Plus one Class thread - OTA

Who: Minamimoto and whatever unfortunates wander into his classes
Where: The maths classroom, his... uh... renovated arts classroom, and the field for P.E.
When: Weekdays on and off all month.
Warnings: bad math puns and threats of erasure.

"Since everyone is so zetta hung up on who is cute enough to ask to the dance, time to work on some acute angles. And hey, I'll even throw in a Square dance lesson or two. So listen up you factoring hectopascals! Who here can define acute angles for me?"

"Find your beauty! Alright, zeroes. Everyone is all about this dance, so we're going to help decorate the school for it. Grab some spray paint, and get to work!"

"You factoring hectopascals want to fit into your pretty dance clothes? Then start running, Pi laps. Fail and face erasure!"

The office he gave Link as a destination was really the arts classroom he had renovated. Which mostly meant that the floor was covered in brown paper, the ceiling was gone, there was a trash sculpture to one side of the room, and the walls were covered in spray paint. Today there was also a rolling board, white board markers, and the remains of a few chairs.

The "office" reminded Link of the remains of Castle Town. Destruction and something very "off" about the whole place. All it needed were a few redeads, and the feeling would have been complete.

Link, not spotting his professor immediately, started to try and piece a chair back together in the meantime.

He dropped off of the trash tower. "Soh Cah Toa. You actually showed up."

"Well, you did say to meet at this time?"

And students were supposed to listen to their professors, right? Or, at least, Link thought those were the rules.

"--heads!"

The yell comes from behind Sho, as does the immaculately folded paper airplane coming straight for his, well, head. It's path seems rather targeted, especially given that it's not a particularly breezy afternoon...

Definitely nothing to do with the girl standing off to the side of the field, decidedly not in PE uniform. Not even a little bit.

"I did. Alright then, you said you've spent zero time in class before this place?"

"GIVE ME REASON!" he called, double tapping his pin. He sent his falcon that came from it to shred the paper airplane as he stalked over to the girl. "You think you're so zetta funny, do you?"

Link stopped his attempts to fix the chair for a moment.

"Yeah. I was raised by eternal twelve-year-olds and a Tree spirit. My friend Saria taught me how to read and to write my name, and counting and adding basic stuff."

He gave a slight shrug. "Then, when I was still younger than Saria, the whole Ganondorf thing happened and I got sealed away for a seven year nap, had to fight a bunch of evil, but before I could fight Ganondorf himself--I ended up here."

Another shrug and Link rubbed the back of his neck. "So, yeah, no time for school, and before that, it didn't exist."

Yes, even though you two look the same age, this guy is eleven at most.

He nodded, taking that all in stride. "Alright then, add this to your schedule. On hour a day here. You and me. We'll multiply what you already know and catch you up to the rest of the zeroes in no time. Starting with the basics." He grabbed a can of spray paint, shook it up, then tossed it to him. "Find your beauty."

Link caught the can, but, had no idea what it was for.

"Er, sorry...what?"

To lie or not to lie? That was the (hastily answered) question.

"I don't." Not lying, though she didn't seem particularly apologetic, either. If she realized he was a teacher (rather than... what? a particularly zealous track coach?), she was giving no indication thereof.

Anyway, there were more interesting things to discuss.

"That was a nice trick, with the falcon. Your familiar?"

He grinned and picked up his own can, hot pink, and shook it up. He sprayed 1 + 1 on the wall, then an = sign.

"Can you fill in the blanks?" he asked, stepping out of the way with a smirk.

"This is gym class, questions should be restricted to gym and math topics. Now drop and give me twenty!"

Oh. It was paint.

Link was slightly wary around this particular professor, given his weird moods and rantings during PE and Math, but, he still went ahead and made a "2" with the spray-paint.

He nodded. "Not half bad. Let's see this then." He spray painted a 45 + 72 = and then stepped back. "Let's see it."

Link tilted his head for a few seconds before spraying a careful "117".

"So, seems like you can add well enough, not bad for someone with negative schooling. Let's try this."

He swapped colours and sprayed 110 - 75 = and then stepped back again.

Math had real world applications, even in the Forest.

Link thought and then wrote "35".

"Not half bad. Speaking of half..."

His next painting, in a third colour was 46 ÷ 2 =.

Once again he stepped back.

Dividing rations for the winter, was the first thing that came to Link's mind. Although, dividing that many of anything between just two people would have been unheard of.

So far the most challenging part of this was getting the spray-paint to cooperate.

Link wrote a careful "23".

He actually seemed proud as he nodded and grabbed a fourth color. "25 X 4 =" he asked as he wrote it, dancing back after. This kid never got to school before? What a factorial waste.

If things had been slightly different, and his parents hadn't died in the Hyrule's Civil War, Link likely would have had a tutor at the very least.

(Saria hadn't done too bad, truth be told, despite his less than stellar spelling and reading skills. But, there were real world applications for math, even in a society of Fairy Children, while books were not something that they had access to. )

He studied the problem for a moment and mentally pictured the problem in groups of Deku seeds. Then, he wrote "100" with a little more confidence.
