Who: Yugi & You !
Where: In a Maze.
When: Throughout September.
What: Info. under the cut, but basically it's time to traverse a maze!
Warnings: MAYBE. If anything comes up, it'll be noted in the subject.

┌ Yugi will find himself able to tap on his own energy, but every time he attempts it, he and whoever is near him will be drawn into a dark maze, a twisting confusion of passages with constant hints of danger in the shadows and the threat of environmental hazards like spikes, pits, etc. Yugi will never enter this maze alone -- he always has to drag someone in with him, whoever is closest or whoever he talked to last or something similar that forges a connection between him and them. Once they reach the center of the maze, they return to where they came from as if no time had passed. The only wounds that remain are the emotional ones! ┘

[ he had been to the maze a couple of times, but that didn't mean that he enjoyed being drawn there, especially since it meant that he was dragging somebody else along for the ride. he frowned, wondering if that was ever going to stop being the case. was he ever going to be able to summon gandora without having to endanger somebody else? he frowned, picking himself off the floor as kicked aside a few of the gnarled roots that started creeping off the cobblestone walls. ]

Hello? [ he drew his wand, the tip starting to glow until the large bead of light popped off, hovering alongside him to illuminate the narrow corridor. ] Is anybody there? [ he knew somebody had to be there, but it was really just a matter of who. ] It's me, Yugi, and I'm, ah, ...sorry you were dragged into this... [ but hopefully they could work together and safely get out. ]

[In a cobination of Life At McDuck Manor and Life At Diatu, Webby isn't all that surprised to suddenly be dragged into a dark maze. Just another Monday.

She casually pulls out her wand, lighting up the tip.]

Hi Yuugi! So, you pulled me here?

[ right. this isn't that different from some of the stuff he's had to deal with too. of course, he knew it was going to happen this time, and it's just unfortunate luck that someone else gets dragged in too. at least it's someone that's familiar with the unnatural and won't have a hard time navigating the twists and turns of the maze, which, when he sees her, brings some relief to his face. ]

I, ah, kind of did. It was sort of an accident? [ he rubs the back of his neck sheepishly. ] I'm trying to summon a Duel Monster of mine from home, but it seems like whenever I try I end up here... and with a friend... for, uh, some... reason...

Whenever you try? So you've been doing this over and over?

[It miiight be time to stop, in that case.]

[ ... ]

[ !!! ]

N- Not that many times!

I think this is, like, the third time! I'm not really sure why I'm ending up in a maze and I'm even more confused about why other people are being dragged into it. Not to mention Gandora isn't even here. [ he just shakes his head. ] What's the point of getting something back if literally nothing about it is given back?

Gandora? Okay, I think you need to start over.

What's going on, and what were you trying to do?

...ok. Let me start over. [ he takes a deep breath. ] It seems like we're able to get stuff from home now. Like, the researchers have finally made a couple of breakthroughs or something. I asked for an ability to tap into my spiritual energy to summon a duel monster from home, Gandora, my partner. Anytime I try to tape into that energy... I end up in this maze... I, ah, I can summon him, but he's big, too big, so bringing him here wouldn't really do us any good...

Okay, I think I get it.

[Mostly.]

... Have you tried summoning a much smaller monster?

I have... and unfortunately I haven't been able. I could probably use a spell I learned here to make Gandora much smaller, but I'd have to be quick about it.

I bet you could do it! I know you can make it super quick!

Alright... here goes.

[ he's going to tap into his spiritual energy and dimension summon gandora x - the dragon of demolition, but as soon as he does he's going to let his partner know that he's going to be using some magic to make him a more manageable size, because he doesn't want him getting upset that he's going to be shrinking. also, he doesn't want him freaking out. the spell is cast a few seconds later, though a couple of the maze walls to suffer, since gandora is a huge monster, and yugi did want to relay what he was doing first... ]

[ the dragon ends up being the approximate size of a horse, giving a roar, and looking between the two of them. ]

... GIANT GLOWING DRAGON FRIEND!

[WHAT A GREAT DAY THIS IS.]

Hi, Gandora! I'm Webby! Welcome to Diatu Academy!

