May Event and Intro Log

DAWN OF THE FIRST DAY

May I Have This Dance?

Though Diatu Magicademy has its share of social events, few capture the attention of the student body quite like the Twilight Ball -- that magical once-a-year dance that crosses the change of day into night and is given over entirely to the dance itself. The focus is not on political visitors, rival schools, local government, or hitting up alumni for money; it is entirely about the pleasure that comes from accompanying a charming and attractive person onto the dance floor and cutting the proverbial rug.

It is entirely possible the Twilight Ball is beloved because the general student body is aggressively amorous, but no one admits that out loud.

With the dance on the horizon, the mission of the day becomes finding a partner -- or asking the prettiest or nicest or most tsundere to the ball before anyone else does. The Sundered are particularly popular by virtue of being new, so students may find themselves fending off invitations or even crowds of people interested in being seen on their arms. Even the younger Sundered have a few people in their age group who'd like to pretend they're just as adult as the older students.

To avoid the mob, one strategy is to find someone else in dire straits and agree to be their date, thus giving both of you protection now and then. Another, stranger, vastly more unorthodox strategy is to actually ask someone out legitimately... if you've got the guts.

(The third strategy is to go with Headmaster Birony, who has been occasionally heard to bemoan loudly and publicly that she has nobody, HINT HINT. But who could possibly be THAT desperate?)

Love Is In The Water

Love potions are absolutely, positively, one hundred percent forbidden, on the grounds they tread far too close to the supremely black Curriculum of Dictation. This ultimate and unforgiving ban is every bit as effective as Anastara's rules limiting the speed of carts in the street to a horse's walk.

So, yes, there's love potion in the water. Someone spilled an entire bucket in the river. These things happen. Luckily, as diluted as it is, the potion doesn't reach the levels of obsessive compulsion that the worst of them can; a person drinking a unfortunate draught instead simply finds themselves attracted in a weird and sharp sort of way to the first person they lay their eyes on, for a period of about thirty minutes.

Diatu Magicademy is an inclusive and progressive institution, and consequently these potions affect and can target all manner of beings, from ducks and wolf-shifters to robots and dragons. They are pretty convenient about failing to bring about really skeevy pairings, though, so don't worry about being Hot For Professor.

Special Delivery (aka the Least Embarrassing Prompt, which is a sad state of affairs)

A quick, easy, profitable way to make some money this time of year is by delivering messages, packages, parcels, and treats to students who've caught the eye of another. Whether anonymous or gloriously identified, small token of esteem or bristling bundles of roses and chocolates, the population of the Magicademy takes particular delight in letting others know their feelings. Not always positive feelings, either -- glitter-bomb rejections have only recently begun to diminish in popularity, being replaced by Pie-To-The-Face spells.

An enterprising student who adds their own spin to this hallowed ceremony of delivery can make bank; singing and performance are popular ways to enhance a message among Valhudor students, and a recent trend finds quartets delivering acapella harmonies to the recipients of love notes. But simple note hauling can still be worth your while... so long as you don't find yourself delivering a creepy confession from a weirdo to one of your dear friends. What are the odds of that happening, though?

Research On the Sundered

With the arrival of the Sundered come those wizards engaged in research on their presence here, now set to investigate what brought them here and how to get them home. All newly-arrived Sundered students are asked to meet with representatives of the research team, to introduce themselves and relate what they will of their homes. In addition, the team requests samples of blood, hair, and skin -- carefully magically collected, and the researchers will sign in the presence of the Sundered a Glyphed contract that forbids them from using the samples for a purpose they know will be harmful. (They quite understand your reasons to be suspicious of this collection! And they will not compel anyone who refuses even given these conditions.)

This month, however, the research team informs its applicants that there is no magic being performed. Instead, they ask you to participate in partnered interviews, in which two Sundered compare their worlds and ask each other questions while the researchers take notes. They explain that they wish to find commonalities and differences between worlds, in the hopes that this will help them identify a larger pattern in how the Sundered were brought here.

