October Event Log

Visitors

Visitors from other Magicademies aren't uncommon, of course. Diatu is home not only to the Sundered and their arrival, but also a dragon, the legacies of Anastara Diatu, Headmaster Birony, and that place that serves chili. It is uncommon for them to all show up in matching black robes like they just stalked out of a warlock convention, but then again, Diatu Magicademy has long since lost any idea of what normal behavior is.

They bring an artifact, which apparently is draconic in nature, and to that extent, they ask to speak to Professor Ire regarding it. Naturally, the good Professor agrees, joining them on the Walk.

Within one second of his arrival, golden chains of magic lash around his neck -- one from each of the visitors, who then begin to tighten them.

Warcry

Ire's roar is not subtle, nor is the way it chokes off. Within moments, pandemonium reins.

For those brave souls who wish to engage the foreign wizards, know this: they are powerful, strangely so, with an odd force behind their spells and defenses that explains how they are strong enough to corral a dragon. They show no emotion, they feel no pain, and they will not let their attack on Ire fade for a second. But this is their weakness: much of their power is bound up in that attack. Their focus is primarily on the dragon, and so they do not defend themselves by simply slaying all who oppose them. They have one mission and one mission only.

They have assistance, though. One of them has opened a portal, allowing hordes of devilish imps to run loose, heedless of the damage they might cause. These imps are sharp-toothed, sharp-clawed, and terribly quick, and they desire only to hurt and kill. Of course, the students of Diatu Magicademy are no cowards, and no pushovers; spells fly in response, explosions fill the air and singe hair off those too close, and the battle is sudden chaos worsening every minute as more imps pour out of the portal and more students race from every corner of the campus to join the fray.

Tilt

Where the hell is Headmaster Birony? Shouldn't she be deus ex machina-ing these situation like the absurdly-powerful wizard that she is, all evidence aside?

That question receives a partial answer when the entire island of Ascelion drops six feet straight down.

The drop is faster than gravity, as if something is in fact trying to pull the island down -- which means all people and all things upon it fall slower than it descends. The impact that comes when the island suddenly stops, and stops its inhabitants a moment later, is bone-jarring. Items shatter and snap across the island, canals overtop their channels and pour water onto the streets, bruises and sprains and breaks from the sudden blow are not the worst injuries inflicted.

Then the island begins to lurch about like a Valhudor student after five straight days of partying, spinning and twisting and jerking around in midair. Students tumble to the ground in droves, exposing themselves to the imps as the tide of battle suddenly shifts. And shifts somewhat back, as the Professors arrive on scene, their powerful magics making up for the loss of support from the students.

Tumbling, pitching, tilting, whirling, but the battle rages on still. Run away or fight, or simply try to help however you can...

Slow and Steady Victory

The dragon wizard Grieve accounted for almost everything. His magic, which humans would call Dictation, has rendered his human puppets strong and powerful. His scheme to unleash imps on the grounds has kept the students and faculty from focusing on freeing his victim. His assault on Ascelion itself keeps that meddling Headmaster occupied. Yes, the resistance has proven stronger than expected, but he is certain he will win!

Grieve did not account for two things. First, Diatu is a ridiculous place. And second, he forgot that the Magicademy has one more sets of defenders.

First one imp dies, cut in half by a sword stroke too swift for the eye. Then another, impaled by a spear which withdraws like the flick of an eyelash. Then a third, smashed ruthlessly as if by a giant's fist.

Three allies arrive, to turn the tide: Ballet the Land Whale, wielding her sword; Tango the Land Dolphin, master of the spear; and Waltz the Land Wholphin, coming into her own as a student of the warhammer. With their ability to swim through the ground effortlessly, the cetaceans can strike at the imps from surprise and safety, which is all the forces of Diatu Magicademy need to begin pushing back! If you want to take out a wizard, close the portal, or sever the spells that bind Ire, now is the time to do it!

Recovery

The battle is won. Not without cost.

The wizards have been taken into custody, though it's probably futile; when the dragon's magic released their minds, they were only confused and baffled at their situations. They likely remember nothing.