[ gandora howls and turns toward webby. what's going on? where is he? this isn't a duel field... he leans down to get a better look at her. hello there. ]

Hey Gandora. We're going to need your help getting out of this maze.

Can he breathe fire? Is he immortal? Do you sacrifice pure young maidens to appease his wrath?

[She just keeps shooting off questions-]

He can shoot tens of hundreds of thousands of lasers from all of the orbs on his body. Ah, no, not really, he can be... sent to the graveyard. [ he doesn't necessarily want to say killed. ] But I can definitely say no on that last one. [ he shakes his head, stifling a chuckle, gandora looking between the two. ]

We should, ah, probably get going. [ going to try to start walking. she can still ask questions as they go, though they should probably pay attention to the perils of the maze too... ]

Okay! Let's go!

... Can I ride him?

I'm not sure he wants anybody ri-ah! [ as soon as he starts down the path the path crumbles beneath him and he falls, grabbing hold of a broken ledge a few feet down. ] Urk. [ he grunts, grip slipping as gandora peers over the edge. ] H- help.

Yugi!

[OH NO - she races over, kneels down, and grabs his arm, trying to help him back up.]

I've got you!

[ he feels his fingers start to slip, but thankfully webby is there to grab his arm and gandora doesn't hesitate to grab a hold of her, hoisting her up and lifting them both over his head with ease. guess what, guys and gals, you're both getting carried. ]

Thanks Webby, Gandora.

[ gandora spreads his wings, giving them a cursory flap, before jumping up and clearing the pit, though it seems the maze doesn't want to make passing the trial easy and several arrows shoot out from the sides of the cavern. ]

Gandora, watch out!

[HOLY CANNOLI, RIDING A GLOWY DRAGON! THIS IS AN AWESOME DAY INDEED! Webby hoots and hollers, holding her arms out like she's on a roller coaster ride.]

Wheeeee! We need to get stuck in mazes more often!

... OH RIGHT ARROWS BAD! DUCK!

[ he can't help but to laugh at that. ] I think I'm going to eventually be able to summon Gandora out of the maze, so I don't think we need to get stuck in here anymore. I'm not sure I appreciate getting shot at. [ he brings his hands up and over his head as gandora tries to avoid the arrows, but he's a bit too big to do so. ]

[ when he gets struck yugi cries out, since the two of them are connected through their summoning link. his breath quickens and he pulls out his wand, trying to cast a protective shield around them as they hurry down the corridor. ]

[The cry definitely catches Webby's attention, and she looks at Yugi, confused and worried.]

Wait, what just happened? Did you get hit too?

[A grunt was the only response Yugi would get at first, as Louie sat up on the maze floor, a few feet away. This wasn't so much weird or upsetting as... Very inconvenient. For now.]

What...? Yugi? [Louie fumbled for his wand, and worked on Discovering his own source of light - a sphere floating in the air, similar to what Yugi had done... Ah! There he was. Louie stood and approached his friend.] What is this, anyway?

Louie! [ as soon as he sees his friend he's rushing over and taking a knee by his side. he looks like he's alright though, and he even gets to his feet and calls forth his own source of light. he sighs, feeling a bit bad that the maze has claimed another person. ] It's a maze... [ he kicks himself. ] I have been trying to summon a Duel Monster from home, Gandora, and whenever I try I end up here... with a friend... I, ah, I'm sorry. [ he takes a step back to give him some space. ] I'm not sure why this happens, but this place kind of... well, as you can imagine it kind of sucks.

[Louie sighs, but manages a slight smile in Yugi's direction, in hopes of reassuring his friend.]

A lot of things about this place kind of suck. [He shrugs.] This doesn't seem as bad as most of the stuff I've dealt with back home, at least.

[ a nod. ] I know one thing that doesn't suck... [ he shoots him a smile. ] I'm real glad that I met you. [ he readies his want with a protection spell. ] And it doesn't seem to bad now, but there are all sorts of traps in this thing. Usually there are puzzles at the forks, but they don't always have the greatest hints, but I think between the two of us we should be alright...

[Louie returns that smile.]

Yeah. Same to you, Yugi.

[But the smile fades. Traps. Of course, there's always traps.]

Ugh, fun. But you're right about the puzzles. I'm sure we can handle them.

