Hello- I've recently arrived here to be placed in Gekronus Maius. I'll be looking forward to studying with all of you, particularly those in my house.

If anyone here shares an interest in archaeology, with that in mind, I would like to possibly share notes as one of the Sundered here- I'm interested in studying the differences in how various cultures here developed in the past.

[EXTREMELY used to enforced meet and greets.]

Outside the matter of acting on campus formed habits, Yuume seems to be settling in about as well as can be expected. Which is to say, she seems to be doing well?

Mostly. New uniform on, she inspects herself yet again while passing a mirror in the common room, currently rather distracted. "I think I've put it all on properly..." She mutters, only to startle when she looks up to see someone there. "Oh-! Ah... ...I'm not in the way am I?"

[OPEN- SCHOOL GROUNDS]

"Don't chew that..." The warning is soft, and barely even scolding- and given to what looks like a small longhaired rat, currently perched on a young woman's gloved hand. The glove looks rather futuristic- but it's likely non functioning, fortunately for the familiar.

Still, they're hard to replace. So.

It could well be enough of a conversation starter for some- but others may in fact be drawn in by Yuume herself. The young college student approaches calmly, before asking- "Ah...Excuse me? You've been here for a bit, right? Could you perhaps help me with some directions? I'm still trying to sort out the campus layout..."

Ah...it certainly does, yes. He was the one who marked the change over into the technology, among other things...that was years before my time of course, but still.

[A cough.] Oh- Duel Monsters?

That would certainly be...a category of shadows I want to say? All duel monsters are a form of shadow; their cards their point of calling so to speak.

But not all shadows are duel monsters.

[It certainly did since it could have served at the key of their undoing]

So- to an extent we have been talking about the same thing the entire time. [With some nuances apparently] The way the cards are connected to the genuine articles has always been some source of mystification and I don't doubt that there are other monsters that would not have yet been immortalized in print yet.

Ah, well perhaps we could share notes on things sometime if you're up to it? It really is a very fascinating subject now that it's before me.

The number of monsters to cards is certainly unbalanced; I would say it goes...human-bound, to card, to unbound in regard to total number? At the very least for my own time as I said, a card is more of a...'calling card' so to speak. A signal to tell the associated shadow it's their time to fight.

I can't really speak for how it would have been when it was paper cards and solid vision though.

That certainly is beyond my time...

I would be willing to share the knowledge I've acquired on the subject. Some if it might further confuse the issue however.

In a way that would make sense. When invoking the aide of a particular God or Goddess a visual representation would often be created... monsters being connected on a spiritual level must also be drawn to their imitations.

It was always like there was more to them than the electronic projections. You could feel the presence of the actual spirits. [At least... well some of us could]

That last bit certainly explains why shadows began to create issues with that...

But yes, quite like that! Actually it's rather funny that you mention deities- with the realms easier to access and visit, a fair number of more complicated summons came to follow. Well...not complicated in regard to the 'gameplay' I suppose, but just in the proclamations involved?

A great many are fairly particular about how they're summoned. There are even duels hosted based on who can summon first at all, rather than who can strike at the other's life points. Those are rather beautiful to watch actually.

[Complicated to summon? Like the Winged Dragon of Ra perhaps? It was the first example to pop to mind since it too needed to be summoned a certain way]

These shadows sound a bit more notionate than what I am accustomed to. [Debating internally the merits of having to watch two duelists struggle to produce one monster] Do you duel yourself?

Mmnh. When shadows bound to humans began to appear, their presence near solid vision would cause it to intensify. Damage would become more real, making things dangerous. For a time, things moved to 'Augmented Reality', but it ultimately didn't really solve the issue until a way to patch into the shadow's realms came to play instead...

Ahaha! I would certainly say so- a handful, at least.

I do, yes. Unfortunately with my glove out of commission, I can't very well prove it.

Oh, well.. that phenomenon I suppose wasn't entirely unknown to me.

[The power of the Egyptian Gods was oftentimes too great for the systems. Atem apparently just hadn't considered it a problem before but more of an eventual reality. One couldn't suppress that much raw power so easily.]

Or.. I'm remembering it too fondly to be objective.

I do have a deck with me but I haven't played a match in some time.

I didn't expect to hear that... [this is what happens when a chunk of your history is rewritten thanks to SOMEONE resetting the universe twice!]

At any rate, I'm sorry I couldn't offer you a short game then. [well. not really actually- but she doesn't expect that explaining the roles of Doctors in her time is a grand idea here, and how else does one say 'I don't duel recreationally'??] If I can at least get the basic functions of the glove working again, perhaps I can show you the card gallery at least?

Yes- though I didn't think of it initially. The line between spirits and technology is sometimes thin.

It's alright. There are other games to occupy one's time with here. [Though not any that hold as much weight for him personally. Many of his duels hadn't been recreational either but he was capable of both types] I would like that.

I'm curious whether any more support cards were ever added for the Dark Magician. [Well... spellcasters in general, but he was showing a personal bias here by being specific]

For Dark Magician specifically? There were a few I believe. [A few, but she can't remember them off the top of her head.]

Spellcasters over all have quite a wide range. I'll admit that I didn't have many of them in my own deck however- most of them are beasts and beast-warriors, with a few wyrms.

[Y'know, the classification that didn't exist yet.]

[Yuume sounded unsure about about the number so he didn't press for more clarification]

I see. I have a mix myself but I do have a special fondness for spellcasters. [It was just a nice change of pace to be talking about duel monsters for once instead of fantastic foils] Ha- I guess I should have assumed they would have added a new type in the future.

