[Suddenly, from a small distance away, a beam of light hits one of the bullies just as he was casting another spell. The spell backfires, and with a small explosion from the wand causes the student's wand - and clothes - to catch fire.

It's enough of a distraction to the group that the chest falls to the ground, forgotten for the moment in all the chaos.]