How is this bad enough to merit earning a reward this month? As it happens, the researchers who sit with the pair have an Intimation Crystal, which shines red every time someone speaks to deceive in its presence.
Lie or omit information or cover with half-truths and the interviewer will ask you to go back and try again -- and they encourage you to speak on everything you can. You might end up venturing into dark or unpleasant territory in these interviews...

DAWN OF THE SECOND DAY

Welp, This Happened

A quiet weekend morning is abruptly quiet no longer.

With a tumultuous shuddering and an eerie, whistling roar, the first tendril of a far mightier being surges out of a wall on campus, venturing into the cloud-shadowed outdoors for the first time in its existence in this plane. Then, like a cloak shrugged off, the outbuilding it emerged from rises up only to crash to the ground as the Sundered creature rises up to claim it glory.

It is a nightmare, a horror. A terrible, indescribable thing as large as a small building —a shapeless agglutination of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of light. For some inexplicable reason, it is colored in bands of purple, black, and gold, and several parts of it sprout white feathers.

    That's the bad news.

The bad news is that this existential threat to reality does not go unnoticed, nor unchallenged. Mere moment after the Sundered creature makes it presence known, a cold wind begins to blow. The temperature abruptly drops thirty degrees, leaving those around in a clammy and miserable chill that feels like they've passed their whole body through one of the ghosts of Makerion Keep. This estimation is not too far wrong, for the pale off-white dragon that emerges from the clouds above is translucent and ethereal, save for the shining eyes of coldest blue that fix on the beast like pinpoints of fire.

What a ghost dragon is doing here is anyone's guess, but when it opens its jaw to unleash a withering cone of necrotic energy at the Sundered creature, it demonstrates plainly that it will not brook this interloper on its domain.

In other words, Diatu Magicademy is now home to a kaiju fight. That's the bad news.

The BAD news is that both these creatures are, by their very nature, incredibly resistant to magic. So even as the professors spill out and split duties of getting students to safety and fending them off, the two beasts barely notice the arcane energy flashing through the air as they begin vigorously brawling.

Thank goodness this is a weekend, or else you'd all have some serious trouble getting to class on time.

[Why is this prompt first? Because it offers the most leeway - and allows it to be before everything!

Webby has been told that the dance requires formal attire, and she... has no idea what that means, aside from 'dress fancy'. So she's out in the market place, trying to figure it out. She certainly looks like she could use some help, though.
]

Ummm... is this formal? ... What's with all the lace? I can't hide a knife in all that.

May I Have This Dance?

[Eventually a decision had been made, and Webby quietly enters the room with her dress and even a temporarily hair style change, blinking a lot as she takes in the sights. All the talk and all the hype, and it's... literally just people dancing? That's it? She doesn't want to be rude and say it's a let down, but...]

I hope there's at least snacks.

[With a shrug, she begins walking around. oblivious to how her pretty dress is going to affect certain ducklings.]

Research On The Sundered

[Webby loves talking about her world, and learning about others! This could be fun! She sits in a chair, her legs dangling and kicking about, eager to begin.]

What do you want to know first? Or should I go first? You can go first if you want!

Welp, This Happened

[... That sure is two giant monsters fighting on campus. Webby stares out a window, slack-jawed...]

... THIS IS AMAZING! What ARE they? What kind of powers are those? I gotta find out! Oh, oh, maybe I can help take them down! Or grab a scale to study - do they have scales? I GOTTA GO!

[Please stop this child before she runs off and tries to get closer to the DANGEROUS BATTLEFIELD.]

That is why you hide a stiletto in all that lace, dear. [Though it is Yotsuyu's cultured tones cutting across the market stall, she sounds far more amused than derisive, especially to judge by the smile on her face.]

I take it you are planning to attend the dance? Wise of you to want to go armed. Shall we see what looks good on you and can also hide weaponry?

[Yeah...trust her to know...] Though your feathers are a neutral color, I imagine you could pull off...just about anything!

🌟 May I Have This Dance?

