Valhudor Tower
He didn't arrive with more than the clothes on his back, so it doesn't take Ronstadt long to set up in Room 911... though he's amused that the tower's dorm numbering is a bit haphazard. He makes the hike up to the common room at the top of the tower, and proceeds to be absolutely awed by the ceiling, flopping down in one of the comfortable chairs. Once he's daydreamed long enough, he heads back down to explore, stopping in the entrance hall to look over the memorabilia and get vaguely distracted by the Bala-Inlota trophies and case. Mostly because he doesn't know what the heck any of it means.
Dining Hall
It had been a while since his last meal - a whole world, even - so Ronstadt's stomach led him to the Dining hall, where he was pleased and amazed to find that there was already plenty of food to choose from, and he didn't have to order anything or try to figure out what things were on a menu. As he filled a plate with what were hopefully homefries, a few sausage patties, and ... well, they looked like scrambled eggs, even if the color was a little odd ... he glanced over at whoever was closest by.
"You don't suppose the chefs here can manage anything resembling a chalupa?"
Kedrigan Hall
Stomach full, properly hydrated with some sort of iced tea, Ronstadt decided to try and figure out where his classes were. It had been a long time since he'd been to anything even vaguely resembling school, and even those memories were... Let's just say he wasn't sure he could rely on them well. Learning magic had been high on his list before he'd even arrived, so he was determined to not screw this up. And he had enough memories of being abysmally late for classes because he couldn't remember where he was supposed to be, or had gotten lost, or what have you. Armed with the map he'd been issued, he crossed the grounds to Kedrigan hall, checking his watch to see how long it would take him to get from point A to point B.
Unfortunately, the sheer amount of magic in the place tripped his Craydar before he was even ten yards from the front door, and he wrapped an arm around his stomach, gritting his teeth with a groan as the presence of so much magic hit him. Every blood cell in his veins felt like it was tingling, and he lowered his head, closing his eyes. The last time he'd felt something even a fraction of this strength, his eyes had lit up like tractor trailer high-beams, and he didn't want anyone coming up on him just to be freaked out by the new guy with the mop of blond hair in the red-and-orange robes.

Curiosity piqued, his Craydar simmering ever so slightly, Ronstadt leaned sideways to take a peek under the table at the source of the noises. "What the ..."
no subject
Under the table-- well it looks like a whip that is coiled up to resemble a black Labrador Retriever, the handle as it's tail is tucked underneath it. The suggestion of eyes looks like it has been a bad creature but take pity on it.
"Bloody thing won't stop following me around."

"It's ... kinda cute, for something offa Side B - er, I mean, something magical. Maybe it just likes you. Or it's hungry." He picked up a half-eaten sausage patty and tossed it under the table for the beast. "Here, buddy, try that."
no subject
The dog(?) snarfs the sausage patty without seeming to possess any teeth, let alone a mouth, and chews happily, tail clicking back and forth.
"You didn't get anything bizarre like this?"

"That is horrifying. I couldn't even sleep in the same room with it. Is...is it alive?" If it is he doesn't want to meet this man in the hall at any point. The thought of one of those arms grabbing at him gives him chills.

"Sort of? I think? The paper I got said it takes instructions, so maybe it's like a Dot or an Echo, just ... in sleep mode until you tell it to do something. I totally shoved it in my closet. No way am I touching something like that until I know it won't rip my arms off."

"Jury's still out. But I found out I have some pretty funky powers of my own not too long ago, so I'm hoping I can use the whole 'school' thing to my advantage. I'm guessing I'm probably kind of an odd man out in that regard, though. And some of it's still pretty freaky: like the arm backpack, you know? How 'bout you?"

He sighed at the question, leaning back a bit and staring at nothing near the seam of the wall and the roof.
"Fuck if I know. I don't even know what's real anymore. I don't even know who I am anymore. This shit is just..." He made a gesture. "There-- and at least I can do something about it but for the rest of it-- half the time I'm not even sure I exist."
no subject
He followed Alec's gaze, curious if there was anything interesting up there or the guy was just looking up to try and think.
"Not knowing if you exist ... yeah." He breathed out, remembering the months he'd spent on the road, looking for answers and finding only more questions, being waved off or just plain looked through. "I know how that feels. For what it's worth, you sure look like you do to me."
He reached out and gave Alec's arm a gentle poke.
"Now, if neither of us exist, that's a different story entirely and we're just figments of someone's imagination. All I know is, my life's been getting weirder every day, and the only thing I can do is keep rolling with it."
no subject
He wasn't particularly reassured by the man's statements, but then again he hadn't looked to be. Just because he looked real to someone didn't mean anything. His life had become too complicated to explain and too intimate to ask just anyone. Only the only one who could understand was shit at giving answers because he existed on a completely different level.
"Oh don't start that. Don't even go there. There's enough doubt in my mind to worry if I'm the product of some deranged mind." He glanced at the man. "How...many sets of memories do you have?"
sorry this is so brief, he's a little gobsmacked
Re: sorry this is so brief, he's a little gobsmacked
mind spoilers? I can write around them.
"Dammit. No, I'm sorry, man...." He moved some of his food around on his plate, not sure if guilt was stealing his appetite or not. "Sure sounds like some powerful magic to me, though."
Whatever was going on with him, it wasn't pinging Ronstadt's craydar, which either meant it wasn't as powerful as he thought, or the rest of the magic in the dining hall was usurping it. Getting used to magic being a constant presence was going to be ... interesting.
s'all good
"I don't know if it's magic, but it's definitely a pain in the ass." He sighed, and rested his chin on his fist, stirring his tea absently. "What's going on with you, then?"

"There's got to be some sort of potion or hand waving someone can do."
