(Intro) wide-eyed one with a mind full of wonder

Part One: Closed To Canonmates

His first inclination after being told where he was, and what had happened, was elation. That finally, finally, he could be a proper adventurer, explore the wilds of this strange and amazing new world without being seen as part of a matching set. That people wouldn't look at him and see one-third of something, but a whole. Dewey Duck, master magician. It had a ring to it. So he had set out immediately to explore, his familiar a constant companion and guide. When he wasn't sure what something was, he asked. It didn't take him long to figure out that CHRONOS would only answer him twice a day ... but reliably, and well. So when he seemed particularly stuck on something, he'd camp out, and wait, and watch the stars roll by or make pictures from the clouds. Or pick flowers and berries.

CHRONOS had told him, several hours too late, that the yellow ones turned your tongue numb. Some familiar.

After the first few days of travel, marveling at every wonder in front of him, Dewey had started to feel a tug, like he'd been turned into an avian compass. He didn't even need to ask his new friend: he just knew it was his magic. He was being guided toward his greatest adventure, toward his destiny, toward something that would make him The Greatest Magician In All Of Everything Ever. He forded streams, singing to himself, arms windmilling as he walked on the rocks. "Sub-sti-tu-ti-ar-y ... looooo-co-mo-tion...."

After a while, he started to wish the song hadn't gotten stuck in his head, and tried to think of other songs. Powerline. Quillex. Imagine Unicorns. Any and everything he could. But they all reminded him of nights rocking out in the manor, bouncing on bunk beds, singing at the top of his lungs with his brothers and Webby. All the while, the pull got stronger.

When the Magicademy appeared on the horizon, Dewey knew it was fate. He was tired. He was hungry. He could really go for a Pep. But still, he broke into a dead run across the grounds, second wind rising up in him as steady as the power he'd felt building.

"YAAAA-HOO-OOOOO! HELLLOOOOOOOOO, DESTINY!"

Part Two: Open to All

After what was certainly one unforgettable reunion, Dewey made his way to the Great Hall to satisfy his growling stomach. CHRONOS hovered over his shoulder: a two-foot wide clock face frozen perpetually at 10:13 like a baroque handlebar moustache, unjudgemental at the way he piled plates high with food.

"I don't even know what this grey stuff is, but it looks delicious..."
unswervingcompanion: (However)

Part Two

Hendrik had just sat down to eat (he couldn't cook) and was about to enjoy his meal. But when he noticed the newcomer he took a double take. No, it wasn't Louie, the knight was pretty sure of that.

But then he noticed the clock hanging almost over the other's shoulder. So this kept him from asking if it was burdensome or a menace, though Hendrik couldn't say he'd ever seen a clock look like this one.

Overhearing the words spoken by the other though, he offered what it tasted like.

"The grey stuff appears to be some sort of sauce."
unswervingcompanion: (Hmmm)

Sauce was what the knight had found the gray stuff tasted like. Originally he had thought it was gravy though he had doubts because the color didn't seem correct.

Hendrik's blue eyes widened as the other then proceeded to put it on just about everything that he had on his plate.

At the introduction, the knight nodded. "I am Hendrik from the Kingdom of Heliodor. If you just arrived, you must be tired and are welcome to sit at my table."

Formality, this one had it in spades.
unswervingcompanion: (...what?)

Cue the surprised face that this one seems to know how to talk just like the people back in Heliodor. But the last part was the one word he caught up on. This reminded him of meeting Louie, who had said something about 'cribbing notes' and he'd had to ask.

Seems like this was going to be a similar situation.

But the knight stood anyway to allow the other the room to sit.

"I must apologize, but you have lost me on what coughing up..deets means."
unswervingcompanion: (Dawn of a new world)

The knight nodded as he could understand now. "Of course."

But he was unsure as to what to say about his kingdom. Where did he start? Well, Hendrik decided that here he could give the other a choice.

"There are a great many tales. Shall I tell you of the kingdom itself or would you hear a story about a boy who became a great strategist?"

And that was a tale about his friend Jasper.
unswervingcompanion: (Listen up)

"It would." Hendrik nodded. "He was one of the finest knights of the realm and commanded the fleet that defended the coast of Heliodor, with utter dedication."

This knight is definitely proud of his former friend, even if he inwardly grieves that loss. And then he smiled.

"The tale can wait until you have had more sustenance."
unswervingcompanion: (Yes?)

"They do." Hendrik nodded. But then he noticed the other was hurrying.

A quick smile appeared and he shook his head.

"The man's name was Jasper. He was a brilliant strategist and mayhaps the most intelligent knight that His Majesty has ever had in his ranks."