[ yugi has a boyfriend, but that tidbit of information isn’t something that’s well known. in fact, the only other person that knows about his relationship with kaiba is atem! why, well, yugi knows that kaiba likes keeping his business to himself, and while they’re in a different dimension (???) he’s not going to overstep any boundaries he may or may not have. that’s kind of why he seems nervous about the dance. should he ask? he should, right, because they’re dating! b- but… hnnnng. w- what do?! ]

[ if he’s looking antsy it’s because he’s one thousand percent antsy. he’s been approached often enough that he’s feeling uncomfortable, so right now he’s deep in thought, trying to figure out what he should and shouldn’t do, which means approaching him for some casual conversation or a harmless little tap is going to startle him. ]

H- Huh, oh, uh, …hi! Excited for the, ah, d- dance? I know I… might be… m- maybe…

🌟 Research on the Sundered.

[ he's still doing the research tasks asked of him for the benefit of the school and the sundered, and while they're usually a little off-putting this one ( surprisingly! ) doesn't seem so bad. yugi is sitting alongside the researcher at a table and waiting for another student ( you, perhaps! ) to join them, so the questions can start. ]

Hey! it doesn't seem like this is, ah, so bad this time, so why not help out?

🌟 Whelp! This happened.

[ yugi wants to S C R E A M. he knew this was going to end poorly. he had been there with lena when those students summoned this stupid thing, but, the kicker, they’d cast a spell on the two of them to prevent them from spilling the beans. he’s pulled at his hair enough that his head hurts, which isn’t helping him think up a solution, and that in and of itself is driving him mad. ] Come on, Yugi, t- think. You… this is your fault… so come on! [ but beating himself up doesn’t seem to be working either, so- ]

Huh? [ as soon as the ethereal dragon appears yugi can’t help but gape. holy shit. ] Yes! [ incoming savior! he smiles, watching in awe as it opens its maw to spew its necrotic magic and… oh. oh. ][ well this isn’t good. ]

We need to do something. And quick! [ someone is going to get hurt o- or something is going to get destroyed. fff. he throws his dice and prays to the dice gods and – aha! scoring three three ???s a pegasus steps out and yugi immediately climbs aboard, looking around for another person. ] Magic doesn’t seem to do anything to it, but maybe we don’t really need magic. Let’s see if we can trap it.

🌟 Wildcard.

Research on the Sundered

[Well, she has finally caved, and it is only the whims of Fate that have Yotsuyu doing so when there is no real risk. She is quite uncertain about all of it, nonetheless, and she glares at the researcher and their crystal that will unveil all if she gets cagey with her information.

But she doesn't back down. It does not prevent her from prickling, however.
]

Oh, very well, ask your questions!

Well, This Happened

[And here Yotsuyu is, without access to eikon-summoning. She hadn't ever thought she'd want to call Tsukuyomi again, but even she can be wrong, such as these things go. She is even paler than normal, and her yellow eyes are quite wide as she stares in horror at the purple, feather-bristling thing. The dragon may be ghostly, but it is, at least, within her philosophy, as they say.]

May I have this dance?

Having quickly grown tired of being pestered by people looking for dates- most of whom he'd barely spoken to and about a quarter of which he couldn't even recall having seen before- Lea had decided that there was only one way to put the attempts to rest once and for all; namely find a date. He briefly considered asking Isa- asking Xion might look a bit weird, and she probably wouldn't enjoy the party anyway-, but he wasn't sure if going with one of his best friends would stop the truly determined date seekers. And there weren't really any other students he was interested in going with.

Luckily, there seemed to be another option; he'd overheard someone mention that the Headmaster had no one to go with and seemed rather sad about it. Not only did she seem like a reasonably fun person, but he figured that going with the Headmaster would forestall any more attempts to ask him out on a date (at least this time around, and potentially in the future too). Besides, given the whole teacher/student thing, going with her would likely mean that attempts at romance would be kept to a minimum. Or so he hoped at least.

The trick would be finding her to ask her, though. If push came to shove, he supposed he could leave a note on her desk or something, but that seemed kinda impersonal. Thus he set out looking for her. Of course it was entirely possible- and in fact likely- that he'd run into other people first.