Ire is all right. Despite the pain of the attack, he's honestly touched that the school rallied to his defense.

But the students, the Magicademy, the city -- all of them have suffered from being shaken like the fruit pieces inside a gelatin getting slapped. Injuries, some critical, and property damage, often extensive, spread out in waves.

That was a pretty rough time of it. But at least now you can breathe.

    Right?

    RIGHT?!

"I mean love him, stupid." He barely had the word for it. He stopped. Had to. Had so little strength left in him even if they were almost there. He rested his head against the other's, wheezing.

"I'm glad ...you're here."

Love...

Him...

Crowley's wings bristled as he couldn't... He did, but no... It wasn't something they did. They were friends and that had taken them centuries to work up to. The rest... no. Aziraphale wasn't interested and Crowley wouldn't even know where to begin when it came to loving anyone.
Even if he secretly already did.

"Shuddup! You're talking crazy like you are actually going to die."

The nurse's office was just right ahead. Crowley could make out the outline of it just over the top of the neatly trimmed hedge and if those nurses couldn't do anything for Alec then he could. Oh, there were rules against using miracles to save humans but he had never met a rule he couldn't break.

"Must be getting delirious or something..."

Which would explain the desire for a cuddle feeling he was picking up on here.

"'s no great loss..." With that half delirious mutter he listed forward, lost to the world though not quite beyond help. He didn't want to go, not really, not so stupidly, not having done anything-- But if he could have just brought them a little closer together, at least that would be something.

Humans. They were literally only about five meters away from the front door of the nurse's station and now was when he decided to take a nap?! All that nonsense advice was shoved into Crowley's proverbial back pocket, to be unpacked or dutifully ignore later, as he hefted Alec from his swoon and carried the bastard inside.

"On you toes ladies," He barked into the office just as a male nurse came round the corner forcing a quick amendment, "And... gentlemen. We've got one injured human male idiot, likely having a heart attack, who could use some magical healing."

And Alec was unconscious so it wasn't like he could say no to it. This clearly had become a surrogate decision-maker situation which meant family... which to Crowley meant it was up to him. Consequences to be dealt with later.

The male nursing student on staff quickly took over from Crowley, not so gently taking Alec from his arms and seeing him into one of the side rooms for the Doctor on staff to have a better look at. They moved quickly given the urgency of the situation leaving Crowley to attempt to peek into the room over shoulders.

Alec woke a couple of hours later in a comfortable bed with a rather stern faced nurse presiding over him. His arm had been put in a cast, fingers already swelling and purplish and he felt groggy and disturbingly hollow.

The nurse told him in no uncertain terms he was not allowed to leave the bed until at least tomorrow and that she had left instructions with his friend. Alec nodded mutely, having no other choice and stared up at the ceiling, wondering who this supposed friend is and the name of the train that had hit him.

In life there were temptations and then there were TEMPTATIONS. It had taken everything in him not to draw a big obnoxious design all over that cast while its owner was asleep... but it hadn't saved Alec from a signature and a little caricature of himself getting booted in the rear by a familiar looking demon. You can thank him for the artwork later, wine is acceptable.

"Thought for a minute you wouldn't be awake when I had to leave. The fighting is getting too close. Imps. They would tear this place apart."

He would notice later. Right now he squinted at Anthony... Crowley...whoever, surprised to see him here.

"Fell is not going to know if you didn't hang around. I'm not going to tell him." And then his brain caught up. "Where are you going?"
serpentinthegarden: (What if there was no boy)

"Huh?"

Alec was still high on meds, had to be. Crowley's brow knit together briefly, until Alec started making some sense.

"The imps. Some one has to deal with them and who better than a demon?"

He had a plan! One that formed itself brilliantly while waiting for Alec to recover enough to wake up. You find the portal the imps and coming through and go to the other side. Once it was closed, no more imps! Simple! Though he didn't say this out loud. One didn't go around blabbing their plans.

"You look like shit but are you feeling any better?"