[ smiles, feeling a bit better, since he could have been trapped in here with a lot of people, and though it sucks that he dragged louie in, well, at least it's someone he's confident will be helpful, and maybe they can get through this without much trouble. ]

[ he starts towards the first intersection, slowing to look at the ground and the ominous carvings. ] What have you been up to anyway?

[Louie follows closely at Yugi's side, eyes darting around in a way that might betray his confidence a bit. However, the question has his full attention, once asked.]

Oh! Work. And school stuff, but that's... I can't make money doing that. [Wait, can he? He puts a pin in the thought.] But yeah, I've got a pretty cool delivery service going on, with Orisa and Lena working for me, and a few of the local students are interested in getting in on it.

For real? [ he perks up, because he's real interested in that sort of stuff. ] I think that's really cool. Do you deliver all sorts of stuff, because I could always ask my boss if he needs anything delivered, and maybe we could work something out!

I don't think we should go this way. [ he points down the clear looking path, which probably seems weird, but judging by the carvings it seems like the floor might give out into a pit of... spikes. ] Though we might have to tango with some vines down the other hall...

Yeah, absolutely, you should! [It's a little hard to play it as cool as Louie normally would when the idea of getting more business is on the table. That's definitely something he'll need to work on if he wants to be a business success, but for now, he doesn't even care.

He cares about it even less when Yugi points out the dangers ahead. He's got an eye that recognizes a trap or general danger easily.]

Great. Vines... Oh. I was going to say they don't sound bad, but there was that one week where some of the plants were breathing fire on campus, so who knows?

I'll let you know what he says. [ he doesn't think he'll have trouble convincing him, but he'll have to see. ]

Hopefully these vines don't breath fire, but we probably shouldn't speak too soon. [ he takes a few steps down the path, the vines starting to encroach on it, crowding them and producing spikes that will surely hurt if they're not careful. they seem to come from above too, causing yugi to duck as he continues forward. ] Maybe we could use a little fire...

[Louie, fortunately, doesn't have to duck. Sometimes being short isn't the worst thing. All the same, he sees Yugi's point, and sighs.]

I can't Discover a brighter light than this, yet...

I can... summon Ganodra, but I'd have to shrink him immediately, since he's much to big for the maze, but he might be able to help. [ or he can just cast a fire spell, which is what he's going to attempt to do... but first a quick protection spell, to keep them from getting singed. ] Alright, let's try this.

Inferno! [ he calls out, a huge fiery blast leaving the tip of his wand and burning through the vines and leaving nothing but char in its wake. ] ... [ oops, overkill. ]

[Despite the whole mess of a situation, Louie finds himself chuckling at how overdone the spell ended up being.]

Hey, you got the job done.

True... [ he blinks, staring down his wand for an extra couple of seconds. ] Sometimes I forget how powerful some of these spells can be... [ he trails off, slowly making his way down the narrowing path, a faint silver glimmer making him stop dead in his tracks. ]

What do you suppose that is?

[ it's a trap, of course, but what exactly it'll do when triggered is anybody's guess. ]

[Louie's definitely become adept at spotting traps, but figuring out what they'll do is harder - especially when it's likely a magical.

He stares intently at the glimmering spot for a good while, before sighing.]

Something we should avoid. Other than that, I've got nothing.

I wonder if we could trigger it without, y'know, actually [ yugi motions between the two of them. ] triggering it.

[ he tries to think of a spell that could be useful. maybe some discovery spell. he takes his wand out and gently taps it to his cheek. ] Oh! I think I got it. [ turning to the cave walls he uses a modification spell to turn one of the stones into a ball, which he then painstakingly pushes toward the silver glimmer. as soon as it rolls over the spot a set of spikes jut out from the ceiling and then drop. ]

...

[ yugi just stares. ]

Uhm...

[Louie jumps as the spikes drop down, complete with a little yelp.]

What is wrong with this maze?!

[Just... Give him a second. A few deep breaths and he's a bit better.]

Okay, deadly traps... I-I've dealt with those before. No big deal.

[Stepping out of the shadows, Atem placed a hand to his hip as he looked towards Yugi]

There's something about this..... that seems oddly familiar, doesn't it?

