oh no.
Who: Lady and You!
Where: (1) Adventure & (2) Around Campus
When: September
What: (1) Pure Dead & (2) Lady gets another horrible spell from her arsenal back.
Warnings: Potential dead/death talk.
(1) CLOSED TO KAIBA & YOTSUYU
( separate threads, please! )
[ she had asked a couple of friends along on a walk, because she needed to clear her head and talk about some of the stuff that had happened over the past couple of weeks and, oh!, a shortcut. she hadn't ever noticed this before. lady hesitates for a second, because something seems off about it, but as she spares her friends a glance, she realizes that she just kind of wants to get to their destination sooner rather than later. she's antsy, since she's not really good at this sort of thing. sharing. least of all about herself. her past, especially. her abilities too. she makes a noise low in her throat as she starts down the path, but eventually she realizes that this was a terrible idea. there's no longer an end or a beginning. the path just is. she slows to a stop and just freezes up. she should have listened to her sixth sense. ]
I... I... [ they're lost and it's all her fault. ]
(2) OPEN TO ANYBODY.
[ lady had made the mistake of attempting another powerful spell from home. why? her magic is all that she had. it defined who she was and, in her opinion, it still did. the magic here, although amazing in its own right, is not her own. it's not that she hadn't been doing well in her studies, but it just wasn't the same, and her missed her own brand of magic, which is why as soon as the opportunity presented itself ( again ) she took it. ]
[ it's not like she hadn't eventually gotten the other spell under control... after days of freaking out and having her friends helping, b- but that's neither here nor there. ]
[ she finds a small clearing to practice in, using modification to change the environment around her to make small constructs that will act as target dummies for the minions she summons to attack. though obviously not real she should still be able to direct them to the twisted wire frames in the shapes of various monsters. ] Duvokun! [ she calls out and from behind her the portal opens, several of the damned drackin spirits shambling out to do her bidding - oh which there is really any. the wire frames aren't exactly what they're looking for, so guess what! it's time to bother people. ]
[ the 'damned' drackin are 'malicious' dragon spirits from lady's world that will alternate between petty vandalism and graffiti, incredibly inappropriate flirtations with those nearby, and dancing - and poor lady is going to be trying to wrangle them back into the portal the entire time! ]

[ Kaiba realizes it just after she does and the scowl on his face is immediate. He's faced this kind of magic before and...what did he do? Oh, right. It hadn't worked too well, but...
He presses against her side. ]
...is the curse strong enough to hold a dragon?
[ He has his wand out and he's trying to get a read on what spell might be freezing them, but it's like trying to read a collegiate textbook in a language you've only studied for a month. He's largely getting glimmers. ]

[ though she's really not sure that's the best tactic either... brute force seldom worked in these scenarios, but without knowing the exact spell used to keep them at bay they couldn't really work to unravel it. ]

[ He kneels and draws the appropriate glyphs, takes a deep breath, and nods up at her. He believes in you, Lady.
He hardens her shell and gives her his energy...or tries to, anyway. He's still conscious but tired. ]

Alright. Here goes. [ she beats her wings and takes off, speeding towards the magical barrier blocking them from progressing any further. ]

He cautiously follows behind her, wand out as the path leads them to...a rather suspicious shining gem. He stands a few feet back, not willing to approach it just yet. ]
Well, they'd want us to think this was the cause of it.

[ HM. ]
[ this doesn't look safe in the slightest, especially since it's been radiating dread nonstop. ]
Let me handle this... [ in draconic she calls out the spell duvokun and casts it around the gem, the shadows of the damned all rising up around it. hopefully she can get them to grab it or she's just going to have to do it herself, since she's not going to let kaiba touch it. no way no how. ] ... [ let's see if this works. ] Come on guys...

Another dragon among the Sundered! Another one the size of a hatchling at that... Sss, and you-
It then catches sight of Kaiba, and its voice abruptly loses all hints of power and ominous menace, trading them in for exasperation.
And it's you again.

I was ripped from my world and you did nothing to help when I arrived. It was the school and the sundered that reached out to me. But I have never been able to trust my own kind... [ she beats her metallic wings for emphasis. ] Look what they did to me. Prosthetics. [ scowls. ]

He stands as tall as he can and speaks very slowly and clearly, just straddling the line of insulting. ]
So...no one gets to claim the high ground here. Humanity is terrible, yes, but it can be occasionally tolerable...the same with dragonkind. And if everyone would just accept that and move on, there would be no need for anyone to be enslaved or murdered.
[ But he sighs because of course people and dragons have a massive tendency to choose violence. It's fun, but there's a line, folks. ]

[Really. It's patently offended. How was it supposed to aid her when she was both wandering around in a human form and here before it had regained any measure of its power and conscious existence?]
Your dragonkind is weak in magic, I see. You could be so much more. You could shed such clumsy prosthetics, and recognize your full potential. Which is far greater than any human's -- [Here the dragon just looks at Kaiba.] --which incidentally is why the human side is destined for servitude, not because of any measure of moral judgment. I'm uncertain how that was ever unclear.

Do not mock me. I am well aware of my strength. I am more powerful than any human, and it was not a human that made these prosthetics, but a dragon from my own realm. We are capable of a great many things back home, which is why some of the humans took to worshiping us. But that was their choice, and one that shouldn't be taken from them. Why bother enslaving them? We don't need their power when we're already so much more powerful than they. Is it because you're frightened of what they're capable of? Since they're capable of learning magic. You're still a proud dragon...

Proper dragon spirit. I like you. It is about time one of you offworld dragons acted like one, instead of like a mewling weakling! I had begun to despair.
[Naturally, it does not seem intimidated. But her rant had granted her a measure of respect in this dragon's undead eyes.]
You are wrong about one thing, though. Humans cannot learn magic. Not true magic, not magic as we dragons can wield, as we are. Their minds cannot grasp the possibilities, their bodies cannot contain them. They wield a mere slice of magic they battered into submission with rules and laws and limitations -- a clever workaround, I admit, but insufficient to challenge dragonkind without the element of surprise.
As for why enslave them? Well, simply this: no matter how strong and powerful the master, it is still less work to bind someone else to do the meaningless tasks.
