The minute Dewey heard the rumors going around that there was a traveling festival in town, he knew he had to go. Noctis was right: it was high time he got back down into the city, despite the fact that he and Rapunzel had gotten so hopelessly lost a few weeks ago. This time, he was going prepared: a map from the library was tucked into his backpack, with plenty of room left over for cheap midway winnings and souvenirs he didn't even need, but would absolutely hoard anyway.

He left a quick note on the bulletin board, addressed to anyone he even remotely considered a friend: Guys hey let's go to the dock festival meet you outside the path to town k we're DEWING THIS - Dewey

Anyone who wanted to meet up with him could find him bouncing on the balls of his feet, too excited to stand still.

"I used to think the cheap rides were the best part, but now they're nothing compared to Launchpad's flying. Now I'm all about the food! And the music. And those sweet sweet midway games. So we definitely need to start with fried dough. Since you've never done this. That's an absolute classic!"

Webby blinked, already thrown off. "Fried dough? Isn't dough supposed to be baked?"

"Aaaaah, you'd think so, wouldn't you?" He said archly, winking and wagging a finger. "But they take these great big pieces of it and drop it in boiling oil like an enemy knight and then pull it out super fast, because it only takes like ten seconds to turn into this gorgeous, golden brown, crispy-on-the-outside-chewy-on-the-inside edible plate of delicious. And you can put powdered sugar and cinnamon and butter on it and it's just - Webby, it's the best."

Over the course of all that, he'd already grabbed her hand and started dragging her toward the nearest food vendor.

The more he describes it, the more drool begins to drip out of Webby's beak. Could nirvana be reached in edible form?

"That sounds like the most unhealthy thing to have ever been created, and I have never desired anything more."

"Then that's totally where we're starting!" He located a vendor, stretched up on his toes, and slapped his money down on the counter with a manic grin.

"Two of your finest fried doughs, please, my good man!"

The cook gave him an odd look, but set to work. Dewey dragged a nearby crate over so that Webby could climb up and watch the magic happen as they dropped two rounds of dough into the baskets of bubbling golden oil with a hiss like a nest of vipers.

Webby leaned in as much as possible to watch the process, her eyes widening with every step.

"And you guys got to eat this kind of stuff all the time?"

"Not all the time. The fair only comes around once a year. That's what makes it so awesome!"

Their delicious prizes were deposited on paper plates that soaked up the extra oil, then handed over with fistfuls of napkins. Dewey held Webby's out to her with a grin.

"And now comes the fun part ... toppings!"

"Toppings?!" Webby repeated in a combination of joy and surprise. "You mean this mountain of deliciousness can get even better?!"

"Oh yes... Observe." He gestured with a showman's flourish to a folding table that looked like a hurricane had hit it: Hurricane Fair Patrons, to be exact. Cinnamon and powdered sugar were everywhere, not just contained to their relative dispensers, and a chafing dish held three different kinds of fruit - lemon, apple, and cherry - that looked more like pie filling than anything else, clearly full of sugar. There was also a large bottle of chocolate syrup.

"Cinnamon and powdered sugar is usually the recommended beginner level, but if you want to go straight to expert level..."

He smeared on an even layer of lemon topping, then coated it with powdered sugar until it looked white ... Which, of course, meant that he got equally covered in it. Then he added a spiral of chocolate syrup.

"Perfection."

Niagara Falls had nothing on Webby's drool-stream right now. How was such a creation even allowed to exist?

"That looks like it'd give me a heart attack and I'd be so grateful for every second of it."

He traded his plate with hers without a second of hesitation and started to repeat the process.

"I'll eat this one, then. Go ahead. Enjoy."

"OKAY THANK YOU!"

With permission granted, she smacks her face right into that mountain of yum and begins loudly scarfing it up.
