This Dragon Thing is Dragon On And On And On....

What: Yeah, the zetta freak is still hunting HIS dragon.

He's been following every clue, every option, every subtle hint trying to find his dragon, coming back to the surface only for food, the occasional class, and of course, building some truly epic trash sculptures with rubbish he's found on his hunt. I mean even for him, these things are seriously weird.

But this time he had a feeling he was close. He had a few of those lightning ball things floating around him, zapping anything that might be alive to spook it so he could decide what he wanted to do about it if it was... or to see if it needed to be added to the heap. He wasn't being quiet, he wasn't being subtle. And he might have been reciting the digits of pie to the tune of transformation. Because we all love the blurring of diegetic and nondiegetic music, right?

"So...." he said with a grin. "All I have to do is kill you? So zetta done." And with that he blurred and shifted into his own Noise form. Leo Cantus stood before the dragon, claws stretching. "INFINITY!" he yelled and launched himself at the creature. THIS WAS GOING To BE FUN!

The dragon doesn't even bother to act, having long-ago senses the binding on the human that would turn any offensive attack he made against him before it could land on the one he was striking.

Pain. Pain ripped through him as the attack should have hit. And it staggered him back for a moment. then he glared up, panting. Fine. Just fine. He wasn't sure what this zeta son of a digit had done to him, how the dragon had attacked so swiftly, but he wasn't going to let that stop him. He was going to attack again.

And he staggered back from the pain again. And, as you might have guessed, still hadn't learned. Or rather... he learned the wrong lesson.

"INFINITY!" he yelled, shoving his power into as broad an AOE as possible, just trying to do DAMAGE to everything and anything. He was figuring the dragon was just moving THAT fast to dodge and attack. Well, if he brought the cave collapsing on them after setting it on fire... nowhere for the dragon to dodge to now was there?

He was willing to risk his remaining existence for his ambition. To his mind, anyone truly ambitious, should.

That -- that's just terrific. The cavern began to shiver slightly, as the air in it heated and expanded with sudden pressure. The dragon, meanwhile, isn't even moving.

You do realize I'm incorporeal, correct?

Which meant he had to change his vibrations. Fine. He could do that. He tried to raise his status, knowing that a regular Reaper could not vibrate to a higher plane than the RG. That was part of what a Composer could do that raised him above. But thinking he was in the UG, he could easily rise to the RG. For a variant factor of easily.

"What the factorial do you think a Reaper is?"

He tied to force the raise in his vibrations. He refused to accept any reality that said he couldn't.

"INFINITY!" he screamed, trying the attack again as he tried to raise his vibrations further, to come to the same plane as the Dragon.

Well.

In that moment, Sho Minamimoto raises his vibrations through raw strength, willpower, and sheer cussedness.

Funny thing about that. Whatever he might have believed, he was always on what he'd call the 'RG'. And in this moment, he enters what he would call 'the UG' - and what this world would call the spirit real, the realm of death and dreams. Astral, ethereal, or any other name one might apply -- it is nothing more than a colorless space. Not the black of night or the void, but the same lack of color you see when you shut your eyes.

And then a voice. One which comes from everywhere, as if simply brought into existence rather than being created as propagating vibrations. But a strangely calm one.

"What are you doing here?"

"Zetta epic..." he muttered, looking around. "Where the fractal is this?" he was fascinated.

[magicademynpcs]

"You would likely not understand the direct answer," the voice says quite conversationally. "'The afterlife' or 'the plane of spirit' are often answers to human minds. Those will suffice for now."

[grim_heaper]

"Yeah I was already there. I'm not a brain dead binomial, you can give me the technical explanation and I'll factor it."

[magicademynpcs]

"Mmm. Very well. This realm exists partially coterminous with the 'world', with various areas more or less in sync. This one is primarily desynced, you note, as the world leaves little representation here. The energy field known as the 'soul' is semiapparent here as well, and consequently when it dissipates on the mortal plane it exists only here."

[grim_heaper]

"That sounds a lot like the UG, but I was just zetta there. My time dead is greater than my time alive by this factoring point."

[magicademynpcs]

"You were alive. In fact, you remain alive. Your soul remains imprisoned in your flesh. Whatever you might believe or might have been the case about your state of existence prior to your arrival in this world, you are alive here." The tone is one of an instructor coolly correcting a wayward student, with all the implied power dynamics therein.

[grim_heaper]

"Do you know how long it has been since I was alive? What the factorial would I be doing alive again? You need to recheck your equations, because something isn't adding up."

[magicademynpcs]

"You have failed to account for your transition," the voice rumbles, sounding amused. "In the course of transport from your world to this one, the integration protocol has translated spirits and essences to living beings. You are not the only one to be so affected."

Holy cow, someone is actually getting through to him

He transformed to his human form and then from there to his reaper form, which was the same as his human form, except for the addition of a pair of truly impressive if non-sensical wings. "Even if somehow I was vibrated back to life, there is no zetta way, I'm still a Reaper." A Reaper who has been having extreme difficulty creating Noise. Or, with one exception, seeing them.

If he was actually alive.... Oh the Composer must be laughing his factorial off. Revenge would be had, of course.

"Yes, and? No creature changes their identity when coming here. Humans remain human. Golems remain golem. The alleged 'dragons' of other worlds... retain their nature. Why should a Reaper not?"

[grim_heaper]

"Dead is kind of a prerequisite to being a reaper, any zero knows that." He was keeping the wings out.

[magicademynpcs]

"Death is merely a state of existence," the voice says, disdain under its words. "Your state of existence is altered. Your nature is not. It is simply a matter of whether your 'soul' is bound to a living body or one in a different state."

[grim_heaper]

"So you're saying they built me a new factoring BODY?"

[magicademynpcs]

"It was a translation rather than a reconstruction, but if it helps you comprehend, you may think of it that way."

[grim_heaper]

"But that doesn't add up, how do your factor dead reaper soul can become living human flesh? No zetta way"

[magicademynpcs]

"It's magic," the voice growls. "You have living human flesh here in the spirit realm right this moment, don't you?"

[grim_heaper]

"The equation seemed to prove out that I did not."

[magicademynpcs]

"Recheck your mathematics then," the voice says with an amused huff of breath, despite apparently having no physical form. "Argue with me all you want, but the reality is simple. You live."

This was a lot to take in. "How the actual factorial could living flesh add Reaper powers? And if I'm alive and this was all a zetta RG, how the factorial can I get back to the UG so I can take over this zetta place?"