Special Delivery

Though helping Kamala out had netted him a fair amount of money the previous month, it didn't hurt to have a bit more saved up. Thus Lea was among those offering his services to those seeking to send notes or packages to each other. He delivery style was nothing fancy, but his parkour skills did lend themselves to his deliveries arriving at their destination more quickly than most others could boast. So anyone who had a note or package- romantically related on not- that needed to get to its destination post haste was welcome to seek him out.

Research on the Sundered

Lea had only turned up for the researchers this time after he'd heard there would be no magic used on those participating personally. He took a seat across from his assigned partner, then after a somewhat awkward glance at the researcher nearby, spoke up. "Alright... I guess one of us has to start this thing, so... what is it you'd like to know?"

May I Have This Dance?

[One green-color-coded young duck has just been asked to the Twilight Ball by a girl his age, but... Not the one he'd been hoping to go with. Not a fellow Sundered at all, in fact! It turns out the same uniqueness that made him a target for bullies in recent weeks also makes him "exotic" to this student.

Louie does what he does best: Talks his way out, by telling this child about the cool, tall, teen Sundered boy who he heard wanted to ask her out. He has no one specific in mind, because there is no truth to his claim. Still, soon the girl is rushing off to figure out who this mystery boy is, and once she's out of earshot, Louie audibly sighs with relief.]

That was close...

Special Delivery

Delivery!

[One might notice the voice first, or maybe they'd notice the envelope or small package floating through the air towards them. It's a spell he watched Hel do, and has been practicing since, as carrying things is clearly too much effort. But was he going to pass up a way to make money? Of course not.]

...At least, I think this one's yours. It's hard to keep track.

Research on the Sundered

[Louie glances over at the researcher and their weird crystal, then at the other Sundered student sitting with him.]

So, we just ask questions about each other's world? It sounds pretty easy. Have you seen enough of your world to really say much about it, though?

May I Have This Dance?

They're having a what?

[Kamala learns of the dance through a student-made poster, and she's a little conflicted. She wants to go, because it sounds fun, and because she wants to fit in - which she thought she was over and done with! And her parents have let her go to school dances before, but they know the chaperoning faculty and even most of the boys there - because she knows the boys would be her parents' main concern, besides alcohol. But she's not so worried about the latter at a school event...

Kamala drags her hands down her face. Her parents aren't even here to say anything, so why does it matter? Surely this confusion can't have anything to do with how a certain vampire friend keeps crossing her mind, right?]

Ugh, what do I do?

Research on the Sundered

[Kamala sits cross-legged on her chair with a smile. She hasn't been wearing her special cloak much as the weather got warm, but today it's draped over her lap like a blanket.]

Okay, let's start with the kind of place where you grew up. That's a good way to begin, right?

Welp, This Happened

[Kamala had every intention of helping to fight these bizarre creatures off. The staff clearly is struggling to use magic against them, but she wants to give this a try without her magic, anyway. She may not have powers, but she still has what they taught her!

The only problem is that the professors seem determined to keep the students out of the way. Kamala realizes on some level that that's actually quite reassuring, but right now it's just frustrating beyond description.

She struggles through the crowd, yelling futilely:]

[Yugi may calm down slightly--Yotsuyu has no incentive whatsoever for asking him to the dance. Being a tall, dark, forbidding presence, on the other hand, serves to dissuade others from attempting to do so. Plus she's an adult, however youthful her visage, so even though she's a student, it'd be weird to be asked out by someone half her age.]

May I Have This Dance?

Despite overhearing that it was currently Love Month in this world (which reminded her a bit of Valentine's Day, except lasting the entire month), she hadn't planned on going to the dance with anyone in particular. If anything, she thought about asking Sunset if she wanted to go together, like they would at any school dance back home.

When some of the students native to this world started asking her, though, she couldn't help feeling a bit flustered. And, given the bullying from before, she also couldn't help feeling a bit wary about anyone who was asking.

Special Delivery

She paused a moment as she was approached, looking at the delivery person with confusion.

"H-Huh...?" she said after a moment. "I-I'm...sorry. I think this was given to me by mistake."

