January Event Log
An Undoubtedly Universal Holiday For All Worlds
It has come to the faculty's attention that many of the Sundered are accustomed to some sort of holiday around this time of year, corresponding to the solstice or around thereabouts. To that extent, in the hopes that you all will be more comfortable and happy while stuck here in the Tenscore Kingdoms, they've secretly worked on preparations and planning for just such a holiday here in the Magicademy.
Let us, then, commence... The Day of Fireflies. The magical holiday where we all gather and give thanks to the magic fireflies who gave us an eternal flame, that we might survive the cold winter nights!
(It turns out the faculty's main adviser on what the holidays are like was Spyro.)
Fireflies dance around the academy, bringing warmth and light wherever they shine. The buildings have been decorated in long strips of pollen and nectar to attract the bugs, so that they light the edges and corners in celebration of their presence. A giant firefly balloon hovers over the Great Hall, periodically causing havoc with the delivery airships. Someone magicked up a great tree with multicolored, shimmering needles. Occasionally a golem that looks to be an animated skeleton in a suit shows up and attempts to steal the holiday, giving the students a chance to merrily repel it with a barrage of snowballs; this represents a creature called the Nightmare, which apparently is a part of the holiday legacy as they understand it.
Welcome to the magical winter holiday of Diatu. Good luck.
The Other Side of We
I)n the spirit of hope and togetherness and a cheap laugh (though only Cam Birony admits the third reason), the faculty have prepared special Modification circles for the students to use. One person stands in the Base circle, and then a friend steps into the Shape circle. The one who steps into the Shape circle will then assume the very species of the person in the Base circle! Now at last you can experience what it's like to be a dragon, a duck, a human, a furry, and a -- is Tyzias even a troll any more? Who the heck knows?
Of course, these spells are very new and very experimental, so use at your own risk. You might accidentally get stuck in the form longer than you expect, swap bodies with the person in the Base circle, change partially only, turn strange colors, or turn into a badass dragon.
Wait, Why Would We Turn Into Badass Dragons?
Because the first test subject for Modification was none other than the legendary, half-mythical dragon Ire -- the Scourge of Gaole, the only dragon in the history of history itself to hold any sympathy for humanity, and occasional penpal of some Sundered students. The great Ire is now only the size of Spyro or so, which clearly troubles him greatly, but nonetheless he is available for you all to talk to! Ask him your questions! Throw snowballs at him! Throw snowballs at him that have questions written on them! This is your chance!
Nothing Coold Possibley Go Wrong
Classes are starting up again, the campus is bitter cold, and life goes on. It's almost like this is some sort of wildcard prompt.

NPC Thread for Ire

Reason for that being his current appearance during this moment, though the young dragon obviously got a decent end of the deal. "This is as big as the dragons I know get to when we're older."
And it's remarkably humanoid, undoubtedly strange to see for even the only dragon who doesn't look down on humans with contempt. Spyro comfortably stands on two legs and only towers almost an entire foot over the average human.

Ire is cranky, as is to be expected when anyone is shrunk down to a fraction of their size. He isn't crankier, which is a miracle. "Might I also add that your physical development is absurd."
no subject
"I'm sure it'll wear off soon." Maybe soon enough to get Ire on two legs for the first time in his ancient life. "The celebration's nice," he adds semi-awkwardly. "A bit of it is new..."
Nevertheless. "But come on, let's go grab some grub while you can still fit in the Great Hall...!"

NOA | OTA
"'The Day of Fireflies', hm?"
Noa has come to enjoy a rather quiet holiday all in all, and when Diatu's own 'holiday' comes forward he finds himself one part charmed and another part amused. He can see just a few bits and pieces from other tales and stories he's heard, and to see them all coming together in this way is pretty interesting. The boy has to chuckle, even as he keeps to the warmer areas of the campus- it's all ridiculous but in the end he can't be upset at all. Particularly not with the atmosphere. "It definitely makes for a peaceful atmosphere..." he begins, before something cold smacks him at the back of the head. "NGK-"
N O!
"WHO THREW THAT!"
Peace Over.
"Alright...ready?" Such is what Noa asks to the one in the opposing circle from him- base or shape alike- even as he anxiously adjusts his uniform. "These better change with us," he mutters, frowning heavily.
Time is about to tell, he supposes.
[We were ALMOST Badass...]
"Great." Upsides to the last circle malfunction is that his uniform is alright. Downsides are...
Well, this. It looks very much like Noa had a failed cross with a dragon- he's got the horns. He's got the eyes. He even has some rather sharp teeth in that mouth of his, and a set of wings folded up awkwardly against his back. But-
"Hhh...hhHHEEEH-CH!"
Oh, and there's the fire breath.
"Tell me we're not stuck this way for long..."
Nice and Toasty
"Wow, Noa, you really need to learn to stop being such an easy target. You'll never survive that way!"

Noa, predictably, fumes and immediately points at the local skele-golem running off with a bag of fireflies. "You're supposed to be aiming for THEM!"

Before Disaster
"Ready! Let's fire it up!"
No pun intended but after all... cold is not fun when you're a reptile unused to really feeling it.
no subject
So! With a shrug, he nods. "Right...With a simple step then..."
He moves backward just slightly, and looks across. Alright, let's see this work then...
no subject
... And how his most key features translated is more apparent when the light fades. The now-human kid's eyes are still their usual purple, but a completely blond fauxhawk crowns his head in place of the horns and fleshy fin. It paints an interesting picture with the former dragon's taste for specific regional cuisines.
Oh and then he's shivering (only a little) as he has to fuss with every single piece of clothing he's wearing to make sure absolutely everything is tightly snug to his somewhat taller frame. "It's... it's cold...!" he chatters out, already lamenting about how much it sucks to not have dragon fire sitting in his chest.