You shouldn't let me monopolize the conversation with this, not with your being so new to this world. Say- if you aren't busy we could meet up and I could show you around the campus.

It's quite alright. It's interesting to talk about it, given the chronological differences.

The courtyard seems the safest option; I will of course be in the Gekronus uniform, though you might spot me by my familiar as well. They're a rat, they'll be on my shoulder.

[Ha!... uniforms. Right right- some people did tend to wear those. When you did manage to get Atem into a uniform he usually wore it differently than most as evidenced by the prior Domino school uniform]

Gekronus, right. I'll remember that. The courtyard is precisely where I would have suggested. I'll bring my familiars along as well.

[Not offering up much in the way of details himself, Atem gathered up some of his things and headed out to the designated location. It wouldn't be hard to spot him either- it never was with that hairdo, and he was in the traditional clothes of his homeland since he had some free time today as well. He was accompanied by a floating crystal about the size of a fist, and a metallic falcon that was situated on his shoulder]

One hopes Atem noted what his familiars are or look like though, otherwise it might still take a minute to spot him...or, well. Maybe not, with Egyptian garb.

Nope! He just assumed it wouldn't be all that hard to find one another once they both arrived there. Yuume would be a new face to him, and since he had been here a while that would be fairly significant in itself. She might also be the one looking around inquisitively at the other people gathered here actively seeking him out. There would be enough clues to go on.

The Egyptian garb- definitely would have given Atem away via their earlier discussion. When he first caught sight of her, he tilted his head in some nagging confusion. Although he knew they had never met before she was not what he expected... and there was something oddly familiar about some of her features. Still, he did not leap to any immediate conclusion] ..... Oh... .yes. That's me. [The hesitation marking his momentary lapse] I see you weren't kidding about the rat. [The words came forth before he could stop himself, likely sounding as asinine to her as they did to him. Just what was it that was bothering him about her countenance...?]

[The hesitation at least, she's passing off as simply not expecting a real rat. She chuckles, letting the familiar onto her ungloved hand.] Mmhmhmmh...I wasn't, no, [She laughs.] This is my familiar however, yes- I've called them 'Tsuchi' for now, for their colour...

[ah....earth, of course... The rat in question is rather lovely though. They have curiously long fur actually. Anyway.]

I feel I should perhaps be the one more surprised however, [she adds, narrowing her eyes somewhat.] Your familiar is...a crystaline being? [She seems less surprised and more curious at least.]

[It's probably for the best anyway since he still couldn't explain the odd feeling] That seems fitting. [Atem offered with a nod] The name could end up sticking.

Really? [Never dreaming that it was the familiar that prompted her statement. Yuume had expressed some knowledge of dueling and of Seto Kaiba so perhaps she also would recognize, if nothing else, the similarity between himself and Yugi Mutou. That did not appear to be the case so his ego took a small hit. Capricius on the other hand seemed to be glowing to be the center of attention] Yes, so he is. This is Capricius Crystallius- I usually just refer to him as Capricous. [The familiar spun in the air and chimed pleasantly.]

[Horus was not slighted by the oversight of including him in the introductions, sitting dutifully on Atem's shoulder]

[Here she thought she was being polite. Your hair might look it bud, but your face is Egyptian- not Japanese. ~~more importantly she's definitely studied your steles Atem, so her first thoughts are absolutely not the Mutous~~

...And...you have a hawk as well? It's nice to see them all, [she compliments.] Ah- but we were going to talk about more than just familiars, neh? Should we find somewhere to sit?

[Usually he was more humble so the fault lay entirely with him. It was still amusing to the familiar however who knew his master quite well and could sense that disappointment at seemingly not being recognized.]

Well..... [Atem coughed into a loosely balled fist with one closed eye and the other looking towards the floating rock. Then he assumed his normal posture and smiled] That's debatable however I find him to be pleasant company on the whole, and he is quite talented. [With the compliments doled out Capricius willingly let the topic slide to the Millennium Falcon- Ie Horus]

Yes- this one came to me through unusual means. [Raising a hand and letting the bird hop to sit on his gauntlet instead. Then he held him out a little closer for Yuume to see] Mm. Yes we were.... you want to sit for a while? [ He thought they might start for the tour first but, he was flexible] There is a bench just over here that is unoccupied.

Unusual? [she repeats, raising a brow at the bird. And the tour is definitely important, but she wants to get some things jotted down and ready from her schedule.] Ah- not for long, just to get a few things from my bag, [the woman explains, gesturing to it.] I want to make sure that I know where my classrooms are as we go through the tour, but I'll need my schedule for that...

[Searching through bags while standing is awkward- also, it'll make it easier to hold conversation.] Thanks again for offering to do that, by the way.

Yes- during the course of researching a local game. I and a couple of friends found this tower filled with memorabilia dedicated to it. [If that isn't strange enough...] We faced many challenges and by the end of it we both ended up with something to take a way from the experience. [Stroking the bird's head] Horus- came into my possession then.

I'm in no hurry, so please.. don't feel rushed. [He followed along with her to the bench and swept his cape out of the way to seat himself.] It's my pleasure.

A local game? What was it called? [She asks, fishing through the bag once seated on the bench- a section is of course being used to hold the thing as she searches.] It sounds like it was quite the challenge at the least, though I can't tell if I should be surprised this was over a game or not...

[The implications there being of course, her own studies into such important things in the past.]