[Not that he was truly aware that they were in a maze just yet, but it had the eerie makings for one]

Care to explain? [His lips quirked up in a smirk, finding some little amusement in the fact that his partner just couldn't stay out of trouble]

Atem!

[ he spun around and found himself looking at his other self. whelp. he should have known that sooner or later he would end up in here with him. ]

I thought I could summon Gandora... but each time I try I end up here and with a friend. [ he rubs the back of his neck. ] I'm not really sure the researchers are ever going to get anything right. Ever.

[Who better than the two of them to solve a maze?]

Gandora? I see.... [Atem had toyed with the idea of reconnecting with his monsters on some level like that, but had decided against it since he had no idea how doing such a thing would effect this dimension. Yugi however didn't seem to have those qualms] They are trying Yugi, but this is almost as new to them as it is to us. We have to be patient and give them time.

What gave you the impression that something like this would be possible...? [Perhaps he should have been paying more attention to Yugi's studies. Someone's been dabbling in sundering, haven't they?]

[ he's just frustrated. his response should have made that obvious, but if it didn't, then how he staggers back into the wall and slouches against it should have. he hadn't meant to snap, but he's just so tired. things just never seem to go right. ] I know. I've been looking into Sundering and Summoning a lot recently. And the thought of being able to call on a powerful alley, especially here, ... [ he just shakes his head. ] but the cost of the things we ask for all have a very steep price. Kaiba asked for his Blue-Eyes Cards back and he's been going through nothing but hell, it seems. I'm worried about him.

I have been working with professor King and we've been using Deathtoll around the campus. It seems that the card is merely a gateway. Depending on where that gateway is opening determines what's on the other side. Dimension Summoning is what Diva introduced us to and it is the closest thing to how you guys dueled back in ancient Egypt, using out own spiritual energy to summon and power our duel monsters... and it is possible. I may end up here with I try to summon Gandora initially, but if I were to try again, right now, I could do it. He just wouldn't fit into the maze and that might make it a bit more difficult on us, which is something I learned the first time I ended up here.

I just don't know if this is going to be something that always happens or if it'll eventually stop. [ he sighs. ] I'm sorry I dragged you into this, Atem, and everybody else too.

[It's that frustration that Atem really isn't understanding. Though from the sound of things, this is something Yugi had been working on for a while and that could explain some of it] ... but Yugi... you've always had powerful allies you could call on... [Tilting his head to one side to see if he got his meaning. The other sundered always seemed so willing to help, and he was worried that Yugi might be trying to take on more by himself than was necessary] ...... What has been going on.....? [Apparently he had a better chance of staying in the know when he was inside the Millennium puzzle than outside if it] What's this sudden urgency you've been feeling lately....?

... but it still requires souls to open that gateway, right? [Trying to make sure his info was up to date] ..... [Atem decided better of reminding Yugi what the definition of insanity was. I mean there was another saying that would back up the other boy's attempts just as easily. He could tell it was important to Yugi, so he would be supportive.]

It's alright Yugi, Ra knows I dragged you into my own quandaries plenty of times. [Trying to allay some of his fears] So.... what are we meant to do here? Or... perhaps I should ask, what have you tried already?

[ he's been at this, all of this, for some time. ] ...Atem. I know that. I have never once doubted that. But I need to be able to make the most of all of the magic we can learn here. Including Sundering. I think it's the most powerful magic we have access to. And nothing new? I have just been working with Professor King to test some more of Deathtoll's abilities I guess you could say. I'm not sure I could say it's anything urgent. Just... something we thought we should investigate. She seemed interested into it, since the card is a Gateway. It's not really evil, per say, though I suppose the toll is, ah, kind of... steep. [ cough. ] Not souls, no, ...but if I don't play my cards right it'll take a blood offering. >x>;;; not much better, to be honest. ] I'm not really sure what happened that one time, honestly. It was definitely... abnormal... but then again most things at this school are...

Mm... [ his whole life had been a quandary, honestly, ever since he'd solved the puzzle. ] We need to get to the center of the maze and then we'll be teleported out. It's as, ah, "simple" [ airquotes included. ] as that. But the maze is full of all sorts of traps, so we'll need to be careful...
