Sunset had plastered the notices all over the common room and living quarters last week. They really should take the time to get to know each other, right? The space is looking a little cluttered with various snacks, instruments, and library books, but it's cozy and she likes that.

She's looking a little disheveled when the first few people come back from classes, but she waves at them all the same. Come on in and settle down, everyone, it's just fine! Enjoy your various little snacks, go over your spellwork, complain about schoolwork...it's all good.

"Hi! I hope your homework's not too tough today. I could help, if you wanted...?"

Sunset is still learning about the 'meeting people' thing, but she's slowly getting better. She's quick to try and see to it that everyone is welcome and comfortable, and for the first part of the night she's flitting about here and there.

It isn't until later that she finally settles, a borrowed acoustic guitar from her music class in hand. She's still more used to the electric sound, but the principles of playing aren't all that different. For the later part of the evening she'll play a slow, relaxing tune, though she promises not to put any magic into it.

"I guess this really isn't so bad," she murmurs to herself.

"I've always thought an acoustic guitar sounds really pretty," Fluttershy says as she takes a seat next to her friend. After a long day, it was nice to settled down and catch up with a familiar face. "There's something really sweet and haunting about the sound that you don't really get from an electric guitar."

It was so good to see Fluttershy again. Sunset curled into the chair happily, her fingers automatically gravitating to a familiar tune.

"Yeah. We should really write something to go with it, don't you think?"

Her fingers pluck out the old melody. We shine like rainbows...

Recognizing the tune, she smiled and nodded. "That'd be fun. I haven't had a chance to write any new songs with studying for classes, so it'd be nice to write something again."

Now she wished she'd brought her tambourine with her, never mind that it was in her room.

"Yeah. Just look at the inspiration all around us! We'll have to really help the girls see what it was like here."

She tried a new tune, this one light and ethereal. It seemed to fit the atmosphere of the room a little better.

"Mm-hmm! I bet Twilight especially would like it here. She'd enjoy some of the classes, I think."

She couldn't help a soft sigh as she thought about their other friends. It was nice making new friends here at the school and all, but she still felt the absence of the other girls.

"Maybe she'll join us someday? But I hope they're safe, wherever they are."

She reaches out for Fluttershy's arm. "But we've got each other, right?

She nodded. "Me too." Then, glancing at Sunset, she smiled, placing her own hand on top of hers. "Mm...that's true. I'm really glad you're here."

"Yeah. So..."

She's content to sit quietly with her for a few minutes more, then grins and sits back.

"Learn anything exciting lately?"

"...Oh! I did get something pretty interesting," she said, excited as Ballet brings her bag over. Reaching into it, she pulls out a book to show to Sunset: Intimation and Communication: The Fine Line Between Learning and Dictating.

"Professor Mala let me borrow it, and said I might be able to find a technique in here that will help me communicate with animals."

Sunset gives it a look, eyes bright with interest. It'd be nice for Fluttershy to have her magic back.

"That's great, Fluttershy! I'm always wondering what's going on in their heads."

With a bright smile of her own, she nods. "I know, right? Especially here, with all the different kinds of creatures and familiars! I'm planning to read this book and study it as best I can, and then maybe put a note on the bulletin board to see if other people and their familiars would be okay letting me try out some of the techniques I find. Ballet already said it was all right, but I want to test it out on all different sorts if I can."

"My language paper is due tomorrow," Eleven lamented, dragging a hand over his head and staring at aforementioned page with the desolate look of the truly hopeless. "I don't think I know what I'm writing anymore."

"Oh no. Don't worry, we can probably fix that."

Sunset sat back, scratching her head in thought. "Usually I go back to the question the professor asked. Then I jot down everything I can think of that has to do with it, and then kind of pick some things that sort of link together and organize from there. Does that help, or is this the kind of thing where we have to read more?"

[That's a good idea. Eleven reaches for his journal of scribbled notes. But maybe it won't help in this particular instance]

..Well, it's about the difference between these words. They're written and said similarly, but I think I might have confused or mixed them up.

[ She leans forward and squints at the words. ]

All right. We've gone over this, I think. I could let you compare class notes with me?

[ And she reaches into her bag and offers hers, handwriting tidy and organized. Thank goodness. ]

Despite the past month or so getting used to the new school and the other students, Fluttershy couldn't help being a bit shy when it came to meeting new people, a trait that never really went away despite her best efforts. Still, she did like the idea of getting to know her housemates better, and she felt bad for not helping Sunset put it all together. So at the very least, she was willing to try.

