Valhudor Tower
He didn't arrive with more than the clothes on his back, so it doesn't take Ronstadt long to set up in Room 911... though he's amused that the tower's dorm numbering is a bit haphazard. He makes the hike up to the common room at the top of the tower, and proceeds to be absolutely awed by the ceiling, flopping down in one of the comfortable chairs. Once he's daydreamed long enough, he heads back down to explore, stopping in the entrance hall to look over the memorabilia and get vaguely distracted by the Bala-Inlota trophies and case. Mostly because he doesn't know what the heck any of it means.
Dining Hall
It had been a while since his last meal - a whole world, even - so Ronstadt's stomach led him to the Dining hall, where he was pleased and amazed to find that there was already plenty of food to choose from, and he didn't have to order anything or try to figure out what things were on a menu. As he filled a plate with what were hopefully homefries, a few sausage patties, and ... well, they looked like scrambled eggs, even if the color was a little odd ... he glanced over at whoever was closest by.
"You don't suppose the chefs here can manage anything resembling a chalupa?"
Kedrigan Hall
Stomach full, properly hydrated with some sort of iced tea, Ronstadt decided to try and figure out where his classes were. It had been a long time since he'd been to anything even vaguely resembling school, and even those memories were... Let's just say he wasn't sure he could rely on them well. Learning magic had been high on his list before he'd even arrived, so he was determined to not screw this up. And he had enough memories of being abysmally late for classes because he couldn't remember where he was supposed to be, or had gotten lost, or what have you. Armed with the map he'd been issued, he crossed the grounds to Kedrigan hall, checking his watch to see how long it would take him to get from point A to point B.
Unfortunately, the sheer amount of magic in the place tripped his Craydar before he was even ten yards from the front door, and he wrapped an arm around his stomach, gritting his teeth with a groan as the presence of so much magic hit him. Every blood cell in his veins felt like it was tingling, and he lowered his head, closing his eyes. The last time he'd felt something even a fraction of this strength, his eyes had lit up like tractor trailer high-beams, and he didn't want anyone coming up on him just to be freaked out by the new guy with the mop of blond hair in the red-and-orange robes.

"...No? It's definitely June'f 2067. 2021 is like. Ancient history."
omg I made such a typo up there /headdesk
"Close dat up, mon, we ain't catchin' no Spanish fly hyah!" HeadVox chided him, and not for the first time, Ronstadt was glad he was the only one who could hear. He closed his mouth and bent it into a frown.
"It's gotta be something about the magic of this place. What did the letter say? Something about ..." Sundown? Sun-something. Sunny D? Don't be a dick, Ronstadt. "Sun-something."
i have made the decision to perceive no such thing :>
She snorted when he said something about the letter. "You read all that shit?" She shook her head. "Wrote way too much shit out in that. Can't believe you made it through." Her brows came together as she tried to figure out what he was trying to go for.
"Sun, sun, sun...dered? Is that what you're goin' for? That's what they keep callin' us, like we're some kinda other race'f people." She was seeming to take the fact that they were from worlds some 56 years apart pretty well.
you are a kind and gentle soul, bless you
"Yeah, that's the one. And of course I read it. If I'm here to figure magic out ... I need to pay attention. Spent way too much time already with my head in the sand, hidin' from whatever this power I've got means. ... Not that the letter ended up having much useful to say in it. Mostly stuff about the headmaster and how amazing she thinks she is. Read like a compilation of Chuck Norris memes."

"What, Birony's letter didn't have to be read, it read itself?" Or something? There might be some differences in the memes. "Glad I'm not missin' anything by skippin' that whole thing, then. Which, you know, means you didn't have to read the whole thing." She flashed him a hint of a teasing smile. "Think the classes'r where you're gonna learn all that noise, not some small novel written to stroke an ego."
A pause, then she continued. "So, uh, you been here a while'n finally taking responsibility for not becomin' some sorta nuke? Or am I the only goddamn person here who didn't have some sorta magic power before they came here?"

"I don't think you're the only one," he said lamely, looking extremely apologetic. "I just showed up this morning in the middle of a field and had some farmer give me directions. He looked more annoyed than surprised. Guess it happens a lot."

The teasing smile was back. She knew she was probably the furthest away from sweet a single person could muster without being wholly unpleasant. Unfortunately, the smile didn't last very long either.
"I just been meetin' people all day who seem to already got powers before endin' up here. Startin' to feel a little left out, but guess I didn't have to hike in."

"Wooooooow, okay Mr. Tough Guy." Her laughter was reigned in as he spoke on his powers, though she was still smiling and in a good mood. "So if you barely knew what t'do with 'em, what did ya do with 'em?" She figured if he was still learning it'd have to be kinda silly, you know? Like every programmer's "Hello, world!"
