate the strange happening she's glad she asked kaiba to come along. she hadn't come this far out yet, so this area was still relatively new to her. ]

No, but that's what we have Bonesy for. [ he was perched on her shoulder, but the moment she mentioned his name her perked up. saya gave him a nod and he took off. ] He's going to take a quick look around and let us know if he sees anything strange. I don't think we'll have to wait long.

[ bonesy is gone for longer than she would have liked, so kaiba might notice her starting to get worried. eventually though, he comes back, seemingly exhausted from having looked around. ] Did you find anything? I didst, and t's not too far, but thee might wanteth to hie. t looks unstable. Unstable? [ she exchanges a glance with seto and takes off running, though she's brought to an abrupt stop when they reach the square, the spectral building coming into view and just... wtf. ] It looks like we found it...

[Seto can understand the worry. How did he come to empathize so quickly? He taps his arm, trying to bite back the sarcasm for just a minute longer when they finally get an answer.

He's right on her heels, staring at...it's an apparition. Almost like one of his holograms, but far less solid.]

It looks like anyone would phase right through it. Like a reflection from elsewhere, or an incomplete hologram...or...

... [ she frowns, because he's got a point. ] Approaching it is probably a bad idea, because who knows what'll happen if we completely destablize the damn thing. [ when he mentions a reflection she turns to look over her shoulder, giving the area around them a scrutinizing look. ] I doubt it's a hologram, at least not one of the technical variety. [ try magical. ]

[ she cautiously takes a step closer, but she's still mindful of the space between herself and the building. ] So what the hell should we do? It's not like Abracadabra is going to do anything.

No, and we have one day of classes under our belts, which is hardly enough time to learn anything. All we learned was a magical detection spell...in the end, after a few mishaps.

[Which wouldn't help much.]

If the building disappeared when people approached it, that would've been mentioned, right? Maybe there's something we're not seeing from here.

[ that would have probably come in handy if they had come here during the day when the magic anomaly wasn't staring them in the face. ]

Not necessarily. They could have merely just seen it, decided to leave it alone, and then talk about it among themselves. I mean, it's definitely a possibility that it was approached, but I didn't hear anything about it. [ she nods, deciding to see if she can't walk around it. ] Agreed. Why don't you go the other way and we'll meet on the other side? like, maybe there's only a part of it that would be solid enough to enter.

All right. I'll see you on the other side.

[He takes off, feeling somewhat ill at ease as he does so, and looks high and low. The glow is eerie in this low light.]

Any clues?

No, nothing. [ and she meets him on the other side. ] I doubt the building is empty, so maybe we could just kind of... ask if somebody or something could let us in? It's worth a shot, [ she shrugs. ] At least before we try to run straight into this thing.

[ so she'll walk around to the front to give that a shot. ] ... [ and she's going to feel like an idiot talking to what's basically a ghost building, but whatever. ] Hello? Is anybody home? If so, we'd like to come inside and... [ uhhhh. ] talk. This is definitely an interesting building you've got here. [ ow, my dignity. ]

[Ow, her dignity. His cringe probably can't be qualified as sympathetic, but he might as well go all in with her.]