It didn't even occur to her that someone would want to give her something.

Research on the Sundered

Fluttershy had always been a bit wary about the research, mostly because they always seemed to be something a bit risky or dangerous. But surely an interview with another person couldn't be that bad?

"S-So, um..." she said, unsure. "I-Is...there anything you'd like to know?"

Welp, This Happened

When the monsters first attacked, Fluttershy had been in a bit of a panic...okay, in a lot of a panic. But when some students had been about to get hurt by some of the falling debris, she and Ballet had raced to help them.

Ballet changing to her full whale size certainly helped, and so she and Fluttershy worked on getting other students to safety.

May I Have This Dance?

Lena didn't have very many experiences with dances, other than a few she'd crashed here and there. She wasn't entirely interested, but she couldn't deny the spark of curiosity, either.

She was a bit surprised that people were asking her, though. Then again, she supposed there was something interesting about how different she was.

She never gave a direct answer, though. Because if there was anything she knew how to do, it was be mysterious and aloof.

"We'll see," she replied with a smile.

Special Delivery

Money was probably a thing she needed. And as much as she didn't want to, working seemed to be inevitable.

Making deliveries didn't seem that bad, either. So being careful of the package she held, she made sure to check the name before clearing her throat to announce her presence.

"Here...this is for you."

Research on the Sundered

She wasn't sure how, but Lena found herself roped back into the research department. Luckily, there didn't seem to be anything dangerous going on right now. She could handle this.

"So what's your world like?"

Welp, This Happened

"Oh no oh no oh no oh no....!"

She knew something was going to happen! She'd had a bad feeling ever since that day, when she and Yugi had woken up and none of the other students had been found. The fact that they hadn't been able to talk about it either hadn't helped, but she had hoped...!

But that had been stupid on her part, hoping that everything would be okay. And she found herself rushing to where the monster was, because even if she didn't know what she could do, she had to do something this time!

Though as the second monster appeared, she couldn't help a groan.

"Oh come on! Really?"

"Well we're not actually in it any more," Lea clarified. "And there've been two iterations of it; the original one that Xion and I were in, and the so called 'True' Organization XIII. The latter is the one that's currently operating back home."

"For either version of the Organization though, the ultimate goal was the same," he said. "To provide thirteen living vessels for a creepy old guy named Master Xehanort to put copies of his heart into. He needed thirteen dark hearts as part of his plan to forge the X-Blade and control Kingdom Hearts, and he figured the most reliable way to do that was to get thirteen copies of his own. And once he controlled Kingdom Hearts, he'd have the power to basically do whatever he wanted, which seems to amount to either conquering or ending the world. I'm not sure which, but either way he needs to be stopped."

"The original Organization was made up of what are called Nobodies," he continued. "That's with a capitol 'N', by the way. They're basically the empty shells that are left behind when some one with a strong heart has their heart stolen or otherwise loses it. Only the very strongest Nobodies were able to keep their original form and memories; those are the ones who formed the original Organization. The lesser Nobodies all look like what they are, though; empty, hollow husks. They're usually gray-ish white, and come in different forms; most of them are vaguely humanoid, but everything about them and the way they move just... looks wrong. It's really hard to describe otherwise, but if you're ever unlucky enough to see it, you'll know what I mean. The ones who keep their human forms are less obviously creepy, but it you pay attention you'll notice that there's something a little off about them too that's hard to place."

He paused there, letting her take in that information and ask for any clarification if she wanted. He could go on, and likely would, but the situation with the Oragnizations and Nobodies was Complicated, to say the least. Best to take it in manageable chunks.

Hendrik just happened to walk by the same room that Webby was occupying when he heard a ruckus outside. So he brought his books into the room and saw her at the window exclaiming over something.

He saw large figures moving and the knight hurried over, moving to stand next to her. Blue-green eyes widened at the sight and he shook his head. The beasts were colossal and massive, and he wasn't sure exactly what was going on at the moment.

But one thing was for sure, he wasn't about to let Webbigail go outside without help, aka him.

"I do not believe going outside would be wise." Not without him anyway.