YUUME | OTA
"Hahhhh..." As someone who's been studying a lot of ancient cultures, Yuume is rather enjoying what will no doubt end up the actual formation of a genuine holiday. Not all of them have serious, fable-ingrained origins after all. ...Actually a lot of them don't, so this is a fun thing to see indeed.
Yuume dodges as a snowball comes flying past her, raising an eyebrow as an animated skeleton runs past with holiday goods. "Just who contributed these ideas anyway..?" she wonders aloud, a firefly balloon floating past as she speaks. "I can see a few from yule traditions I think..."
[Palette Swap Time]
Well, it seems Yuume has swapped with a troll for a little bit. She's taking it relatively in stride, though to be fair she Did volunteer for the whole idea. Inspecting now grey skin, she tentatively feels the fin-like protrusions at her ears, however. "Odd...Tyzias didn't have these," she remarks calmly. "I wonder what it means..." The horns seem about right at least though. Well. Sort of. Hers seem to be going more the route of some sort of ram's horn or similar...
Well maybe someone else knows about 'trolls' enough to answer it. Either way, she's wondering if she should test sticking her head in a fountain.
[DRAGON, DRAGON !]
Time spent as a troll wasn't quite enough; she simply can't help but see what else might happen, when it's all been proven to reverse safely enough.
Except.
Except this time her soul- her shadow, rather- doesn't especially like all the shapeshifting going on. So while she's busy briefly turning into a dragon, someone starts throwing a metaphysical fit, and it sadly leaves its mark.
Big Time.
"Nhh... N...not like this..!"
Nothing bad is technically happening, but evidently Yuume is not pleased with this transformation at all.
[WILDCARD - Got something in mind? Hit me up!]

Seto is not a big fan of the extreme cold. He's been bundled up in excessive robes and sweaters for weeks. And as much of a 'dark' person as he is...he's really not a fan of the endless nights.
So he can be seen enjoying the firefly lights, walking down a dimly lit path as they dance. He's charmed a few to his side with a spell, adding his old electro-ball to the festive display.
swap time
Kaiba is interested in studying advanced Modification. That's the only reason he's here. But he'll nod gruffly at whoever's in the opposite circle anyway, bracing himself for disaster.
mandatory dragon time
Kaiba should really know better than to indulge in untested magic by now. But the possibilities are endless...and he's very much in a 'why not' mood. He steps in, lets the glyph close around him, and then...
He roars. He stretches and warps until he's basically a smaller version of everyone's favorite ghost dragon, with blue glowing lines like a computer aesthetic's marking his wings and limbs. His eyes are still that same icy shade of blue, but narrower---as he blinks at his new claws.
What the...is this...
It's still his voice that broadcasts out, but it booms louder than before. He pushes himself up, wings flaring. Please help this poor confused dragon.

RETURN THOSE DECORATIONS OR ELSE!
[Okay, her threats are a little rusty, but that's what occasions like this are for. Webby is chasing down the 'Nightmare', and using everything in her arsenal. Snowballs, magic, grappling hook, that vase she snatched off a table... uh-oh. She may be grabbing anything and everything she can get your hands on - regardless if you were using it or not.
Sorry.]
Man, combining a holiday with a high speed chase and possible violence? We should bring this back home to Duckburg!
The Other Side of We
[Who allowed Webby to turn into a dragon? This was a bad idea for several reasons, but first and foremost, she's now at a nearby window...]
Man, flying is going to be so great! Soaring the skies, just like Launchpad! ... Hopefully minus the crashing.
[Webby has, unfortunately, forgotten something basic. Just because she's turned into a dragon doesn't mean she knows how to automatically do anything a dragon can. Like, say... fly.]
Three... two... one!
[Stop her jump, catch her, or watch her fall?]
Wildcard
[Make your own prompt, feel free to have Webby turn into anything/anyone else if you'd like to do the circle prompt!]

Stick to getting the hang of gliding first and you'll be fine...!
no subject
... What's the difference?
no subject
[He spreads his own out for both emphasis and demonstration purposes.]
Gliding is for smooth descents and distances you can't reach in a single bound. For long flights, gaining and keeping height takes a lot of power and control in your flaps, something that you really won't have yet.
[Spyro would know because he's still getting the hang of long flights.]

OTA
Well what happened around Christmas had certainly been... a thing. Fortunately, this seemed much more along the lines of the holiday Lea had been homing for. Suit wearing skeletons aside- though even that felt sort of familiar-, things seemed relatively peaceful for once, and Lea intended to take advantage of it.
He'd prepared a few small gifts for his friends, and could often be found kicking back in the great hall with tea and snacks. It was nice admiring the tree, and watching people going after the 'Nightmare' was amusing too. But mostly he was just enjoying his time before classes inevitably got going again, and would love a bit of company.
Other Side of We
There was one reason and one reason only that Lea had agreed to do this, and that was the fact that he thought that the spells involved might help him put the finishing touches on the magical emergency beacons he'd been working on for himself and his friends. As much as he liked Birony reasonably well, he was very dubious about anything she'd likely find amusing.
"You sure this is gonna work?", he said to the person in the Base circle, standing just outside the Shape circle and eyeing it warily.

[The fireflies are honestly a nice touch, and Lena just allows a moment to just take it all in. The holidays had never been a good time for her, mostly just days of cold to survive instead of experiences to enjoy. So she lets herself just have this time now, to relax and not have to worry about things.
But she is absolutely all for chasing after the Nightmare creature and pelting it with snowballs. Because what are the holidays without a bit of fun?]
The Other Side of We
[Lena stands a bit off to the side, watching as other students test out the Modification circles. She can't help being a little intrigued by the idea of being something else.]