"No. I feel like shit..." He rested a hand against his chest absently, massaging it though there was no need to. "Pretty sure I should have died. Stupid."

He wasn't going to pursue Fell if Anthony was going to be stubborn about it.

"You're not much of a demon, you know. Or do you expect my soul in return? It's not much of one I have to warn you." A faint smile.
serpentinthegarden: (Calm plotting)

[personal profile] serpentinthegarden 2021-10-18 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
He would love to pursue Fell but not as a topic of conversation. He was too worried and too likely to say something really stupid... The last thing he needed was some poorly thought out but heartfelt sentiment slipping out and making its way back to Aziraphale.

He wasn't much of a demon...

Crowley kept his expression very schooled, trying to betray himself as little as possible.

"You'll need to hang on to that for a while."

Since Alec wasn't dying anytime soon.
scotch_egg: (mild surprise)

[personal profile] scotch_egg 2021-10-18 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Aye? Saving it for later?" He signed a bit, then reached out, wanting to touch him but not quite breaching the distance. "Thank you. For whatever reason you did it. I owe you."
serpentinthegarden: (Listening)

[personal profile] serpentinthegarden 2021-10-18 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Midnight snack."

Not really but as Alec's hand reached out into the distance between them Crowley felt the need to say something shocking. He had seen sick humans before and he had been in situations where humans had reached out for him but... they had never been family.

Alec looked so frail and in need of comforting. The pills the doctor had given him earlier were taken from a pocket and pressed into that outstretched hand but Crowley allowed their fingers to touch and his hand to rest over Alec's.

"The instructions are on the bottle. I've been told that if you will take these then these attacks won't happen like this."
scotch_egg: (so tired)

[personal profile] scotch_egg 2021-10-23 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
He huffed a breath and squinted at the bottle. Without his reading glasses he couldn't make it out very well, but then he hadn't had reading glasses in a while. Of course they were nothing that Anthony Crowley would ever need. Or Fell for that matter.

"What short straw did you pull to have to look after such a wreck. I did this to myself, you know." Or something like that. Or so he thought. Stress lead to it. Stress from a failure of a job badly done. Or maybe something he had done or hadn't in the other world. Whichever was real.

"Still, I've got about a year left if Whitley was right unless I can make it last somehow. Long enough to make a sort of difference."
serpentinthegarden: (Show off)

[personal profile] serpentinthegarden 2021-10-23 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Only Fell had reading glasses. They were mostly for show, humans who dealt in books had reading glasses so naturally people trying to look like humans who dealt in books needed a pair. But it was all play acting. A pair of celestials or occultist... depending on whom you asked, trying to fit into a world they were never really meant to exist in.

Death was an interesting concept. Humans died. Happened all the time, every day in fact. Crowley had even had good friends who were humans 'pass on'. He himself felt a touch detached from the idea. His people didn't die. They could be discorporated or even destroyed, but was that the same thing? You went from being there to being gone...

"You gave yourself a heart arrhythmia?"

They were a little medically backwards here but their magical medicine was able to tell the staff that much. Crowley frowned at the rest, taking it in and not really liking a bit of it.

"Doctor here made it sound like there was a treatment for that."
scotch_egg: (exhausted)

[personal profile] scotch_egg 2021-10-25 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
"I didn't help it at any rate." He shook his head and rattled the pills. "All I need is to get me through til the end. Beyond that... Doesn't really matter." He let out a long breath. "I won't take up anymore of your time." He was sure Crowley had somewhere better to be. Or at least someone more interesting to talk to.

[personal profile] serpentinthegarden 2021-10-25 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
He did! He had tons of people more interesting to talk to! Only he didn't really... That just would have been his reaction if he had realized he was being dismissed so casually. He was being dismissed, this he knew, but the rest of that hadn't been said out loud so Alec only received a faint look that might have been a pout if Crowley hadn't been trying to retain some measure of coolness.

"Yeah, people to see, places to go..."

Portals to hop though. He shot a wave over his shoulder as he exited the room.

"Rest up before death day."