Currently she could be found on one of the couches in the common room, with Ballet underfoot (quite literally at times) as usual. And while she wasn't actively seeking out company or conversation, she was more than happy to chat with anyone who wanted to sit with her.

Eleven flopped onto the couch, then sank into the cushions and covered his face with his hands.

"I can't study anymore. How do we have tests already?"

She nodded. "Gosh, I know. I'm not sure I'm ready to be tested so soon. I barely feel like I understand any of it."

He sighed and let his hands drop into his lap.

"The homework is already enough. ..Do you think they might wait if we asked?"

"Mm...I don't know. I mean, it couldn't hurt to ask for an extension."

Then she shrugged.

"But I don't know how much they'll actually listen to us."

Eleven hummed shortly, considering the likelihood of success in confronting any of his teachers. His shoulders slumped a bit.

"It doesn't seem terribly likely.. I guess we'll just have to do our best. Are you having trouble with any of yours?"

"Well, I'm having a bit of trouble getting the hang of the language class I'm in. It's hard trying to figure out the words and grammar for a something you've never heard of before."

Peridot had been a little unsure about a meeting with her fellow Eiather students, but she'd certainly been willing to attend. She did want to make friends, after all... It was just something she was still getting used to.

She was an early arrival, and was quick to settle in with a library book. She stared at the pages for a while, visibly frustrated. She wasn't struggling very much with her classes, so far, but something about all of this still bothered her.

At one point, she finally slams the book shut. "Okay, does anyone else find this all a little troubling?" The logic behind magic made sense in a self-contained way, but overall, Peridot still couldn't understand why it worked.

Eleven jumps a bit, throwing a glance in her direction. He relaxes again by degrees and straightens in his seat.

"Troubling? You mean being here, or.. what you're studying?"

"All of what we're studying," Peridot clarifies, setting the book down. "This magic shouldn't work! There are rules to the world, you know. Things like... Physics, and logic."

She shakes her head in disgust. "But magic seems to ignore everything I know about all those rules!"

A puzzled smile works its way over his lips. He's not sure why that question is coming from someone in this house of all things.

"Magic is a blessing from the gods," he says simply, then shrugs. "It works how they will it to."

She jumped at the sharp sound, glancing over at Peridot. "Find...what troubling?"

"The - the - " Peridot made a frantic gesture through the air, as if she was waving her wand, but at high speed. "The magic! We shouldn't be able to do any of this!"

She frowned, confused. "Why not?"

[Canale arrives quite some time after classes have ended, having spent the time in the library collecting the small pile of books in his arms, and he nearly turns right back around again when he realized he walked in on a small party. It's not that he hadn't overheard a couple of the other students talking about this yesterday, he'd just forgotten about it in all the excitement of settling in or he would have just stayed in the library...

The owl perched on his shoulder makes the decision for him by flying off to inspect the room and not coming back until Canale has found himself a nice corner to settle down in.

And that's pretty much where he's going to stay--out of the way, with an owl on his shoulder and a book in his lap. It's basically what he was going to do anyway, and it's not like he'd expected to be the only one here. It's almost second nature to listen in on everything else going on in the room ever while he runs his fingers over the raised script in the book, but mostly it's just so he'll have some warning if anyone gets near.]

[Eventually someone does approach, but the steps are slow, and she only gets close enough to place a cup filled with what seemed like water on the table near him.

An offering, perhaps?]

[The owl seems to be the first to notice someone approaching, as it shifts a bit on his shoulder. Canale raises his head when he hears the clink of the glass on the table--though he doesn't reach for it just yet in case it's not actually meant for him--and he temporarily closes his book on his hand in lieu of another bookmark.]

Good evening.

[She offers a small smile as she nods.]

G-Good evening. I...didn't mean to interrupt. You were just studying so diligently, so I...thought you could use something to drink.

[That's so nice??? He still has so much difficulty with the idea of anyone being nice to him, especially strangers. She also sounds nervous about bothering him, so he smiles a little to try to assuage that.]

I don't mind. Thank you, that was very kind of you. [He slides his fingers along the table to find the glass and takes is up. Offering accepted!] I was only brought here a couple days ago, so I feel like I have a lot to catch up on.

[She notes the way his hand moves across the table before picking up the glass with a curious tilt of her head, though she doesn't comment for fear of offending him.]

Mm...I know what you mean. I arrived here a month ago, but it still seems overwhelming at times.

[ The sight in the corner reminds Sunset of her own past studies, so she's careful to make her way over eventually. She speaks softly, trying not to startle him. ]

Hey. Everything okay?
